Chapter 111: The Infant Demon King

Chapter 111: The Infant Demon King

Following Lvqi into the castle, the guards at the entrance immediately adopted respectful expressions upon seeing that the visitor was Honored One Lvqi.

Lvqi took out a Magic Mirror from his pocket. After verifying it, the guards opened the city gate, allowing Lvqi and his companions to enter.

The Magic Mirror contained a special Magic Power identification, a precaution against those with mimicry Skills attempting to infiltrate. Necessary identity tokens like this also served a defensive purpose.

“Your Magic Mirror has also been registered with cadre-level identity information, allowing you to freely enter and exit the Demon King’s Castle.”

Lvqi now resembled a kindly old grandfather, smiling as he explained to Zhai Guangyi.

Zhai Guangyi nodded. Although he lacked mimicry Skills, creating such a Magic Mirror would be effortless for him. However, the guards at the entrance were around Level 40, and he estimated the internal defenses would be even stronger.

The defensive forces inside the castle were indeed as Zhai Guangyi had imagined: uniformly Demon Humans above Level 40, with many even being Half-Step Demigods at Level 60. After all, this was a threshold—many people peaked at this rank. Advancing to Demigod was extremely difficult without opportunity or merit.

Passing through the corridor of the great hall, they reached a final set of double doors a hundred meters high. Zhai Guangyi felt nothing but awe at the sight; he couldn’t describe any other sensation. The doors were immensely thick, guarded by four burly men.

All four were muscular Demon Humans at Level 60. Together, they exerted their strength to slowly push open the hundred-meter-high double doors. Since some members of the Demon Race were dozens of meters in size, and certain Dragonkin or Trolls exceeded a hundred meters, the doors naturally couldn’t be made too small.

Beyond the doors lay a broad red carpet. Exquisite statues were carved into the stone pillars on either side, holding torches that cast bright flames, illuminating the vast space. The entire area was expansive, and the torchlight lent a mysterious aura to the dim interior of the castle.

Following Lvqi along the red carpet, they walked at a steady pace for a full five minutes before Zhai Guangyi saw the Throne. He noticed no one else in the spacious castle interior.

On the Throne sat a small Infant, with a Maiden standing beside it. At this moment, Zhai Guangyi dared not use Appraisal; even if he wanted to, he would need the Demon King’s permission.

“Demon King, this old one has brought the Primordial Spirit Zhai Guangyi.”

Lvqi bowed slightly, lowering his head respectfully toward the Infant on the Throne. Zhai Guangyi followed suit, bowing to the Infant on the Throne. As his current employer, Zhai Guangyi intended to show proper respect.

“Mmm, your timing isn’t great!”

The Infant on the Throne responded in a soft, milky voice. If Zhai Guangyi hadn’t learned from Lanni beforehand that the Demon King could take forms from different time periods, he would never have believed this little Infant was Honored One Mephistopheles, the Demon King. It simply didn’t match his impression.

The Maiden standing beside the Throne waved at Zhai Guangyi below. He glanced at her curiously. She was young, even quite petite, with black hair cascading like a waterfall and a rather charming appearance.

Zhai Guangyi didn’t recognize her, but he still waved at her symbolically. However, he instantly felt it was somewhat inappropriate—after all, this was the Otherworld, and he was facing the king of the Demon Race, yet he was greeting the maiden behind the Demon King.

But the Demon King wasn’t angry. He wriggled his body, glanced at the maiden behind him, and then nodded at Zhai Guangyi.

“This king has been waiting for you for a long time. Are you comfortable with the castle and villa this king sent? As for ice cream, this king had many made today. Let’s eat together later!”

“Honored Father, now is not the time for this.”

The maiden glared at the infant slumped on the Throne.

“Right, but this king is not in good condition now. We shall discuss grand plans another day.”

Mephistopheles on the Throne clutched his stomach, looking somewhat hungry, then reached out and pulled a milk bottle from who-knows-where, cradled it in his arms, and vanished in a flash.

This Demon King was just like a clueless little infant—though his current appearance was indeed that of a small infant. Moreover, Zhai Guangyi sensed that his will had also reverted to that of a child’s state, a far cry from the image of a Demon King he had imagined.

Forget about having overwhelming Magic Power—he didn’t even have the proper appearance. Shouldn’t a Demon King be a burly figure, pitch-black all over, with two horns on his head, possessing absolute power? Yet he had just shared ice cream with him.

“Demon King! Wait!”

Lvqi tried to call out to the fleeing Demon King, but as soon as he spoke, the Demon King, without looking back, hugged his milk bottle and dove straight into the Portal.

The maiden standing behind the Throne also helplessly covered her forehead. Zhai Guangyi heard the maiden call the Demon King “Honored Father.” Having such an infant father must be quite distressing.

However, this also allowed Zhai Guangyi to breathe a sigh of relief. The Demon King didn’t seem fierce and even appeared easy to bully, which eased much of Zhai Guangyi’s pressure.

“Ah, it seems we won’t be able to see the Demon King again for a while.”

Lvqi shook his head and said. During the time Zhai Guangyi was unconscious, many things had happened in the Demon King City.

“What exactly happened?”

Zhai Guangyi asked, glancing at the maiden who had originally stood behind the Throne but was now seated upon it. Although Zhai Guangyi didn’t know who she was, as the only Princess Royal here, he naturally needed her permission.

The maiden smiled and nodded at Zhai Guangyi, signaling for Lvqi to speak.

“During the time this old man went to the Mesopotamia Forest to find you, the Human Hero led a massive Human Army to attack our Demon King City.

A large-scale war broke out then. The Demon King didn’t pay much attention to the attacking Hero and instead sent this old man and that lad Hong Ren to invite you over.

This old man alone can match ten thousand, and although Hong Ren is a low-ranking officer, his combat prowess is formidable. After losing two major forces, the Human attack grew even fiercer.

But Humans are mere ants before the Demon King. With a single move, the Demon King slew the Human Hero, annihilated a large number of Human Demigods, and the severely wounded Human Army had no choice but to retreat and hole up in their city.

The Demon King rarely takes action now. Every time he does, he reverts to a youthful state to reduce consumption.”

But those naive humans always believed that this was depleting the Demon King’s power, when in fact it was no different from suicide. The Demon King’s strength is unfathomable; one cannot judge his condition by appearance alone.”

Lvqi expressed some regret that he had not been able to participate in that war, as he now needed a large amount of Soul Power to obtain Skill Points and raise the level of his Ultimate Skill.
