Chapter 118 – The Mysterious Figure Appears Frequently
In the days that followed, Ye Kuang continued his usual routine—setting aside increasingly profound textbooks to delve into the mysteries of the Ninth Palm.
“The heart’s strength supreme brings unparalleled ferocity; a palm strike like thunder can unleash an Earth-Shattering Shock… Ambition fuels ascent to the heavens, while its absence leaves one like a hidden dragon in the abyss.”
It must be noted that the Ninth Palm served as a critical dividing line. If the first five palms represented initial mastery, where countless others might surpass him, Ye Kuang was now far from easily challenged. With one hundred and thirty years of cultivated power, he had stepped into the ranks of enlightened masters. Once these elements synergized, his martial prowess became truly unfathomable.
This period of tranquility persisted uneventfully until one night half a month later, when Ye Kuang abruptly received an unexpected visitor.
A breeze brushed his forehead, occasionally carrying a soft melody from a Xiao. At first, the tune seemed gentle and soothing, but to assume it was merely that would be a grave mistake. Suddenly, the music swelled with dramatic shifts, evoking an aura of ambush from all sides.
In that instant, Ye Kuang’s eyes sharpened with alarm. He burst out of the room, leaving behind Gao Qing and the other two in the dormitory exchanging bewildered glances, along with a textbook rustling restlessly in the wind.
Following the sound of the Xiao, he traced it to a small grove, where a Mysterious Figure leaned against a stone stool.
“I thought you wouldn’t dare come?”
“Friend, what business brings you here so late at night?”
The Mysterious Figure laughed heartily. “Ten days ago, I defeated a C-Level Ability User in three moves. Five days ago, I made a guild leader submit in three moves. For you, three moves will suffice as well.”
With that, he played a mournful tune on his Xiao, exuding the loneliness of a master in his prime, yet his words were deeply stirring.
Ye Kuang asked, “Were you referring to Yuan Xiaohe and Tian Ming?”
“Oh…” The Xiao fell silent as the Mysterious Figure seemed to ponder briefly before replying, “So their names are Yuan Xiaohe and Tian Ming… Heh, thank you for clarifying.”
Ye Kuang said, “I’ve heard about those two. If you taught them another lesson, I owe you my thanks. Since there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”
No sooner had he spoken than he turned abruptly—he had never held any regard for those who hid their true faces. As the saying goes: Those who skulk in shadows are either traitors or thieves.
“Whoo… whoo… whooo…”
But just then, a melodious yet piercing Xiao melody surged from behind, sharpening the senses before escalating into a lethal force.
Crack!
Several branches snapped, blocking Ye Kuang’s path.
“Your Excellency, are you here to pick a fight?”
“If you interpret it that way, it’s not entirely incorrect.”
“I doubt you have the capability to obstruct me!”
As Ye Kuang’s words faded, he tapped his foot lightly, sending the shattered branches shooting backward like arrows.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The wind shifted subtly, the projectiles piercing the night as they homed in on the Mysterious Figure.
Whooo! Whooo! Whooo!
Yet as the Xiao’s notes soared violently into the sky, the entire night erupted with a fierce, murderous melody.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The arrows that should have pierced the clouds were instantly halted by an unseen force, exploding mid-air and swirling back with the wind.Ye Kuang felt the attack coming from behind but continued forward with perfect composure, his casual demeanor secretly making others break into a cold sweat for him.
In the blink of an eye!
Following a sharp “hiss-boom,” a tremendous roar pierced the clouds, not only dispersing the lingering Xiao music in the air but also shattering the raging wind and waves.
Seeing this, the Mysterious Figure abruptly rose to his feet. Watching the receding back, he couldn’t help but mutter to himself: Good… very good… Hahaha, indeed worthy of being defeated. You’ll come looking for me again… Hehe.
Long after the two had departed, a group of people came running onto the scene.
They were clearly the night patrol security guards!
“Captain, this place is really eerie. I don’t think that loud noise just now came from here. Let’s hurry up and leave.”
“Stop your nonsense! Just follow orders. Things haven’t been peaceful lately. We’re eating from his bowl, so we have to obey his rules. How many times have I told you? When I say one, there’s no two. Keep up!”
“Okay… But it’s strange—the weather forecast didn’t mention any thunderstorms today…”
Meanwhile.
Ye Kuang had returned to the dormitory, unconsciously furrowing his brow.
He was clearly pondering the intentions of these people. If they were merely looking for trouble, there should at least be a reason, yet each one was more aggressive than the last, making it quite intriguing.
Little did he know, he had become a symbol.
If Ye Kuang didn’t quickly resolve this trouble, his days ahead would be anything but peaceful.
The night passed without incident, and the next morning arrived.
A gentle, lingering melody from a Xiao interrupted the spring dreams of the students on campus.
From the opposite girls’ dormitory, fresh-faced heads popped out one after another, all captivated by the soft Xiao music.
At first, the sound was like a spring breeze, but as the melody gradually became more passionate and uplifting, it took on a different flavor.
It was like lovers meeting, pouring out their hearts to each other, perfectly showcasing the performer’s extraordinary skill.
One could say it was akin to turning decay into magic.
Ye Kuang jolted awake from his dream and couldn’t help but curse: “Damn it, is this bastard ever going to stop? He’s at it again?”
As he spoke, he pulled open the curtain, ready to unleash a torrent of curses, but unexpectedly, the Xiao music abruptly ceased.
Since last night, the Xiao music had started and stopped no less than a dozen times.
And what was infuriating was that he had no way to deal with it.
“Tonight, no matter what, I have to settle the score with that Mysterious Figure,” Ye Kuang thought to himself.
At that moment, stimulated by the sunlight, Gao Qing and the other two woke up as if from a dream and began cursing loudly.
“Are you kidding me? Last night, you went on about the endless Xiao music, and now you’re disturbing our morning dreams. Are you just looking for trouble?”
“Did you go out to be a thief last night? Or did you have a secret rendezvous with some lover? Full of energy this morning and want to start something?”
“Fat Tiger, that’s not right to say. He’s got so many lovers he’s probably forgotten about us brothers.”
Listening to the three of them bantering back and forth, Ye Kuang suddenly widened his panda-like eyes, unable to contain his frustration: “If you want to sleep, let’s all sleep together. Tonight, I’m taking you hunting, damn it!”
“What? Hunting what? Right now, I just want to sleep!”
“Hunting? You’re probably hunting pheasants!”
“Hey, don’t come any closer, damn it…”
“Ahhh…”
A short while later, Ye Kuang finally left the dormitory building, clearly refreshed and in high spirits. But who would have thought, the sound of the Xiao struck again.
He followed the sound and saw a masked figure clearly in view. At that moment, he couldn’t help but yearn to charge forward and battle it out for three hundred rounds.
However, this was not the time for that—causing a commotion so early in the morning would not reflect well.
Thinking this, Ye Kuang directly bypassed the Mysterious Figure and strode forward, blatantly ignoring his presence.
“Hehe… we’ll continue tonight…” the Mysterious Figure suddenly laughed.
Hearing this, Ye Kuang immediately halted his steps, but when he turned around, the Mysterious Figure had already vanished without a trace.
