Chapter 148: BOSS Phase Three
Chapter 148: BOSS Phase Three
Struck by the blade first, then the swing follows. What a disgusting technique—utterly impossible to dodge. Kamiyu grew tense. Unlike the previous Dimensional Slash, which had a wind-up that could be observed, this Reverse Causality attack offered no tells. The only option was to rely on her armor to withstand it.
Moreover, Dark Gold Tier remained Dark Gold Tier. Even with armor boasting triple attributes, it couldn’t withstand a second hit. A single strike nearly shattered its durability.
If not for her Construction Sage Talent, which provided an abundance of armor, she would likely have been slain by this bizarre Reverse Causality Sword wielded by “Lei Yao.”
At that moment, “Lei Yao”—currently being piloted by Mephisto from the ground—cast an appreciative glance at Kamiyu, who remained steadfastly airborne.
“Human, how did you withstand the attacks of this sword? Few humans have ever survived a single strike from it,” Mephisto mused, a nostalgic expression crossing his face.
“Care to guess?” Kamiyu had no intention of waiting idly. She immediately fired a Super-Phase Energy Cannon at him.
To her surprise, Mephisto neither dodged nor evaded, taking the hit head-on.
Kamiyu was struck in the back by the blade, followed by its swing.
Sent flying forward, Kamiyu widened her eyes. “Well, well, trying to trade blows with me? How bold!”
The moment her Super-Phase Energy Cannon struck Lei Yao, she saw several segments vanish from his health bar.
“So that’s it,” Kamiyu analyzed seriously. “Even with the Demon King piloting him, the body remains Lei Yao’s own. The Demon King has merely unlocked the full power of the Dark Gold Sword Doombringer, enhancing the sword’s attack power and completing its skills.”
“In that case, his defense power remains human-level, and his health hasn’t changed. That means my attacks are effective.”
“The battle of attrition begins.”
Kamiyu descended to the ground. With a slight flutter of her wings, she lifted off a few dozen centimeters and flew toward Mephisto, raising the Barrett Cannon with both hands.
Super-Phase Energy Cannon.
Aimed directly at Mephisto’s forehead.
The seven-in-one energy beam engulfed Mephisto in a blinding platinum light.
“Come on, come on!” Kamiyu roared, her voice strained as if possessed by a soaring bird.
The Crimson Earth beneath her path melted into a semicircular deep pit, as if carved by a tunnel boring machine.
The intense heat from the Super-Phase Energy Cannon obliterated a small hill behind Mephisto, reducing it to fragments.
Even the Sanctuary dozens of kilometers away observed the spectacle.
“What immense power,” remarked one player.
“Report: The Sanctuary sustained damage from that energy beam. Many materials were dropped.”
“Quick, send word to the Main City! Tell her not to fire horizontally—she nearly grazed the Sanctuary just now. Even the walls have started burning,” said the Master of the Sanctuary, a Beta Tester.
Kamiyu noticed something odd: Mephisto seemed utterly unconcerned with “Lei Yao’s” health bar or armor. He equipped multiple pieces at once, only for them to be destroyed by her attacks, depleting his health bar. Yet he immediately re-equipped more, showing no regard for pacing.
The more unusual something is, the more caution it warrants, she thought.
A black sword aura materialized beside Kamiyu, sweeping her away like a storm.
Water-Calling Sword Style: Reverse Causality.
Kamiyu was sent flying once again.
All her armor shattered anew.
“Fortunately, I had earlier stuffed the most precious False Death Garment into my backpack, using some expendable standard-issue armor to withstand these terrifying attacks, otherwise I’d be crying my eyes out from the loss.”
She had kept Ancestral Spirit’s Blessing. During the previous fights, she had always seized opportunities to trigger invincibility, which was how she managed to hold on.
Kamiyu decided to probe: “Aren’t you afraid Lei Yao will die if you fight like this?”
“Afraid? I’ve never been afraid. It’s just a human life. I don’t care.” From start to finish, Mephisto had treated Lei Yao as nothing more than a chess piece.
“I see. I’ve already thought of a way to kill your chess piece. Would that make you afraid?” Kamiyu repeated, her purpose in saying this was to mess with Mephisto’s mindset and find a loophole in his words.
“I find you quite interesting. I already said I’m not afraid. If Lei Yao dies, there will be another Lei Yao. Humanity is never short of ambitious schemers. Just like those people up in your Main City, I can easily prop up another batch whenever I want.” Mephisto said.
Those surrender faction members on the Main City walls couldn’t grasp the situation. They didn’t know Lei Yao was currently possessed by Mephisto and thought Lei Yao intended to reemploy them.
The few surrender faction members who had been jumping around the most eagerly earlier now raised their hands high and leaped up, as if saying, “Pick me, pick me! I am your most loyal lackey, Lord Lei Yao!”
“With that trash? Your standards aren’t picky at all.” Kamiyu mocked.
“You could do it too. I see you have plenty of ambition yourself. Don’t follow that kid Inarius; he’s unreliable.” Mephisto, seeing through everything, spoke as if from experience.
“How do you know?” Kamiyu neither refused nor accepted, messing with someone’s mind, especially regarding emotions, was most effective this way—by not stating a position, leaving them to guess.
“Heh heh heh heh heh.” Mephisto wore a joyful expression, laughing without speaking.
Kamiyu wasn’t just talking nonsense; she was stalling for Ancestral Spirit’s Blessing’s invincibility window. After remaining still for 2 seconds, she would gain 10 seconds of invincibility.
“An opportunity.” Kamiyu pulled the trigger.
Hammer of the Thunder God.
It struck Mephisto again, melting away the last piece of armor. This time, it reduced his health to within the last bar.
People on the city wall, seeing the health bar enter the last bar for the first time, exclaimed excitedly: “We have hope!”
“This time we can really win!”
“Long live the Lady Saintess!”
The surrender faction members all turned ashen-faced, not knowing what to say. Some clever ones quickly logged off to avoid the impending reckoning.
As for the veteran players, especially those like Li Changde, their expressions were grave.
Someone beside him asked, puzzled: “The health bar is already within the last bar, victory is right before our eyes. What are you still worried about?”
Li Changde analyzed seriously: “Even though Lei Yao has lost all his armor now, he still has Health Restoration Potions and Anti-Electricity Potions he can use. Ever since he started using that strange technique, he stopped defending, stopped drinking potions, and stopped using the Dark Gold Longsword for lifesteal. There must be a scheme behind this.”
Indeed, the veteran players weren’t fools, and neither was Kamiyu. That’s why she had long since planted her feet firmly, entering Ancestral Spirit’s Blessing’s invincibility window.
Mephisto revealed a triumphant smile and said: “It’s here. Finally, the health bar is reduced to within the last bar.”
He gave a light flick of his sword-wielding right hand.
Water-Calling Sword Style, Backlash.
All the Armor on Kamiyu’s body began to crumble, the Ancestral Spirit’s Blessing shattered directly into Blue Particles.
“No way, going this far? You even forced out the Dungeon Boss’s third form—are you Frieza?” Kamiyu exclaimed in shock.
Water-Calling Sword Style, Sever Reality.
A black whirlwind sword energy materialized out of thin air.
But in the next instant, a blood-soaked man in Black Armor descended from the sky.
“You will not harm my sister.”
