Chapter 16 – Mo Family
Chapter 16 – Mo Family
Of course, Guo Dong’s Divine Beast System was relatively low-level and didn’t detect that Su Ming had a system.
Guo Dong maintained the etiquette of a saint: “Young Master Su, pardon the interruption, but my master is looking for the saintess.”
Su Ming pretended to sway nonchalantly: “Really? At this hour of night?”
Although Guo Dong knew Su Ming was no ordinary person, with his system, he felt he was the destined protagonist, so he didn’t take it to heart.
“My master said to take the Ice Crystal Turtle.”
Su Ming knew he was referring to Yun Shang’s Turtle Sister, but still played dumb: “Huh? What did my Ice Crystal Turtle do to you?”
Guo Dong was getting impatient. He had originally just wanted Yun Shang to come with him, but didn’t expect so many complications…
Guo Dong remained very polite: “Young Master Su, it’s not your Ice Crystal Turtle, it’s our saintess’s Ice Crystal Turtle.”
Su Ming continued swaying: “Really? Isn’t Turtle Sister Yun Shang’s spirit beast? Why do you need to take her away? Isn’t it better to leave her here to reunite with her brother?”
When Guo Dong heard this, he hadn’t expected the two Ice Crystal Turtles to be siblings. This made things a bit tricky.
At this moment, Turtle Sister was hiding behind the Ice Crystal Turtle. She didn’t want to be taken away. If Su Ming hadn’t come, she would have been locked up by Yun Shang’s master (the Heavenly Saint Sect’s sect master) all along. She was only released because outsiders were visiting and appearances had to be maintained.
Yun Shang nervously twisted the hem of her clothes. She didn’t know what Guo Dong would do to her, but she was afraid of seeing her master and afraid of Turtle Sister being taken away.
Su Ming used Sword Ghost to secretly release a wisp of sword qi—so tiny it was completely undetectable.
Of course, this was thanks to Sword Ghost. As a sword expert in his lifetime, his mastery over spiritual power within his body was unparalleled. Combined with Su Ming standing so close, it took only an instant—Guo Dong just felt like he’d been bitten by a mosquito…
Su Ming slapped his hand onto Guo Dong’s clothes: “Oh, there’s a mosquito.”
Guo Dong was puzzled inwardly. Hadn’t this place already been fumigated with incense? How could there still be mosquitoes?
Yun Shang saw Su Ming’s move and immediately sensed something was wrong. It looked like his hand had grabbed something from behind.
Su Ming was smug. Who would have thought the tricks she used to steal things in the village as a kid would come in handy here?
Although Su Ming wasn’t sure if what she’d stolen was knockout powder, looking at the paper packaging with no writing on it at all, anyone would think something was off.
Su Ming waved her hand: “Seems like you’ve got quite a few mosquitoes here. Go on, go get me some mosquito repellent.”
Guo Dong: “Then the saintess can come along too.”
Su Ming: “Wait a moment. I barely know anyone here. You go first—otherwise I won’t feel at ease.”
Guo Dong was puzzled inwardly, but he quickly realized something was wrong. He now suspected that Su Ming already knew he planned to drug Yun Shang. Could the drug already be…?
Guo Dong finally became serious. He felt that Su Ming was definitely not a simple person. In that case, he absolutely couldn’t clash head-on.
Guo Dong respectfully bowed: “In that case, I’ll go first.” With that, he hurriedly left, patting his pocket—sure enough, the knockout powder was gone.
Su Ming saw his hurried footsteps and knew her trick had been exposed, but there was nothing she could do. She couldn’t find anything to swap it with in time, and to avoid being framed, he needed to deal with it quickly.
Now Su Ming was frustrated. If only he could contract a ghost related to doctors, he could have exposed Guo Dong on the spot just now.
Yun Shang noticed that both Su Ming and Guo Dong seemed off, and she vaguely sensed that some kind of confrontation had just taken place—one that had ended without a clear victor…
Yun Shang asked, “What did you just steal? And why was he in such a hurry?”
