Chapter 113 – TRUE Route
Chapter 113 – TRUE Route
“What in the world…”
Kenya Mikazuki had cut down every last KOG, taken Road with him, and flown off to the Earthguard Empire.
Kaguya Kurokami and Reina Silfield followed close behind.
All Xuanwu could do was watch as the world stood frozen in place.
On this day, watched by the entire world, Road’s execution had failed.
By the hand of the world’s strongest knight, alone, the fated path had been altered. A NEW route had been born.
…
One month later.
“You’re back, Kenya. This is the last one.”
“Yeah, we’ve taken them all down like this. Man, what a ridiculous order—defeat them without killing a single one.”
“Only you could pull it off. Besides, massacres aren’t allowed, right? But you followed orders to the letter. Good work.”
“Yeah. Well, shall we get started?”
“Yeah, let’s do it.”
…
“Xuanwu, sir! Road’s asking you to watch the imperial broadcast!”
“Got it.”
Ever since that day when Road had returned to the Earthguard Empire with Kenya, the world had regained its peace.
The Earthguard forces scattered across the globe had all withdrawn, bringing the war to an end.
And then, the Earthguard Empire plunged into a sudden civil war.
“So the civil war’s over… meaning Road’s accomplished something.”
Xuanwu had been undecided, because that day, he’d received a message from Road and Kenya asking him to wait one month.
He’d thought it was just a stalling tactic at first, but there was no need for delays. With the world’s strongest knight and its greatest commander on their side, the Earthguard Empire’s forces were still superior.
So what was the reason?
The reason for the civil war?
But from Kenya and the others, there was just one thing: “Please believe in us.”
Xuanwu wasn’t fool enough to take that at face value, but at the same time, they didn’t have the spare forces to launch an invasion.
Besides, he’d overheard those two’s conversation that day.
He couldn’t bring himself to believe that those boys, whose heartfelt cries had struck him to the core, would destroy the world.
So, as far as the World Alliance was concerned, it might be a foolish strategy, but they’d decided to wait.
“Well now, will a demon appear, or a snake…?”
And as the whole world watched, the imperial broadcast began.
“…It’s been a while, people of the Earthguard Empire, and people of the World Alliance. Today, I have a major announcement.”
There stood Road Earthguard, not in his usual ornate attire, but in clothes that looked like everyday casual wear.
And beside him were the world’s strongest knight, Kenya Mikazuki, and two girls.
“Today, the civil war in my empire has come to an end. I’ve dismantled all the nobles who opposed my vision and stripped them of their titles. Now, at last, we can move forward.”
This past month, Road had fought across the Earthguard Empire alongside Kenya.
Their opponents were the nobles who controlled the empire.
Even as emperor, he didn’t hold absolute power; he often clashed with the nobles.
They never rebelled openly, but in terms of military strength, it was a fifty-fifty split between all the nobles and the emperor.
“Dismantling the nobles… What is Road planning?”
Xuanwu and the others stared at the screen.
And then Road made his proclamation in a booming voice.
“As of today, I am dissolving the Earthguard Empire!”
“What!?”
The words spread like wildfire across the world.
“The Earthguard Empire will be dissolved. All colonized nations will be returned and granted independence—of course, we’ll provide assistance as well. The class system will be abolished, all former 2nd Class and lower Earthguard citizens will be freed, and we’ll provide ample compensation. I declare this now.”
“No way… Is he serious…? Road’s going to end the empire?”
But the words that followed were even more unbelievable.
“And my nation will be reborn as a democratic state. I myself will become an ordinary citizen. These clothes are proof of that. However, until the first election, please allow me to act as provisional representative for convenience’s sake. Therefore, as of today, the Earthguard Empire is dissolved. We haven’t decided on a new name yet; it’ll be determined by popular vote. And finally, the most important part… My nation will renounce all military power.”
“Renounce all military power!? Then how will we defend against other countries?”
“On that front, we’ve established a new constitution. It ensures my nation can never possess military power again. It takes precedence over any law, over the representative’s words—over everything—and can only be amended with the approval of two-thirds of the populace.”
Road’s words came one after another, each more astonishing than the last.
