Chapter 108 – Southern Town
Chapter 108 – Southern Town
The next day, I informed Sofia and Sylvie of our future plans, and we decided to head further south.
If we continue this way, we’ll reach the sea. Since we’re aiming for a Town built on the Coastline, we’ll inevitably see the sea. By the way, both Sofia and Sylvie have seen the sea before. I’ve also visited Towns several times since my Reincarnation, so it’s nothing particularly unusual.
Sofia and the others’ goal is to acquire a new weapon… a sword, in preparation for battle.
There’s no doubt that battles will become even more intense in the future. In addition to the Five Great Wars with Demons, there’s a possibility of encountering events like the recapture of the Barx Kingdom. They’re acquiring weapons now, looking ahead to those battles.
The primary reason for asking the blacksmith in the Town on the Southern Continent is that he was a character who existed in the game. Of course, there are also famous blacksmiths who didn’t exist in the game, but my conclusion is that the place we’re visiting now has rumors, and it would be the best choice.
And while the sword is being forged, I will fight Azua… that will complete everything there is to do in the Southern Region.
“We’re going to acquire a weapon, but… do you have anyone in mind?”
Sylvie asked as we continued towards the Town. I replied, “Of course,” and said,
“I haven’t used him myself, but I know someone whose name comes up when I hear various Warrior stories.”
And so, we continued our journey. We shortened the travel time with Magic along the way—and without any particular problems, we steadily advanced towards our destination.
Further south from the Forest of Undine—the place we finally reached was a Town located on a beautiful, windy Coastline.
It’s beautiful.
Sofia let out a comment… Even before my Reincarnation, there were many coastal towns meant for tourism. I’d never been abroad, so I’d only seen such places in books or videos, but this place was beautiful enough to remind me of them.
The town was built by carving into the mountain, with buildings of various colors. Although there are many soldiers for security, the town’s atmosphere somehow calms the heart.
After gazing at it for a while, we entered the town. Its name is Lunarate. This place, a Southern Town with many tourists, has little influence from the Demon Race, and the people walking around enjoy peace. However, there are quite a lot of people, perhaps some are evacuees.
Alright, let’s go to the blacksmith right away.
Yes. Where is it?
They say it’s on the street, so we’ll find it if we walk around.
I answered Sofia and walked ahead, moving forward. After a short while, we found the place, which was quite close to the center of the street.
The location was exactly the same as in the game. I entered with confidence.
Excuse me!
I entered the store. Immediately, I heard the clang-clang of iron being struck.
Welcome!
Along with that sound, a woman in her thirties with glasses and an apron, which suited her very well, appeared at the reception desk.
“Are you looking for swords?”
“Not me, but the two behind me.”
I pointed to Sofia and Sylvie. The woman then nodded and said,
“Understood. However, it might take a while for two people.”
“Is there a waiting list or anything like that?”
I was worried that it might be fully booked due to its reasonable fame, but—
“For now, it’s fine. We can start crafting immediately.”
Lucky me. I immediately made the request. Then the sound of hammering iron stopped, and a man came out from the back.
“Welcome.”
The man, who spoke rather brusquely, was a black-haired man about the same age as the woman, with a slight beard. Come to think of it, even though he was a blacksmith, his name never appeared in the game.
The woman—I think she’s Ganack’s wife, the blacksmith—told the man our request. He nodded and said,
“That’s an easy task… Well then, let me do a little inspection.”
“Inspection?”
Sofia asked again. In response, the woman spoke up.
“Both of you seem to possess a considerable amount of magic power. Furthermore, you are a Spirit Contractor, aren’t you?”
“Uh, yes. That’s right.”
Sofia looked surprised to be found out so easily. And for good reason—
“To provide combat vessels to such individuals, a tailored approach is necessary… I will conduct that inspection. As you can see, I am a magic-user who graduated from the Academia.”
Because of her presence, magic swords can also be created here. Sofia exclaimed, “I see,” impressed, and seemed to understand why I had brought her here.
The two were led to the back. They would inspect their magic power and other attributes, and based on that, the couple would create their combat vessels… As I was wondering what I should do, the man spoke to me.
“I’m Ganack Baront. Who are you?”
“I’m Ruon Madin.”
We shook hands. Immediately after stopping the handshake, Ganack spoke to me.
“From the looks of it, you don’t seem like mere adventurers.”
I nodded slightly at his words, and said,
“There are various reasons… I’m traveling with the silver-haired woman as my attendant.”
“Did you come here to seek a sword?”
“Something like that. I contracted with spirits and visited this place as well.”
“There have been many like you recently.”
Ganack spoke while scratching his head. I asked him a question here.
“Is the Demon King’s Invasion affecting this place too?”
“Oh, of course. The presence of refugees is significant, but more than anything, the arrival of swordsmen like yourselves has also increased.”
As he spoke, he let out a self-deprecating sigh.
“I’m happy that people come here seeking swords after hearing about this place, but when it’s for fighting monsters, I feel a bit conflicted inside.”
That’s understandable. Being busy means the War with Demons is still ongoing.
“Any impact around here?”
“There’s no talk of the Demon Race coming. However, monsters have settled in places like the Coastal Cave a little way from town. Some humans in town are worried about it.”
After saying that much, Ganack suddenly exclaimed, “Oh!” as if remembering something.
“Speaking of which, someone apparently took on a request to subdue the monsters in that cave. I don’t know the details, though.”
“A request, you say?”
I think for a moment. Hmm, there was no place called Coastal Cave in the game. That means it’s a story outside the game’s scope.
“Are you interested?”
Ganack asks. I shrug slightly and say,
“Well, somewhat.”
“That person seems to be looking for comrades, so they might be at the Guild.”
I tell Ganack, “I’ll think about it,” and look around the shop. Just then, Sofia and Sylvie return. According to Ganack’s Wife’s explanation, the investigation into their magic power will take a day, and then it will take more time to create the swords from that.
“Because it’s different from ordinary blacksmithing, the duration varies depending on the materials.”
“What about providing the materials ourselves?”
When I ask, Ganack replies, “That’s fine.”
Since they will be used in the upcoming War with Demons, suitable materials will likely be needed. So, there’s only one answer… and with that, I summon a Storage Box using Summoning Magic. What I take out, while Ganack and Ganack’s Wife watch in surprise, is—
“How about this?”
“…Oh, you have some very interesting things again.”
Ganack says. Ganack’s Wife also looks at it with interest.
What I took out was a special metal from this world. It was called ‘Spirit Steel,’ which possessed anti-demon powers.
