Chapter 106: Lanni

Chapter 106: Lanni

Everyone tacitly ignored Wang Dazhuang, the vendor, and continued their conversation.

Li Wenjun: “White Dad! Is that Liya you? You didn’t turn into a woman, did you? Should I call you Mom? Putting that aside, Liya is really beautiful!”

Chen Dabai: “Of course not, don’t you dare set your sights on Sister Liya, or you won’t even know how you die.”

Xiong Er felt a bit panicked inside. She didn’t want anyone besides Xiong Da and Zhai Guangyi to find out about her transformation into a girl. It was fine to joke around in the group chat, but if it became known, she would definitely face social death.

Ye Yuanyuan: “@Chen Dabai, if it weren’t for the Demon King, how could there be so many Blessings? Everyone, be careful. Don’t approach Banwang City because of this—it’s definitely a trap.”

Chen Dabai: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m just telling you guys, come or don’t come, it’s up to you. And yes, I do have the Demon King backing me. My good buddy Zhai Guangyi is one of the Demon King’s Army Cadres.”

Ye Yuanyuan: “You really are a liar. We all transmigrated here just a few years ago. Every Cadre in the Demon King’s Army has over a century of seniority. Everyone, don’t go. Wherever the Demon King’s Army passes, it leaves devastation in its wake. They’re definitely trying to lure us over. We all have Special Skills, and those stuck on the path to Demigod in this World are eyeing us covetously. Unless absolutely necessary, don’t expose your location.”

Xiong Er, holding the Magic Mirror, felt two veins bulge on her forehead. This Ye Yuanyuan was always picking on her—just because they were exes, was it really necessary? Unfortunately, she couldn’t contact Zhai Guangyi right now. She didn’t know if he had really been tricked by the Demon King, but the Labor Contract clearly stated that the Demon King would protect Zhai Guangyi’s personal safety. If she hadn’t asked the Lord Divine Tree and confirmed that Zhai Guangyi was still alive, she would have thought he was already dead.

Xiong Er tried contacting Zhai Guangyi through the Magic Mirror again. Based on past experience, there would likely be no response, but this time, the connection went through immediately.

“What is it?”

Zhai Guangyi had been lurking in the group chat, watching with great interest and even urging them to keep arguing, when Xiong Er’s call came through.

“Holy crap! You actually answered! I thought you were dead! What’s the situation over there? Do you have time to vouch for me in the group chat and confirm you’re a Demon King’s Army Cadre?”

Zhai Guangyi, of course, wouldn’t do something as reckless as exposing his identity, and there was no need for it anyway. Now that he was awake, once he started being active in the Demon King’s Army, it would inevitably become known to the world. If this weren’t just an Avatar Body, Zhai Guangyi wouldn’t dare act so recklessly.

After hearing Zhai Guangyi’s explanation, Xiong Er also thought it made sense. These things would come to light sooner or later, so there was no need to discuss them in the group chat. Xiong Er began asking Zhai Guangyi why he hadn’t responded for so long and whether he was struggling in the Demon King’s Army.

Zhai Guangyi naturally couldn’t tell Xiong Er that he had been unconscious the whole time. After all, the period when the Spirit King Tree was weakened coincided with his coma, and it would be easy for others to notice something was off. It was better to be cautious.

“I ran into some issues on the way. I just arrived at Demon King City, and I can’t say much about the rest. I have to go now—let’s talk again if anything comes up.”

Afraid that saying more would lead to more mistakes, Zhai Guangyi chose not to chat further with Xiong Er. The group might also include that person named Lilith, the Demon King’s daughter. Since he was now essentially her subordinate, he couldn’t act too arrogantly. Many others, like Zhai Guangyi, were lurking in the group, observing the situation or speaking anonymously, all acting with great caution.

As for Ye Yuanyuan, her identity was most likely that of a Human Aristocrat, and one who harbored extreme hatred toward the Demon King’s Army, which explained her hostility toward Chen Dabai. However, he seemed to recall that Ye Yuanyuan was Chen Dabai’s ex-girlfriend, so perhaps the reason lay there as well—making it Xiong Er’s family affair.

The ones still active in the group were likely the same few, probably because they were relatively close to Banwang City. Recently, due to the need to grant Blessings, his True Body had become known to those nearby. And that fellow Xu Aicai mentioned that Yang Jingting exploded after just one glance—what did that mean?

But being able to see his True Body meant they couldn’t be far away. Could they be from the Dragonkin? After all, Amutate had mentioned before that there were Transmigrators among their kind. Currently, the biggest threat to his True Body was the Dragonkin. Although Amutate showed no hostility, having such a colossal being right at his doorstep still felt unsettling.

The Dragonkin would inevitably make contact with him, given how close they were. Considering Amutate’s strength, he needed to quickly cultivate more Demigods; otherwise, he would lack the ability to engage in equal dialogue or even defend himself.

Putting away the Magic Mirror in his hand, he found himself unfamiliar with Demon King City. Equipping his gear, he pushed open the door of his room and stepped into the corridor.

Judging by the lavish decor of the house, he knew this place was extraordinary, but why was there no one to greet him? He walked slowly to the hall, where a spiral staircase led down to the spacious first-floor lobby. There was even a fireplace, and between the first and second floors hung a strange mural depicting a Youth riding a massive Magical Beast, as if fighting on a battlefield.

The Youth in the painting looked odd—at first glance, he appeared young, but upon closer inspection, he resembled an old man. After a moment, he transformed into a middle-aged man. He had no idea who this person was, but since the figure in the painting kept changing, it was likely the owner of this house.

“You’re awake!”

Just as Zhai Guangyi was carefully examining the painting, an excited female voice came from behind him.

Zhai Guangyi turned to look and saw a Maid sweeping the floor in the lobby downstairs. Upon noticing he was awake, she handed the broom to another Maid, lifted the hem of her skirt, and hurried upstairs.

As Zhai Guangyi stood puzzled, the Maid lifted her skirt slightly, bowed with a nod, and after paying her respects, spoke.

“I am Lanni, the Head Maid of this mansion, and also your personal Maid. I have been ordered to wait here for you for a long time. Please contact Honored One Lvqi as soon as possible.”

Lanni showed great respect toward Zhai Guangyi. After finishing her words, she took out a black Magic Mirror from her pocket, lowered her head, and handed it to Zhai Guangyi with both hands. This Magic Mirror was the same one Hong Ren had given him earlier.

Seeing Lanni and the other Maids, Zhai Guangyi instinctively used Appraisal. The average Level of these Maids was around 20, which was quite decent—they could make a living as Adventurers, just like Luke and the others. Yet here they were, working as Maids and doing chores.

As for the Head Maid Lanni, her Level was surprisingly as high as 50, and her race was that of a living corpse. Zhai Guangyi did not sense any odor of decay from her; aside from her slightly pale complexion, she was just like a normal Maiden, brimming with youthful vitality.

It was also not a good habit to constantly use Appraisal to check others’ information. At the very least, Zhai Guangyi dared not look at the Demon King’s status panel—that time he checked the Elven Divine Tree’s panel had left him traumatized. He saw nothing at all, yet took such a great risk; it was hardly worth the trouble.