Yet they described the foundations of a democratic nation.
Even so, Xuanwu was stunned by the idea of renouncing military power entirely.
“Furthermore, the former Earthguard Empire military will now change its name and become independent. We’ve named it the World Knights Order. The World Knights Order is completely independent from our nation and belongs to no one. It will serve as a deterrent force! There is no superior-subordinate relationship with Earthguard whatsoever. We have contracted with them to maintain our national security. The inaugural captain of the World Knights Order is none other than the Japanese knight, Kenya Mikazuki, who graciously accepted the role. And we’ve appointed Reina Silfield and Kaguya Kurokami as vice-captains.”
“I see… So that’s the plan.”
Xuanwu understood.
The old Earthguard Empire would dissolve that day and renounce its military.
But through their contract with the World Knights Order, they’d be protected from invasions by other nations.
“The World Knights Order has one creed: We will not tolerate domination by force. We will protect world security as the power of justice. That is our purpose and reason for being. We will neither invade nor permit invasions.”
And then Road, almost pleading,
stood and bowed his head—an act unbecoming of an emperor.
“And finally, as provisional national representative, I have a request. My nation wishes to apply for membership in the World Alliance. Please accept us. That’s all.”
The broadcast ended.
“…What in the world…”
Xuanwu and the others gazed at the sky, feeling as if they’d witnessed the impossible.
But there was no time for that.
“Xuanwu, sir! Road Earthguard… He’s heading this way right now! Not with KOGs—just a single helicopter! He wants to meet and talk!”
“Father…”
“Sheesh, give me a break… Fine, let him in.”
“Is that wise!? What if it’s another betrayal?”
“…Without even KOGs? I’ll at least hear him out. Anyone without resolve wouldn’t come. Killing this old fart wouldn’t benefit them anyway.”
And so Xuanwu and the others prepared to receive Road.
…
Two boys and two girls descended from the sky.
“Thank you for accepting us. Xuanwu, I am Road, provisional representative of a nation without a name.”
Xuanwu waited at the helipad.
And he looked at Road, who extended his hand for a shake.
(Is this the same person from a month ago…? Youth is truly something else.)
Seeing those shining eyes fixed on the future, Xuanwu smiled faintly and took his hand.
“Xuanwu, sir. I still haven’t apologized for that day. But I believed you’d understand today.”
Kenya stepped forward.
Stopping Road’s execution that day had been a blow to the World Alliance.
He was apologizing, but also conveying that it hadn’t been a mistake.
“Can you prove that sparing him that day was the right choice?”
“Absolutely!”
The turtle-like man slowly nodded, looking into the two boys’ unwavering eyes.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
…
“So you want to join the World Alliance.”
“Yes. And I’ve come with a proposal today. To cut to the chase: I want the World Alliance to renounce all military power as well.”
The statement stunned every representative.
Only Xuanwu remained calm, responding with a question.
“…And join the World Knights Order?”
“Yes.”
“Isn’t that awfully presumptuous, coming out of nowhere like this? Road.”
Camille pointed it out.
“I said it on the imperial broadcast: My nation has renounced all military power and contracted with the World Knights Order. But that alone changes nothing. So I’m asking all World Alliance nations to join as well. Please.”
Road bowed his head again.
“B-But…”
“I know my past actions make me unworthy of trust. That’s why I’ll prove it with actions. The first step is the dissolution of the Earthguard Empire, as declared on the broadcast. I’ll make you believe—in the whole world. In my… no, in mine and Kenya’s resolve.”
“…”
Camille faltered.
Overwhelmed by the boy’s shining eyes and the straight-from-the-heart passion that made you want to believe.
Seeing that, Xuanwu chuckled softly and asked,
“If we follow this document, the World Knights Order recruits personnel proportional to each nation’s population and acts on requests from the representatives?”
“Yes, exactly. Holding military power breeds chaos—we humans have learned that lesson all too well. A massive force intervening everywhere, the deterrent of the World Knights Order, can create a future without war. That’s what I believe. And its source of power? The world itself, of course. The World Knights Order is the ally of justice. We’ll reach out to citizens suffering from disasters or poverty too.”
