Chapter 60: There’s a Village
Chapter 60: There's a Village
Zhai Guangyi hadn’t expected to encounter a Sub-Human in a place like this, and such a weak one at that. Without knowing his identity, Zhai Guangyi didn’t plan to get too involved with him.
Afraid he might be a subordinate of the Demon King, it was better to make a quick escape.
The man on the ground was still reeling from the shock when he saw the child in the sky turning to leave. He quickly shouted out.
“Don’t run! You let my wild boar escape, you have to compensate me! I’ve been squatting in this snow for a whole day, my face is frozen purple. Get down here! How can you be so beastly? Letting someone’s wild boar run off and then flying up into the sky—is that polite?”
Zhai Guangyi listened as the man below cursed his ancestors for eighteen generations, starting from his mother’s generation. His cultural refinement was truly abysmal. But what he said made sense, and Zhai Guangyi couldn’t refute it.
He could only control the Flying Staff, slowly descending until he was in front of the man, hovering in mid-air at eye level.
“So, how do you want me to compensate you?”
Seeing how weak the man was, a simple negotiation was acceptable. After all, Zhai Guangyi had taken a liking to someone else’s wild boar and even tore his hunting net.
The man had accidentally trapped him, but it was because Zhai Guangyi had been using Stealth the whole time and hadn’t revealed himself. This misunderstanding had arisen by chance, and Zhai Guangyi should apologize.
The man saw the child floating in front of him, with delicate features, long ears beside his small face, smooth blue-green hair, and fair, clean skin. Due to the cold, his cheeks had a faint blush, making him look utterly adorable.
He had never seen such a beautiful little girl in this Forest. The childish voice reached his ears, and only then did he snap out of it and respond to Zhai Guangyi.
“O-of course, compensate me with the wild boar!”
“Alright, fine. I’ll help you find it.”
Zhai Guangyi thought that if it were money, he could generate some White Quality Equipment from the System Shop as compensation.
He had previously checked Luke and Mark’s Equipment—most of it was White Quality. Mark’s sword was slightly better, Blue Peak Quality, close to Purple Quality. That meant White Quality Equipment should be exchangeable for some money.
Fortunately, the wild boar hadn’t run far. By using Spirit Magic to communicate with the Elemental Spirits in the air, he could immediately locate it. The faint Elemental Spirits in this environment lacked their own intelligence, but with a little Magic communication, they would respond to Zhai Guangyi’s request and help find the wild boar, as long as the distance wasn’t too great.
“Found it. Follow me.”
“O-okay.”
The man nodded somewhat woodenly and followed closely behind Zhai Guangyi.
“Are you a Forest Elf? I’ve never seen a race like yours before.”
“Isn’t that obvious at a glance?”
Zhai Guangyi didn’t dare claim to be a Primordial Spirit now, to avoid trouble. He noticed that people in this World rarely learned Appraisal Magic. It was already quite difficult for most to accumulate a few dozen Skill Points. They usually used them to learn Skills that ensured survival or provided strong combat abilities, so proficiency in Appraisal Magic was very low.
“Truly worthy of being an Otherworld, with such beautiful races.”
The man muttered softly behind Zhai Guangyi, his face wearing an incredibly bright smile, as if he held great hopes for the future.
“Huh? What did you say?”
“Nothing, I just envy that you can fly. If I could fly, I would leave this forest.”
Zhai Guangyi clearly heard him whisper ‘Otherworld,’ so it was very likely he was also a Transmigrator. Afraid of exposing himself, Zhai Guangyi didn’t dare ask directly. He and Xiong Er had revealed their identities because he knew Xiong Er was Chen Dabai, his good brother from his Previous Life, so he felt at ease.
This kind of person encountered suddenly still needed careful observation. Even if they were fellow Transmigrators, they might not necessarily be trustworthy. Back on Earth, there were plenty of bad people, and there were many examples online of good brothers or sisters being scammed into going to Myanmar to have their kidneys harvested or worse.
“Have you always lived inside this forest?”
In Zhai Guangyi’s impression, the area beyond the northern mountains belonged to the dangerous regions inside the forest. Close to the center of the great Forest, many dangerous Magical Beasts or Demon Humans lived here, along with Giant Dragons.
But this man before him was so weak—how had he survived?
“Yeah, you’re an Adventurer, right? My village isn’t far from here. Once you help me catch the wild boar, I don’t mind inviting you to my home as a guest. I’ll treat you to a pig’s trotter.”
“A village? There’s actually a village in a place like this? But aren’t you worried inviting me so openly without any precautions? Aren’t you afraid I might do something dangerous?”
Zhai Guangyi raised the staff in his hand. With his Spiritual Body of Magic Defense active, even if he just used the staff to strike the man on the head, it could make his skull explode like a watermelon.
“A cute little girl like you, how could you possibly do anything dangerous? Although Forest Elves can’t be judged by appearance when it comes to age, you must still be quite young, right!”
The man rubbed the base of his nose, smiling as he spoke to Zhai Guangyi.
A few veins bulged on Zhai Guangyi’s forehead. Being called a girl was one thing, but being called ‘little’ on top of that—he barely restrained the impulse to turn around and whack the man on the head with his staff.
If it weren’t for the possibility that he might be a fellow Transmigrator, Zhai Guangyi really didn’t want to interact with him any further.
“Haven’t you heard? The prettier the girl, the more dangerous she is. Besides, I’m male.”
“Ah? You’re male? Although the books say Forest Elves tend to have androgynous looks, I didn’t expect it to be like this… sigh.”
He suddenly let out an inexplicable sigh, as if Zhai Guangyi being male greatly disappointed him. Zhai Guangyi ignored him after that. This kind of person made him uncomfortable from the very first encounter—his gaze felt off.
The Elemental Spirit informed Zhai Guangyi that the wild boar was nearby. Following its guidance, he used Wind Control to part a thicket. There, he saw the massive wild boar lying motionless in the snow.
Its leg seemed injured, likely from a trap, and it was now resting hidden in the thicket. Zhai Guangyi pointed in the direction of the boar.
The man responded by giving Zhai Guangyi an OK gesture. He raised the bow from his back, drew the string, and in a silent motion, an arrow shot through the thicket, striking the boar directly in the rear.
The wild boar was also flung into the air by the force of the arrow, letting out a piercing shriek. It then thrashed and rolled on the ground before gradually lying still, motionless.
“Haha, finally some meat to eat! How about it, want to come to my village for a visit?”
Faced with the invitation from the man carrying the wild boar, Zhai Guangyi stared at the thick, meaty carcass and swallowed hard. He reluctantly agreed—not because he craved the meat, but simply to find out whether the man had also undergone Transmigration from Earth.
