Chapter 542 – The Filthy Bird That Descends Again
Chapter 542 – The Filthy Bird That Descends Again
“Hey, hey, hey, Cyan! Why did you make such a mess again? And this tar is everywhere. You clearly don’t understand the true essence of hunting!”
Sensing that the soul of the tar beast had completely dissipated, Kane returned to the battlefield with Smile. Ignoring the chaotic scene, Kane’s mouth kept running as usual:
“Hunting is an art, understand? A cautious hunter hides in the dense forest, waits for the right moment, strikes like a leopard, delivers a fatal blow, and savors the bloom of blood. That’s what qualifies as proper hunting!”
“Caw, caw! Agree! Caw, caw!”
Perhaps annoyed by the continuous “tar rain” still falling from the clouds, the Magical Raven Vector, who had been obediently quiet under Punk’s orders for some time, quickly chimed in.
“Shut up, Vector!”
Unfortunately, Punk, who had no sense of humor, had no intention of bantering with Kane, nor did he appreciate a chattering raven squawking by his ear. Vector’s complaint earned him a new command: “Three days of silence.”
Punk ignored Smile, who was cautiously following Kane, and the grinning knight, as he headed toward the corpse of the Tar Beast King. For a spellcaster striving to reach the Legendary level, every moment was precious. After defeating this Master-Level magical creature, which posed no real challenge, Punk preferred to quickly begin the “Foul Divination” to locate the third Godchild rather than waste time arguing with the bored Kane.
Without answering Kane’s question, Punk calmly said to the idle knight, “If you have time to chatter, you might as well go mess up that somewhat orderly rubble pile over there. We’ve wasted enough time already. Out of five Godchildren, we’ve only found two so far!”
Speaking with slight displeasure, Punk began dismembering and tearing apart the massive corpse of the Tar Beast King. Unlike the rigid Eye of Judgment, the Bird of Filth always preferred a chaotic setting for its appearances. If simply making the area for the “Foul Divination” more disorderly could earn a little extra “tip” from the Bird of Filth, why not do it?
Seeing that Punk, as usual, had no interest in lightening the mood, Kane, who had been snubbed, pursed his lips and stopped his nonsense. Understanding the importance of time, Kane quickly began seriously wrecking the already devastated battlefield. After all, unlike the previous city, there weren’t many corpses here. To make the arrival of the Bird of Filth’s Projection suitably “chaotic,” they had to churn up the already muddy and rubble-strewn ground once more.
The two Master-Level experts worked quickly. In just a few minutes, the most chaotic summoning site was prepared. The serious mage, now having fully recovered his mana, stood atop the pile of shredded meat from the Tar Beast King’s corpse and began carefully constructing the spell model.Having used “Foul Divination” three times, Punk was now thoroughly familiar with this spell. In just about a second, a concise yet extremely eerie spell model was constructed. As Punk infused it with a massive amount of mana, a filthy aura filled with chaos and evil began to slowly take shape in mid-air.
Finally, accompanied by a nauseatingly chaotic and dirty color that disgusted the soul merely by its existence, it coalesced into the form of a large bird amidst the tar rain. The wandering chaotic energies formed into erratic, randomly blowing whirlwinds, and the sky above the central area of the Tar Swamp was steeped in a gloomy pall of pure “malice.” The drenching rain seemed like the swamp’s weeping and lamentation!
Without a doubt, through the communication and summoning of the spell, a wisp of consciousness from the Foul Bird’s Projection… had descended!
“This is… the Eye of Judgment? I smell the foul stench of the Eye of Judgment. Damn it, why haven’t you rid yourself of that detestable thing yet?”
Just like the last time, the newly descended Foul Bird’s Projection immediately sensed the aura of the Eye of Judgment Contract on Punk. Clearly, the Foul Bird, which embraced chaos as its essence, despised and even loathed all forms of order. The moment it detected the Eye of Judgment Contract, Punk could see the Foul Bird’s previously sinister smile abruptly twist into a grim displeasure.
Soon, the Foul Bird’s Projection, resembling a mass of filthy clouds, redirected its attention to Punk, its summoner. Its blood-red eyes glaring, it shrieked hysterically:
“Ant, it’s you again! Yes! The great Foul Bird remembers you. Chaos always remembers every fellow traveler who embraces it. Have you come to seek my help once more? And… still carrying that repulsive Eye of Judgment Contract?”
Threateningly, it brought its massive cloud-like face closer to Punk. When it mentioned the “Eye of Judgment Contract” again, the Foul Bird’s anthropomorphic avian face even displayed undisguised fury.
Yet, even amidst the Foul Bird’s eerie aura, Punk’s expression remained as unreadable as ever. He did not answer the Foul Bird’s interrogation. The calm mage merely spoke to the Foul Bird’s Projection with composed dignity:
“Honorable Foul Bird, in the name of chaos, I seek your assistance. We need to know the location of the third Godchild. Your boundless power shall serve as my most guiding beacon…”
“Silence, ant!”
True to its unpredictable nature as the Lord of Chaos, the Foul Bird, which had seemed to anticipate Punk’s response just a moment ago, suddenly erupted in fury. Terrifying waves of filthy energy surged and roiled across its form, and the rampant evil aura began to chill the souls of all present.
Soaring into the air once more, the Foul Bird looked down upon Punk and shrilly demanded:
“How dare you ignore my questions? Do you know who I am? I am the omnipotent Lord of Chaos! How dare you speak to me again and again while bearing the Eye of Judgment Contract!”The voice of the Bird of Filth was extremely high-pitched, and this peculiar tone seemed to penetrate directly into the deepest recesses of anyone’s mind without needing any medium. Even protected by fifteen layers of magical defenses, Punk could still feel sharp, rhythmic stabs of pain in his brain as the Bird of Filth roared in fury.
Yet Punk showed no additional reaction. He simply gazed calmly at the consciousness projection of the Bird of Filth hovering mid-air. From beginning to end, after posing the questions he needed answered, Punk did not utter another word.
The Bird of Filth’s rage was undeniably genuine. In the air, its blood-red pupils glared fixedly at Punk for a full minute! However, in the end, this projection of one of only two God-Throne level entities in the Multiverse still refrained from taking any substantive action—or perhaps… it simply lacked the capability to do so.
In fact, after about a minute passed, the Bird of Filth’s attitude abruptly and inexplicably softened. Strangely enough… its calmness felt even more sudden and unnatural than its fury had been.
Flying closer to Punk again, the Bird of Filth—which had just been hysterical—now showed no trace of its earlier temper. With unbelievable speed, it reined in all its madness. Having returned to its eerie, sinister demeanor, the Bird of Filth spoke to Punk in a tone tinged with what seemed like faint resignation:
“Very well… impressive, little one! In accordance with that ancient, damned contract, the great Lord of Chaos shall still provide the answers you seek. And more than that—I, the generous Bird of Filth, have decided to magnanimously offer you some additional ‘intelligence,’ free of grudges. Rejoice, celebrate, and prostrate yourself in gratitude, you pitiful insects who fear nothing only because you know nothing!”