“Even on a nation-by-nation basis?”
As Xuanwu and the others reviewed the documents, one man raised his hand.
Japan’s representative, still bearing the scars of war, raised his hand.
“Yes, Isshin Kurokami. Nothing would make me happier than Japan joining.”
Isshin stared at Road.
To him, Earthguard was still an enemy he harbored grudge against.
But.
“Then Japan will join. Of course, we’ll need a vote back home, but we have no government right now anyway. We’ll join for sure. We no longer have the power to maintain our own military.”
They were no longer enemies.
Isshin glanced at Kaguya and Reina, who were present.
Of course, it was a strategy—they’d discussed it beforehand.
His daughters had asked him to.
But it wasn’t sentiment; he truly believed the World Knights Order was essential for Japan’s reconstruction.
It could be dispatched for disasters like a self-defense force.
It required approval from member nations, but it was vital for scarred Japan, and there’d be no opposition.
Truth be told, he’d come to believe.
In his daughter and son, and the boy they believed in.
Then Xuanwu asked,
“What about operating costs for the World Knights Order?”
Xuanwu probed like he was looking for flaws.
But his expression wasn’t malicious.
It was as if he were saying, “Let everyone hear this.”
“As war reparations, my nation will cover them for the next ten years. After that, we’ll ask member nations to contribute proportional to their economic scale.”
“What about corruption or dysfunction?”
“The World Knights Order conducts thorough background checks and rigorous entry exams. Actions are taken only by nationwide popular vote or representatives’ decisions—both straightforward, preventing domination by representatives alone and directly reflecting the people’s will. In essence, every citizen is a knight.”
Xuanwu kept pointing out issues one by one.
And Road answered them all.
Road’s logic was impeccably thought out, and Xuanwu’s face lit up with pleasure.
The exchange helped the representatives understand more deeply.
“One last thing I’d like to hear. Why do this? There’s no benefit to Earthguard.”
Finally, Xuanwu pointed out that these policies were pure loss for Earthguard.
Road connected his words without hesitation.
“For world peace. And so no one else… has to lose what they hold dear.”
His unwavering eyes appealed to everyone’s emotions, proclaiming the gaze of true peace.
(I’ve dealt with countless politicians… but… this type is my absolute weakness.)
Xuanwu was swayed, catching that fervor.
High ability, yet genuinely good.
The very existence he’d always struggled against—yet he couldn’t help but be swept up.
Because in that goodness, he saw his own younger, struggling self from the past.
So Xuanwu smiled.
And decided to bet once more.
On the world’s shape he’d somehow lost sight of, on that youthful energy.
“Understood. The World Alliance will take a vote, so we’ll hold off on an answer. However…”
The turtle-like old man looked at Road with eyes gentle as if gazing at a grandson.
“As for Zhongwu… no, as for me, I want to join.”
“Father!?”
“Ren, you’ve been grinning like an idiot this whole time. You want in on the World Knights Order, right? It’s obvious you were in on it beforehand. Acting all smug like you knew.”
“Wha!? Was it that obvious…?”
“I know you want a world without war. You were probably persuaded by Kaguya ahead of time, huh?”
“…Yes, that’s right. But this system! Someday, true peace—”
“Ren, I’ll resign after this decision. You take over.”
“Huh? Father, why?”
“Kids not even twenty are struggling to bring peace to the world. I can’t keep up with that pace. So Ren, it’s yours now. Try it out—you won’t see the flaws until you do. Think harder, all of you, including Road. That’s the only way to the better path. Struggle, struggle, and move forward. There’s no single right answer, but moving forward is the right answer.”
“Father… Understood. I’ll do my very best to succeed you.”
Xuanwu nodded at Byakuren, who bowed deeply.
Then he turned his gaze to Road.
“And Road.”
“Yes.”
Xuanwu met Road’s sparkling eyes and smiled warmly.
“You’ve got good eyes now. Like a different person from that day.”
“Yes, thanks to him. His burning passion brought me back to life.”
