Chapter 139: There Are Still Allies

Chapter 139: There Are Still Allies

“There are still allies?”

Zhai Guangyi did not quite understand Demon King Mephistopheles’ meaning. The Demon Race had basically run rampant across the continent, waging countless wars, and their reputation had long been ruined. Who would still be willing to help the Demon King ascend to godhood? Wasn’t that just asking for trouble—making the Demon King even stronger to beat them up?

“Yes, Dragon God Radon.”

Mephistopheles always wore a strange smile, making Zhai Guangyi feel he was thinking of something unpleasant.

Zhai Guangyi had never had contact with Dragon God Radon, nor did he know what kind of existence the Dragon God was. But being crowned with the title of Dragon God, Zhai Guangyi felt he must be an extremely powerful being. However, he had heard that the relationship between the Dragonkin and the Demon Race was not particularly friendly, and the Dragon God was likely inclined toward the Elven Divine Tree, having heard they had a good relationship in the past. How could the Dragon God possibly help the Demon King?

“What? You don’t believe it?”

Seeing Zhai Guangyi’s skeptical expression, Mephistopheles continued with a slightly mocking tone.

“Dragon God Radon doesn’t want to get involved, but he has no choice. What we need to do now is drag him into the game.”

Mephistopheles wore a proud expression, sitting quietly on his throne, propping his head up with one hand, lazily dozing off right there on the throne. Then his appearance began to change again, growing aged, reverting to the appearance of a centenarian. Now he had actually fallen asleep in the middle of their conversation, which really made him seem unreliable.

“Ah, it seems he won’t wake up for a while. Let me explain the situation to you.”

Lilith walked out from beside the throne, nimbly approaching Zhai Guangyi. Previously, she had been like a princess beside the Demon King, appearing noble and majestic even in the presence of many Demonic Demigods. Now she had transformed back into the image of a youthful, lively maiden.

“Alright, go ahead.” Earlier, the Demon King had mentioned marrying Lilith to Zhai Guangyi in front of the Demonic Demigods, which now left Zhai Guangyi’s heart somewhat unsettled.

The Demon King had deliberately brought up Lilith’s talent and her future position as heir in front of the Demonic Demigods, while also emphasizing Zhai Guangyi’s crucial role in his own ascension to godhood. He had even suggested sacrificing Lilith to win Zhai Guangyi over. Such statements were bound to stir up discussions within the Demon Race.

Yet, his own secret had been kept confidential. Moreover, judging by the Demon King’s demeanor, he trusted Lilith deeply. Now that Lilith knew his trump card, to be honest, Zhai Guangyi still felt somewhat uncertain about her, harboring a degree of suspicion.

The Demon King’s intention to marry Lilith to him was likely due to his possession of a Unique Skill, which offered the opportunity to ascend to godhood. Even if he did not plan to kill Zhai Guangyi to seize this Unique Skill, it did not mean he was willing to simply hand it over.

The Primordial Spirit was not the key to his connection with the Elven Divine Tree; rather, it was his True Body—the Spirit King Tree possessing the Unique Skill. Perhaps Demon King Mephistopheles had noticed him when he killed that Demon Goblin Shabi.

Thus, he conducted a test in the Mesopotamia Forest, having Lvqi not attack his True Body but merely surround it, exerting Divine Pressure. Then, through Hong Ren’s contact with his Elven Body, he made him let down his guard, thinking his True Body was safe, and accept the benefits offered by the Demon King. In this way, he gained more time to probe into Zhai Guangyi’s secrets.

It seems the Demon King is far more cautious about Unique Skills than imagined. Even after learning Zhai Guangyi’s secret, he didn’t rush to act but instead considered how to maximize benefits. Lilith had likely also disclosed matters of the Otherworld to the Demon King. After all, within the Demon Race, the Demon King is akin to a Deity. For her own interests and the Demon King’s responsibilities, some secrets and truths were necessary—lies would hardly work before the Demon King.

Thus, the Demon King sought to win over Zhai Guangyi as a fallback for himself and the Demon Race. Zhai Guangyi roughly understood the Demon King’s intentions: the Demon King could offer Zhai Guangyi opportunities for rapid growth. With his Unique Skill, Zhai Guangyi possessed the potential to become a Deity. Even if Demon King Mephistopheles perished in this operation, the Demon Race would still have Zhai Guangyi as a safeguard, and Lilith could become the new Demon King.

But was the Demon King so certain that Zhai Guangyi would help him? Whether Zhai Guangyi could ascend to deityhood was an unknowable factor. Zhai Guangyi had no clear definition of what a Deity even was. These concepts felt too unscientific to him, though this World was never a scientific one to begin with.

“We will now split into two groups. All the Demon King’s Army below will head to Mesopotamia Forest, while this Demon King’s Castle will proceed at full speed toward the Elven Kingdom Ruins.”

Lilith spoke up. The actual Demons heading to the Elven Kingdom this time were likely just those who had been inside the castle earlier, along with the giant carrying the Castle forward.

“Mesopotamia? Why send the army there?”

That was his own lair—the location of his True Body.

It seemed he had noticed the Demon King’s Army appearing Inside the Forest before. Shabi from earlier was the same—that Shabi wasn’t a Goblin summoned by Lvqi but a genuine member of the Demon King’s Army who had received Name-Granting from the Demon King. He was probably a Demon Goblin of Genius caliber.

Zhai Guangyi’s True Body only occupied a small portion of the northeast territory in Mesopotamia Forest. The vast Forest still had western, northern, and southern regions.

Zhai Guangyi hadn’t sent Xiong Batian to explore these areas. Few wild Goblins or Magical Beasts appeared in his eastern territory anymore. The Demon King’s Army had likely long infiltrated the Forest. His accidental emergence had cleared the eastern area of the Demon King’s Army, and even Goblins had grown scarce.

“Because the war will erupt there. We need to drag Dragon God Radon into the conflict. You’ll understand the specifics soon. Your True Body should gain much from this war. I never imagined you were hiding so deeply—actually a possessor of a Unique Skill.” Lilith smiled as she approached Zhai Guangyi, still wearing that cheerful expression.

“I’m not as deeply hidden as you. I still don’t know who you really are.”

Zhai Guangyi felt Lilith had long known this Elven Body wasn’t his True Body. The Demon King trusted Lilith so much, even seeing her as his successor. It was worth noting the Demon King had other children, yet none received such treatment. The Demon King was willing to share many secrets with Lilith. Now, Lilith was the only Classmate who knew all his secrets, and Zhai Guangyi still felt somewhat afraid of her.

Others knew all about him, yet Zhai Guangyi felt he didn’t know Lilith at all, lacking even the familiarity one might have with a classmate. In his Previous Life, he had never had a girlfriend, nor could he recall being that close with any girl.

Lilith’s eagerness to get close to him struck Zhai Guangyi as suspicious. Could she be like Chen Dabai—once a good buddy of his who turned into a girl? But even then, her gestures and demeanor wouldn’t be so convincingly like a true Maiden, would he? He also couldn’t remember any close friend from his Previous Life as dear as Chen Dabai; after graduation, they had all drifted apart.
