Chapter 47 – The Witch and the Grimoire's New Home Preview
“Whоoooа! Sо this is how it’s laid оut! A cоrridоr in thе сеntеr! The еntrancе, bаth, and tоilеt оn thе right! Тhe bеdroоm and walk-in сlоsеt оn the left! Тhe dining kitсhen and living roоm strаight ahead! And nехt to that, a Japаnеse-style room!”
“Тhis is grеat, just greаt! Thе рrеviоus house was all Wеstern-stylе rооms, so I’ve аlwауs dreamеd of having а Japanesе-stуle roоm! I rеallу like this plаce, Mаster!”
“I sее. Then maybe wе cаn dесide right аway. Саn wе decidе immediаtеlу?”
“Y-уеs, of соursе!”
Thе rеal estate agent began making various preparations.
After this, we’d probably return to the office to handle the paperwork.
And on our end, we’d need a few days to prepare some things as well…
In the meantime, let me take a closer look inside this potential new home.
Apparently, because the walls were thickened for soundproofing, the layout is just a tiny bit narrower.
Is that okay?
They didn’t seal anything inside the walls, did they?
Well, even if they did, it’s probably fine.
They say a Streamer moving in is the ultimate security.
Flota and Ignite were zipping around, saying things like, “The bed is over there!” “It’d be better if we could Stream from two rooms!” “You can see outside from the window!” “Mmm, all these houses look so flammable!”
Yeah, it’s a slightly old-fashioned townscape, so that’s the kind of impression Ignite would have.
Don’t burn it down.
Right now, I’m not in Spice’s form, so I can’t use Telepathy.
I’ll have to rely on facial expressions.
Now, the kitchen.
It’s quite spacious and looks easy to use.
While cooking, you can see everything from the dining area to the living room.
It’s huge…!
This space alone could fit one and a half of my old rooms.
Normally, even out here in the countryside, a used property like this would probably cost around 20 million, but since it went through the ultimate accident of Dungeonization, it’s been discounted by about half.
Considering the renovation costs, aren’t they taking a loss?
Sh-should I buy it?!
I’m gonna buy it!!!
This is the biggest purchase of my life!
Feeling strangely excited, I walked around inside the property.
The Japanese-style room.
The tatami mats have been replaced.
It smells nice, like fresh rush grass.
It’d be nice to lie down here too…
And even though it’s January with no air conditioning on, the room is pleasantly warm.
Thanks to the thick walls, the insulation is excellent.
In summer, it probably won’t let the heat through.
Wonderful.
The electricity bill will be cheaper too.
“Oh my~? There are a few Lesser Spirits wandering around. Take that!”
“Ugwaaah!”
Flota smacked the edge of her book against a seemingly empty spot.
A scream followed, and a semi-transparent something went psshh and dissolved into the air.
“There are some over here too! Blraah! Tinder!”
“Ugwaaah!!”
A spark Ignite shot out along with a mysterious battle cry also Purified what seemed to be a Lesser Spirit.
“They still keep coming, huh.”
“Indeed. It seems they skimped on exorcisms and purification rituals after the Dungeonization was resolved. They renovated, but paranormal phenomena kept occurring frequently, so that’s probably why it’s so cheap.”
“I see. For me, something on the level of a Lesser Spirit doesn’t even register as a paranormal phenomenon anymore.”
I have two Grimoires that float and talk on their own, a sentient A-Phone, and I myself am a Witch.
Room 404 on the fourth floor, where spirits come and go.
Wouldn’t this be just perfect as a Witch’s hideout?
“Ah! This spot seems to be some kind of spiritual blind spot; you can’t peek inside from outside no matter what! It looks like a bit of the Dungeonization is still lingering!”
“Flota, you keep discovering new facts one after another… The real estate agent in the back is turning pale, you know.”
Apparently, they didn’t know about the lingering Dungeonization.
Maybe it’ll get a little cheaper…
In the end, we decided on that property.
However, as a freelancer, I couldn’t get loan approval from the bank, so it seems the Labyrinth Ministry will be “persuading” the bank for me within this month.
With that, the loan should go through.
Move-in is from mid-month.
I need to start preparing for the move.
As a token of thanks for the property introduction, I bought some sweets and such in front of the terminal station and headed to Mashiro’s house to say hello.
When I pressed the intercom, Mashiro’s mother appeared.
After exchanging greetings, I was shown inside.
“Senpai, did you decide on a property?!”
“Decided, decided! Thanks to you and your father, Mashiro. I wanted to thank you.”
“Nah, I didn’t really do anything.”
If Mashiro hadn’t acted as the intermediary, I might not have found such a good property.
I was shown to the living room and handed the sweets to Mashiro’s father.
Oh? They brought out what looks like some high-class tea and confections?
“Well, you see, you’ve been looking after my daughter. I hear you’re doing quite well for yourself. I believe good things and fine items gather around those who have the means.”
He has a rather… indirect way of speaking, doesn’t he?
“And so… how about it? How far have things gone with Mashiro…”
“D-d-dad!! Stop with the non-delivery behavior!!”
“Ugwaaah!”
Mashiro kicked her father over!
Her father toppled over, chair and all.
Her mother was just smiling cheerfully.
“What lively people.”
Feeling a premonition that my inner moat had already been filled in, I gratefully accepted the delicious tea and confections.
Is this really okay, this turn of events…!?