“Yeah, yeah. The whole world heard those words that day. Plenty were moved. Maybe that youthful vigor is the energy that changes the world. I’ll support you as best I can. Your path, once the world’s enemy, will have many obstacles. Earthguard people are hated worldwide; clearing that resentment won’t be easy. It’ll take decades of effort. But you’ll pull it off, surely. You and…”
He looked at the other boy with shining eyes.
“…Kenya-kun.”
Road stood and bowed deeply.
“Until my life ends, I pledge everything to the world. And I promise we’ll achieve it.”
The meeting ended. Former Earthguard’s entry into the World Alliance was approved.
Earthguard dissolved. Nations 1 and 2 joined the World Knights Order.
Both renounced military power, placed themselves under the Order’s protection, and contributed most of their forces to it.
With the superpower that ruled the world on board, nations joined one after another.
Small nations, realizing their militaries were pointless, renounced theirs too.
The World Knights Order provided overwhelming security at a fraction of the cost.
Its defense was the world’s strongest.
No losses, only gains—though they could no longer invade at will.
This meant skirmishes between members and non-members would be one-sided.
And such skirmishes did occur.
But they posed no issue.
One knight embodied that.
The world’s strongest knight intervened in every minor conflict among members, ending them in hours.
His unwavering sword, strength, and virtue gradually moved the hearts of people and leaders worldwide.
Before long, every nation had joined the World Alliance and the World Knights Order.
Non-members lost the point of militaries, backed by their people, and joined one by one.
Literally, everything on this planet joined the same organization, acting under the same ideals.
Toward such a future.
…
Several months later.
“Road? What’d you call me here for out of the blue?”
“This is my final trump card. Watch with me.”
It was a facility for launching something massive.
Kenya had come at Road’s invitation.
“I’m pretty busy, you know.”
“Come on, just this once. It’s my last big policy.”
The World Knights Order was running smoothly, ending conflicts worldwide.
They held thorough debates on potential flashpoints, fostering a world that rejected violent change.
Historical grudges lingered; the Order wasn’t monolithic.
But they upheld an ironclad blood oath against changes by force.
The world could sit at the negotiation table.
“Today, we’re launching a satellite into space. This will enable communication from anywhere in the world. I’ve named it StarNet.”
“StarNet?”
“Yeah. Wars are started by leaders manipulating media. The empire did it too—stirring people up with imperial broadcasts and lies. The people were victims, deprived of truth. So we’ll change that.”
(Could this be…)
“And we’ll distribute this to every citizen worldwide—members and non-members alike.”
What Road held was a KOG device.
Originally Earthguard tech, Road had released it all.
He was launching satellites to make it usable everywhere on the planet.
“With this device, we can hold national referendums. And what I’m calling SNS—services for individual posts—will usher in a new era. When individuals broadcast instead of nations, government propaganda loses meaning. People can think for themselves, gather info themselves, decide their future themselves. Even if they err, let it be by their own will.”
“You’re amazing. Did you come up with all this alone?”
“You sound like you already knew.”
“Heh… Who knows.”
“Weirdo. Oh, launch time. Hope it goes well.”
“It will. It’ll be fine. Definitely.”
And the satellite launched.
This day, the net was born in this world. The SNS service reshaped global values.
All energy once aimed at war turned to hunger, poverty, reconstruction, and technology.
Toward a future where no evil could hide.
“Yes! Success! Oh, right, Kenya—the nation’s name is finally decided!”
“About time! Took long enough.”
“Yeah. The name’s Freedom. The land of liberty, Freedom! Where all races mix and everyone’s equal.”
“Sounds good. Good luck, First Representative of Freedom, Road.”
“Just for this year, though. I’ve got mountains of things I still want to do!”
“You’re better suited for this than war. You look like you’re having a blast.”
“…Yeah. It’s fulfilling. Nothing beats these days.”
Kenya and Road faced each other, smiling.
The two boys who wished for peace unleashed their youthful energy fully.
The world the boys had struggled for, suffered for, and salvaged.
They picked up what everyone ignored and discarded, finding a new path.
The world advanced toward the NEW route those two boys discovered.
A gentle world only they could find.
The one and only TRUE route.
“Thanks for everything, Kenya.”
“Everything?”
Kenya’s face clouded with old foreboding at the words.