Su Ming looked at her. “You might be in some trouble soon…”
She then told her about Guo Dong’s plan to use knockout drugs, and to prove it, she grabbed a chef ghost at random, which confirmed that the substance was indeed a sedative.
Yun Shang couldn’t believe it. She never imagined Guo Dong had sunk so low as to target her. If not for Su Ming’s vigilance, tonight might have ended very differently…
Su Ming said, “May I ask—you’re a saintess of the sect, so why would he dare treat you like this? And why did your master take away your Ice Crystal Turtle?”
Yun Shang looked at Su Ming, tears welling in her eyes. “I’m an outsider. My master raised me, so…”
Su Ming said, “That won’t do. You’re bound to run into trouble staying here. May I ask what your original name was?”
Yun Shang replied, “Mo Yun.”
Su Ming said, “Huh?”
A thought suddenly struck Su Ming. Her mother, Mo Qing, had once told her that if she ever met someone surnamed Mo in the future, she could try dripping her own blood into theirs.
If that person surnamed Mo had not yet awakened their natal ghost, she could help them complete the awakening. If they already had a natal ghost, it would appear on its own.
And if either of those situations occurred, she was to bring that person back—or call if she couldn’t.
Su Ming said, “Since I saved you, would you do me a favor?”
Yun Shang’s mind was spinning. She had always believed that if she just finished the last of their tasks, everything would be fine. But now Guo Dong was acting with such blatant disregard…
The Heavenly Saint Sect kept extremely close tabs on its disciples’ spending, because all cultivation resources here came from the military. Almost no transaction could escape scrutiny.
She couldn’t believe that Guo Dong’s purchase of knockout drugs would go undetected. It could only mean that the higher-ups had tacitly approved it—or that she was simply meant to be the sacrifice.
And if word got out, the union of the saint and saintess would be celebrated as a beautiful tale. None of them cared about her feelings…
Su Ming saw Yun Shang lost in thought and waved a hand in front of her eyes. “Don’t think so negatively. Maybe your sect is still protecting you.”
Yun Shang suddenly remembered something. “Young Master Su, didn’t you mention the blood-dripping? Let’s try it.”
Su Ming used her ghost sword to cut both their fingers. When Su Ming’s blood dripped into Yun Shang’s body, Yun Shang felt her blood qi surging within her.
Suddenly, a flash of lightning seemed to streak across Yun Shang’s vision, and a figure flashed through her mind. The figure spoke to her:
“If you crave great power, then you must swear loyalty to her.”
Yun Shang was stunned and blurted out, “Who are you?”
The figure’s voice echoed in her ears: “By blood, I am your ancestor. Our Mo Family is destined to assist the Lin bloodline. Since she is willing to help you awaken your bloodline, you must never betray her.”
Yun Shang’s heart was filled with confusion and unease. She pressed further, “Who is she?”
The figure’s answer only deepened her bewilderment: “Her true identity can only be revealed by her own lips. However, you may choose not to awaken your bloodline—but if you do, you will forever lose the Mo Family’s bloodline inheritance.”
Yun Shang couldn’t help but fall into deep thought, realizing that she had already lost nearly everything. If she were to lose the Mo Family bloodline as well, wouldn’t she truly have nothing left?
However, Yun Shang did not notice the Lin Family that the Mo Family ancestor had mentioned, because at this moment her mind was filled with all sorts of chaotic thoughts about the sect, leaving her no time to pay attention to other details.
After careful deliberation, Yun Shang finally made up her mind and said, “I am willing to accept all of this, but I hope to know whether she is truly worthy of my trust.”
The figure did not seem surprised by Yun Shang’s decision, and replied calmly, “You can always trust her. Now, I shall bestow upon you the Mo Family’s unique natal ghost!”
Yun Shang felt the surging of her bloodline, and at this moment, Su Ming also saw the figure: “The Mo Family vows to serve the imperial family with unwavering loyalty unto death.”
Su Ming was taken aback: “Ah? What imperial family?”
