Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our services, including our membership system and third-party integrations with Patreon, Ko-fi, and our image hosting providers. By using this website, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the site.

Information We Collect

Account Data

When you register for an account on our website, we collect:

  • Username
  • Email address
  • Password (stored in encrypted form)

User-Generated Content (Images)

When you upload images to our website (such as profile pictures, comments, or post attachments), the image files are collected and processed. Images attached to comments are not stored on our own servers; they are sent to third-party image hosting providers as described below. If you upload images, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website may be able to download and extract location data from images displayed on the website.

Comments and Ratings

When you post a comment or review, we store the content of your comment, the page it was posted on, your user account association, and the date and time. If you rate a novel, we store that rating against your account. If you edit a comment within the permitted editing window, we store the fact that it was edited and the time of the edit. If you like a comment, we store that association with your account.

Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our website, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Referring URLs
  • Pages viewed and time spent on pages
  • Date and time of visits

Third-Party Services

Image Hosting

Images you attach to comments are hosted by third-party image hosting providers rather than on our own servers. Depending on our configuration at the time of upload, we may use any of the following:

Please note the following about how this works:

  • Your image is transmitted by us, not by your browser. When you attach an image, the file is uploaded to our server and forwarded from there to the image host. This means the image host does not receive your IP address at the point of upload.
  • A second copy may be stored with a different provider. To keep images from disappearing when a provider removes or expires a file, we may store a duplicate copy of the same image with a second provider from the list above. Both copies are subject to that provider’s own policies.
  • Viewing an image contacts the host directly. When you view a page containing an uploaded image, your browser requests that image from the third-party host. That host may therefore receive your IP address, browser information, and the time of the request. We instruct browsers not to send the originating page address, but the request itself cannot be avoided.
  • Uploaded images are publicly accessible. Anyone who has or discovers the direct link to an image can view it, whether or not they have an account here and whether or not the comment it was attached to is still visible.

By uploading images, you acknowledge and consent to this third-party hosting. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies linked above.

Email Notifications

If someone replies to a comment you posted, we may send a notification email to the address associated with your account, or to the address you supplied when commenting. This email contains the name of the person who replied, an excerpt of their reply, and a link to it. Registered users can turn these notifications off at any time from their dashboard or account profile, or by using the unsubscribe link included in the email.

Patreon Integration

We use the Patreon API to verify your patronage status and provide corresponding benefits on our website. When you connect your Patreon account, we receive:

  • Your Patreon user ID
  • Email address associated with your Patreon account
  • Current pledge/tier status

This data is used to grant you the appropriate membership tier and benefits based on your Patreon subscription. A record of your subscription may be stored for verification purposes. We do not access your payment information directly—all payment processing is handled by Patreon. For more information, please review Patreon’s Privacy Policy.

Ko-fi Integration

We use the Ko-fi API to process donations and purchases. When you make a purchase through Ko-fi, we receive:

  • Your Ko-fi username or display name
  • Email address associated with your Ko-fi account
  • Transaction details (amount, date, message if provided)

This information is used to verify your purchase and provide the corresponding benefits. Payment processing is handled entirely by Ko-fi; we do not receive or store your payment card details. For more information, please review Ko-fi’s Privacy Policy.

Your Transaction History

You may have access to a transaction history page showing your purchases made through Ko-fi and Patreon. This information is provided for your reference and record-keeping.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Verify purchases and provide corresponding benefits
  • Verify and maintain your membership status via Patreon
  • Provide access to content based on your membership tier
  • Host and display user-uploaded images
  • Notify you when someone replies to your comment, unless you have opted out
  • Send important account notifications
  • Respond to inquiries and support requests
  • Improve our website and services
  • Prevent fraud and enforce our terms of service

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:

  • Keep you logged into your account
  • Remember your preferences and settings
  • Analyze website traffic and usage patterns
  • Provide security features

You can control cookies through your browser settings. However, disabling cookies may affect website functionality, particularly login and membership features.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Images attached to comments are retained by the third-party image hosting providers described above, on their own terms and for their own retention periods. Where a provider supports it, we ask that provider to remove an image when the comment it belonged to is permanently deleted. Some providers do not offer any way to remove an image once uploaded; in those cases the file may remain accessible on that provider’s servers indefinitely, even after the comment is gone from our site.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for processing where consent is the legal basis
  • Object: Object to certain types of processing

Please note that our ability to delete images you have uploaded is limited by what each image hosting provider allows. We will remove the image from our site and request its deletion from any provider that supports removal, but we cannot guarantee deletion of files held by a provider that offers no removal mechanism. If this matters to you, please do not upload images you may later want withdrawn.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information provided below.

Children’s Privacy

Our website is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using our website, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