“No.”
Road gave a sheepish, bitter smile.
Road thrust out his fist, locking eyes with Kenya.
“From now on too.”
Kenya responded in kind with his fist.
Their fists touched, and they burst into laughter.
…
Years passed… 16 years later.
Long since wars had vanished from the world.
“Here we go! The World Sword Martial Festival finals have begun! The battle to decide this year’s strongest in the World Knights Order!!”
The footage broadcast worldwide.
The annual festival had the world in frenzy, glued to their screens.
A battle using Knight of the Giant to claim the title of world’s strongest.
“Red corner! With silver hair and a handsome face. His female fans number over a billion, they say! The handsome knight, Bell Silfield!! At just 16, the genius knight makes his entrance!!”
KYAAA!! Bell-sama!! Look this way!!
Amid massive cheers from around the world, the silver-haired boy walked out.
Waving to the crowd, smiling.
Dozens of women fainted on the spot.
“Is that guy really my kid? Isn’t he too smooth with girls?”
“He’s definitely your son, Papa. After all… I’ve only ever been with you ♥”
“Let’s try for the next one tonight, then. Mom.”
“Yay! Baseball… no, let’s go for battle royale level!”
“A hundred!?”
The lovey-dovey pair cheered for their son.
And another.
“Blue corner!! The World Knights Order’s idol, active as an entertainer too! A staggering 200 million followers!! But her skills are the real deal!! Mikazuki Nagisa!!”
Nagisa-chaaan!!
Ota-ku fans in happi coats, hachimaki headbands, and glow sticks performed full-throated cheers.
The global idol Mikazuki Nagisa, whose KOG prowess topped the world.
Everyone!! Cheer for me!!
I’ll slice your ♥ in two! Nice to battle you, idol Nagisa!! ♥
Wooooh!!
The ota-gyo intensified.
“Is that really my kid? Who’d she take after to turn out like that?”
“Haha… It’s fine. She definitely came out of Kaguya’s belly.”
“Hey, dear. I want a boy too~. Then I’ll raise him strict, so he can surpass Papa someday.”
“I’ll give it my all!”
“Tonight, then?”
“It’s my night tonight?”
“Come on, you decide, Kenya. Ne? Dear.”
“Uh, wait…”
“Kenya… Which one?”
“Kenya-kun… Which is it?”
The two beautiful matures tempted Kenya.
“A-Alright, whoever wins this match!”
Hearing that, the two moms stood up.
“Bell!! You have to win! If you don’t, special training with Mama!!”
“Nagisa!! Win!! Or special training with Mom till you beat me!!”
The two kids paled.
“Bell, concede? Mom seems dead serious. I really don’t wanna.”
“That’s my line. You don’t know how scary my mom gets when she’s mad. She’s so gentle normally, but in a KOG, she’s a demon.”
And the two boarded their KOGs.
“We absolutely can’t lose!!”
“Match start!!!”
…
“They’ve grown so much… They were so tiny. Time flies. The years blur together lately.”
Two men and women appeared in the stands.
Looking like a loving couple.
“Road, you’re late!! Oh, Sophie. Your belly’s huge now. When’s the due date?”
“In two months. Train her after, okay? I want her in the World Knights Order. Right~? Oh, she kicked!”
“Hey hey. Wasn’t she supposed to succeed me?”
“You’re still in your prime! Mr. Road, 16-time consecutive election winner!”
“How many decades do the people plan to keep me as rep…? I’ll be a grandpa.”
“Haha, they all want you. Byakuren’s working hard too—keep it up. Your sins aren’t forgiven yet.”
“Sigh… I’ll serve the world till I die. What about you? Fine with being the Order’s rep?”
“I’ll step down whenever someone stronger shows up.”
“…Guess neither of us is retiring anytime soon. Oh, it’s ending.”
“It’s over!!! The winner is… Bell!!”
Bell-sama!!!
Screams echoed worldwide; several fainted fans were rushed to medical.
“Bell won, huh. Nagisa’s been slacking for idol stuff lately.”
“I’ll train her till she pukes blood when we get home. That idiot daughter.”
“G-Go easy…”
(Sorry, Nagisa. Can’t stop your mom.)
