Chapter 227 – End of Southern Invasion

Chapter 227 – End of Southern Invasion

Although there are allies, the basic task remains the same. I continue to unleash magic and destroy monsters. The big difference this time is that I can fight at full strength, and I have support from Sofia and the others.

However, if Alto were to describe this situation, it would be as follows:

Well, it’s like the concept of an army is meaningless now.

That’s fair. But I’m an exception, you see… While thinking that, I intercepted more enemies.

The Demon Lord’s Army’s strategy still seemed to be targeting Sofia and the others, but the Human Side was dealing with it well, and there weren’t many casualties. Furthermore, by explaining about Richard along the way, we were able to coordinate with the monsters he commanded. As a result, we were defeating the enemy at a faster pace than expected.

It looks like a situation where they should retreat, but they’re not.

Sofia said. Indeed, in a situation where they were being so thoroughly beaten, it wouldn’t be strange for them to retreat. However, I would mercilessly pursue them, so the outcome for the Demon Races would be the same either way.

Well, at this rate, we’ll defeat the enemy faster than I thought…

As I muttered that, I spotted more monsters attacking. No, this is…

They’ve split the vanguard into three sections.

Kanan said. As he spoke, I could see hordes of monsters spreading out to the left and right. Had they changed their strategy again?

Lord Ruon, please defeat the monsters charging straight ahead.

Kanan’s instruction. Just as I was about to ask what he would do, another instruction came.

We will stop one side of the enemies advancing on the left and right. Richard’s monsters will handle the other. I’ve already sent a messenger.

Understood.

As I nodded, Kanan gave instructions to the knights and headed to the right. When I shifted my gaze, I saw knights pressing in from behind Kanan, resulting in a collision.

And on the left side were the monsters that Richard commanded. Although their numbers were small, they possessed enough quality to hold the line.

Finally, the central unit… the opponents I would face, and Resveil spread his wings to renew his fighting spirit.

I’ll provide support.

Sofia speaks. Sylvie the Guard and Eina are also ready to agree. Furthermore, there are the Adventurer Faction, led by Phili, and the Knights, led by Balzard.

I somehow feel like I’m in a position to lead… it doesn’t suit me, but I have no choice but to do it.

“The method is the same as before. I’ll use Magic to cause confusion. There will still be Monsters and Demons trying to break through, so defeat them.”

Sofia nods. I say “I’m counting on you” and begin the Incantation. Just before the Demons charged and clashed, I released the Magic.

I used Wind-attribute Advanced Magic “Rune Cyclone,” but… the Magic Power I added was my full strength, and a Wind Blade, which could be called a暴Wind, was unleashed on the Monsters. The whirling winds blew away the Monsters forming an Army from the front lines.

The Demons must have recognized the difference in power – but they still approached. As expected, retreating is not an option. No matter how great the difference in power, they attack.

In response, I performed another Incantation. In the meantime, one Demon reached me.

However, I drew my sword, slashed, and destroyed it. I gave the same fate to the Demons that attacked in succession. Those who tried to slip past were dealt with by Sofia and her group. Their abilities are so high that they are too strong for ordinary Knights to handle, but with the strength of the Adventurer Faction, there were no casualties.

“Now, for the next Magic–“

What I unleashed with my voice was a Lightning Strike. Advanced Lightning Magic “Arc Lightning” – it looks similar to the Intermediate Magic “Lightning,” but it’s a Magic where a direct hit causes the Lightning Strike to explode and affect a wide area.

The Lightning Strike directly hit the Monster at an incredible speed. In an instant, a Flash and the distinctive crackling sound of a Lightning Strike echoed in my ears, and the Lightning Strike diffused, greatly annihilating the enemies.

By the time the Flash disappeared, the front line had completely collapsed. I then unleashed “Rune Cyclone” as a further decisive blow. The Wind Blade attacked the Monsters again, rapidly reducing their numbers.

I looked left and right, wondering whether I should provide backup. Richard seemed to be fine. As for Kanan and the others… it looked like they were in a stalemate.

“The Demon Race are getting closer!”

That was Kuuza’s voice. I looked and, sure enough, the black-clothed Demon Race were approaching us, just as he said. And there were several of them.

“I’ll handle them.”

With those words, I re-gripped my sword and ran. Just as I was about to unleash some Magic, the Demon Race’s speed increased even further. Were they planning to finish me off before I could use Magic? But that, too, was a reckless move.

The Demon Race rapidly closed in and were finally right in front of me. Immediately after, one threw a punch, but I easily dodged it… and, as if in retaliation, I struck the Demon Race with a Sword Strike.

It was a full-power blow. Of course, the Demon Race couldn’t withstand it and was annihilated. The subsequent Demon Race members were also closing in, but they stopped moving the moment I re-positioned my sword.

There were three in total. They seemed to be struggling to attack. In that case, I’ll go to them.

I started running. The Demon Race quickly dispersed, but—I dodged their movements and first fired Resveil to the left. I swung my Greatsword at one of the Demon Race, and before it could react, a Sword Strike exploded. It was annihilated.

Next, I caught a Demon Race trying to run past to my right and unleashed Intermediate Magic “Holy Lance.” The opponent seemed to try to evade it, but the Spears of Light reached the Demon Race faster than it could react, hitting it directly. I successfully defeated it.

At this point, the last one couldn’t move. I looked over and saw the Demon Race retreating with a grim expression.

I mercilessly slashed at it. The opponent reacted, but couldn’t withstand my blow and vanished.

There were still some Monsters left, but… I immediately blew them away with “Rune Cyclone.” Next, I went to assist Sofia and the others. At this point, most of the Monsters were gone, so I gave instructions to my comrades.

“I’m going to assist King Kanan! I’ll be back soon, so wait here!”

After informing them unilaterally, I headed to the right. Kanan and the others were being pushed back slightly, but I supported them with Magic. The Demon Lord’s Army, attacked from the flank, easily lost their cohesion, and the tide quickly turned in favor of Kanan and his group.

“Lord Ruon, my apologies.”

Kanan said, and I shook my head,

“There are still many enemies… Let’s continue with this momentum.”

“Alright.”

After his reply, the Knights annihilated the Monsters. I went to assist the remaining Richard—and continued the battle with them.

—And so we continued fighting, and it ended when the sunset began to appear.

“Good grief, that was the busiest day of my life.”

Alto sat on the ground, muttering those words. Around him were the Adventurer Faction, as well as Sofia, Sylvie, and Kuuza.

Kanan and Balzard were leading the Knights, clearing out the remaining Monsters. Since there were so many, some had scattered, but the Knight said, “It won’t take long.”

“Lord Ruon, you must be tired.”

Sofia approached and spoke. I nodded and said,

“Ah, you too, Sofia.”

“…I didn’t do anything that great.”

“You were fighting on the front lines, weren’t you?”

“Well, compared to Ruon’s performance, everyone else might as well have not fought at all, I suppose.”

Sylvie interjected.

“I’ve heard the reports. You encountered the Western Region, the Northern Region, and even the Demon King, and apparently came here with hardly any rest? How much of a monster are you?”

“…Well, I guess I’m a little sleepy after all that reckless fighting.”

“Just a little sleepy after all that rampage? The Demon Race must be terrified.”

“Maybe.”

“So, what’s next?”

“…I’ll have to talk to King Kanan.”

I sighed. As a result of my efforts to minimize casualties, my existence had become known to the Human Side. I felt I needed to discuss that, among other things.
