Chapter 2: Wind Control

Zhai Guangyi didn’t hesitate much and decisively upgraded the System. After all, he currently had little means of self-protection. Upgrading Photosynthesis might bring him more Spiritual Power, but at the rate of just one point per day, it was better to rely on Brother Bear for food.

Fruit-bearing didn’t seem very useful either. If he went through the trouble of bearing fruit only for someone else to eat it, he might as well upgrade his Golden Finger—the System was the key.

After allocating the Skill Point to the System, Zhai Guangyi checked his panel again. Sure enough, it had changed.

At first glance, the results weren’t bad. At least he could now see some of the effects of his Skills, as well as his Life Value and Magic Power—much better than before.

If he kept leveling up like this, one day he would surely dominate the Otherworld.

Though the idea of a tree dominating the Otherworld seemed a bit far-fetched. If only he could turn into a human.

Then he could indulge in delicious food and fully enjoy the pleasures of the Otherworld.

Just as Zhai Guangyi’s upgrade brought about changes, a little bear cub beside the Giant Bear stared in confusion as the massive tree suddenly grew taller, thicker, and larger. Green new buds sprouted instantly, blocking out the sunlight until only faint halos remained.

The Giant Bear glanced up but didn’t react much, continuing to nap under the tree.

Zhai Guangyi had thought his transformation might have some impact on Brother Bear, but he’d overestimated things. Animals were still animals—how could they understand that he was capable of evolving and leveling up?

With Brother Bear as his backer, Zhai Guangyi lived a life of luxury, eating well and living comfortably. At this rate, leveling up would be as easy as drinking water, and he could freeload off Brother Bear’s dinners every day.

Zhai Guangyi suddenly felt that being a tree wasn’t so bad. At least he didn’t have to grind in modern society. He could just lie back and still have food, and even if he didn’t eat, he could rely on Photosynthesis.

Brother Bear hadn’t been idle these past few days either, bringing plenty of food for her two cubs every day. After eating, they habitually buried the leftovers near Zhai Guangyi’s massive tree. With more food, his level rose quickly. However, Skill Points were only given at a rate of 10 per level, so upgrading the System didn’t seem so easy.

Gradually, Zhai Guangyi grew accustomed to this pace of leveling.

Then one day, Brother Bear went out as usual but didn’t return all day. The next day, she came back covered in blood and mud, dragging a three-meter-long leopard in her mouth. She walked unsteadily, as if she might collapse at any moment.

The two bear cubs rushed over anxiously to help, dragging the Giant Bear and the freshly killed leopard to the base of the big tree. The cubs seemed frantic and unsure of what to do.

Who would’ve thought these two cubs were so intelligent? They’d make excellent food carriers in the future.

Brother Bear was so capable that Zhai Guangyi didn’t want her to die just like that. He could only try out the Fruit-bearing Skill he’d recently learned.

The Skill Fruit-bearing allows Zhai Guangyi to grow fruits with restorative effects, each requiring 5 points of Magic Power.

Zhai Guangyi did not hold back, as this was his major shareholder—he couldn’t let her be injured like this.

Zhai Guangyi used all his Magic Power at once, producing 10 golden fruits that resembled apples but had faint golden patterns on them.

With great generosity, Zhai Guangyi tossed all the fruits down, letting them fall beside the three bears.

The two cubs seemed somewhat stunned—this tree had suddenly grown fruits and was even throwing them down. They seemed to understand that the tree wanted their mother to eat the fruits to heal her injuries.

One cub picked up the fruits while the other placed them at the Giant Bear’s mouth.

The Giant Bear sniffed them, opened her large mouth, and swallowed seven in one gulp, followed by a deep swallowing sound from her throat.

The Giant Bear’s wounds began to heal rapidly, and the bleeding injuries started to scab over. The previously listless Giant Bear now had a golden glint in her eyes, seeming more vibrant and full of energy.

Zhai Guangyi marveled at how extraordinary the fruits he produced were—it was just a shame he couldn’t eat them himself. If he buried the fruits in the ground, could he absorb them too?

After recovering, the Giant Bear pushed the remaining golden apples to her two cubs while staring intently at Zhai Guangyi, the tree.

Zhai Guangyi felt a bit uneasy under her gaze.

After a while, the Giant Bear walked over to the panther and dug around in its internal organs, scattering flesh and entrails onto the ground.

A moment later, the Giant Bear held a blue stone the size of a marble in her claw and buried it beside Zhai Guangyi, as if thanking him for saving her life.

“Ding, Magic Crystal detected. Absorb?”

Hearing the System’s voice, Zhai Guangyi felt something good was about to happen and quickly chose to absorb.

“Ding, absorbed the Magic Crystal of a Tier 5 Magical Beast, Wind Demon Panther. Gained 1000 points of Spiritual Power and the Skill Wind Control—Level 5. Detected that Spiritual Power meets the requirements for Level Up. Level Up?”

Zhai Guangyi felt ecstatic—directly gaining a Level 5 Skill and so much Spiritual Power! If he had relied solely on leftovers, this would have taken at least several months!

Leveling up automatically restored the consumed Magic Power, and Zhai Guangyi had now grown to around 50 meters tall, no longer a small tree. His diameter had reached 6 meters, making him no different from the nearby century-old trees.

The scenery he could see was no longer just the green foliage of other trees, but the trees in this area were generally very tall. Zhai Guangyi was now only half a section taller than them, and he could still see many towering ancient trees.

At the very least, if Long-necked Sheep came again, they probably wouldn’t be able to reach his leaves.

Zhai Guangyi hadn’t expected Wind Control to be such a high-level Skill. The next Level required two hundred points, making it his only relatively advanced Skill so far. Today’s luck was truly remarkable.

He decided to try out the new Skill. After some simple experimentation, Zhai Guangyi realized this Skill was far from ordinary.

Although he was just an ordinary tree—even if he learned wind manipulation or Wind Control, it wouldn’t allow him to move an inch—Wind Control could bring other objects to him by riding the wind.

It was almost like gaining invisible hands. Through this Skill, he could control the wind, making leaves as lethal as flying daggers. However, using his own leaves would likely leave him bald in no time.

Ever since arriving in this World, he had become particularly protective of his leaves. Last time, he had nearly been nibbled bald by the Alpaca. But there were plenty of trees around. Zhai Guangyi could use their leaves to play with leaf daggers. Moreover, being in a woodland area, trees were everywhere, providing ample cover for his actions.