Kenya stood.
“Gonna head out.”
“Show us what you’ve got after so long, Kenya.”
“Looking forward to it, Kenya-san.”
“Train me hard later, Papa.”
“Nagisa too! Dear!”
“Yeah, they’ve been slacking. Time to get serious.”
Kenya headed to the arena.
“Maintenance is perfect, Kenya-kun. Upgraded the version too—let me collect some data.”
“Tanaka-san… How much more upgrading…?”
“What? It’s only for you anyway. This is my hobby now.”
“Well, I’m happy about it.”
Kenya handed Tanaka the keycard and boarded Takemikazuchi Ver. 9.3.
“The champion Bell will now face off in the next captain selection match!! His opponent, of course! The world’s strongest knight, the world’s hero!! World Knights Order’s inaugural and current captain!! Kenya Mikazuki!!”
Woooooh!!!
Cheers erupted worldwide.
Kenya’s fans’ passionate support enveloped the globe.
KOG had become global entertainment; he remained undefeated in it.
The invincible knight who ended the world war.
The world roared for the knight unbeaten for 16 years straight—no, since arriving in this world.
And a white KOG descended from the sky.
The repeatedly upgraded machine, now called divine, landed in the arena.
“Why do I have to get wrecked by Dad even here…?”
“What’re you saying? Hurry and retire Dad! Show me your all after so long, Bell. Dad’s going all out too!”
“All out? You mean…?”
The white knight swung both swords vigorously, unleashing full-pressure aura worldwide.
“Eek!!”
The white domain enveloped the world; spectators trembled uncontrollably.
Some fans came just to feel that quake; it was his prime pressure.
“Alright, Bell. Ready?”
“T-Totally!!”
The air exploded.
Thunder roared past sound.
Impossible to track, ascending to the peak.
“Dad’s… going all out… *thud*”
“Winner!!! Kenya Mikazuki!! The world’s strongest remains unchanged this year, with overwhelming power!! Kenya Mikazuki is this year’s World Knights Order captain!!!”
Wooooh!!
Amid massive cheers, the World Sword Martial Festival ended.
…
Freedom, Land of Liberty. Mikazuki Residence.
“So! Papa won, so we both get the reward!”
“Be grateful… It’s been a while for three. I won’t let you sleep tonight.”
“No way, there was a rule like that!?”
“Hehe, it was decided from the start. Today’s that day. Even though I’m a thirty-something mom who’s popped out kids… Is that okay?”
“What’re you saying? You’re still super sexy!!”
“Idiot… You always say that. Well, come here?”
Two beauties lounged on the bed.
Arms spread wide, inviting him.
“Then, if you insist… Here I go!!”
Full phantom thief dive!
They laughed at his antics.
Facing each other, blissfully happy.
No rifts, just smiles.
“Seeing you two laugh makes me happiest. Worth the effort.”
“Hehe, right? What Papa wanted was…”
“What you wanted was…”
Kenya nodded.
“Yeah! A world where I can just fool around with you two! So… Here goes!!”
“Eek!” “Hehe…”
Happy laughter echoed through the world.
War was gone; all energy went to human progress.
The unified world eradicated hunger, poverty, pouring in war’s former resources.
A truly gentle world.
An ideal paradise perhaps unattainable.
Yet the boy who never gave up, kept wishing till the end, reached it.
A mere shut-in boy changed the world, came to this one.
With steel will, he crushed all foes, reshaping it to his vision.
Severing fate itself, choosing the impossible route.
That NEW route, the only path to TRUE end.
A world permitted only to the boy who never quit, who picked up everything.
This story ends here.
So finally, one last question for you.
Q: Should you not fall for the game heroine?
A: If you have the resolve to change the world.

The end of the previous chapter “Words of Oath”—I wrote this whole novel just for that scene.
I first met Code Geass in middle school, rewatched it countless times.
Never dreamed I’d write a homage novel back then.
No matter how many times, that ending’s sad, so I made sure my story took a different path.
And with that, it’s complete.
If you can, keep following.
Hoping to meet in the next work.
Finally, thanks to all readers for letting me finish.
