Chapter 36: Demon Goblin

“Sorry, I’m still not quite used to it.”

Zhai Guangyi had just gathered so much Magic Power not because he wanted to unleash some powerful Move, but because he had been somewhat distracted watching the Goblin’s retreating figure, with various thoughts constantly flashing through his mind.

The accumulated Spirit Magic, however, had not been properly converted into corresponding Magic. Instead, it was simply released as pure energy. Although the power was immense, it was actually not very useful—far less effective than converting it into Magic.

“Ah! You turned all the Magic Crystals into powder, not even a shadow left. What a pity about that big hen—I was planning to have beggar’s chicken tonight.”

Xiong Er ran over to the bare patch of land. The sand and stones on the ground were still somewhat scorching hot, and they contained very dense magical elements. She believed it wouldn’t be long before this area became more lush than the surroundings.

Zhai Guangyi scratched his head somewhat sheepishly and gave Xiong Er an awkward smile.

Although he hadn’t obtained any Magic Crystals, by killing the Goblins, Zhai Guangyi could still absorb their Spiritual Bodies to gain Spiritual Power. Xiong Er, it seemed, couldn’t do this.

She could only rely on killing Magical Beasts herself to obtain a certain amount of Spiritual Power, while Zhai Guangyi could freely absorb the surrounding Spiritual Bodies—even those killed by others. The killer only received a certain amount, but he could take an extra share.

“Let’s go. We made too much of a commotion. It’s probably going to be hard to find prey around here now.”

Xiong Er once again pulled Zhai Guangyi onto the back of the Storm Holy Wolf and continued racing through the Forest.

About a quarter of an hour later, a black figure descended from the sky, landing at the spot where Zhai Guangyi and the others had just been. He crouched down and reached out to sense the Magic Power on the ground.

“What terrifying Magic Power. This must be the one the Grand Priest mentioned. Finally, I’ve found him.”

The black figure spread the enormous bat wings on his back, leaped into the air, and swiftly flew in the direction Zhai Guangyi and the others had left.

Thanks to its excellent hunting abilities and powerful physique, the Storm Holy Wolf quickly led Zhai Guangyi and the others to new prey—a giant lizard with a long tail somewhat resembling a snake, a head like a lion, and a body like a four-legged crawling lizard.

“It’s a low-level land dragon. This is pretty good—quite rare, and it provides decent experience. This time, don’t you intervene. Watch me.”

Xiong Er was now a bit wary of Zhai Guangyi, whose attacks were too heavy-handed. They would need to find a safe place to practice more when they had the chance.

Having experienced one failure, Zhai Guangyi now felt confident he could complete a hunt. However, he still gave the opportunity to his good friend. After all, he hadn’t yet earned Xiong Er’s complete trust, and using Magic felt too frustrating.

It was strong, sure, but forget about Magic Crystals—he couldn’t even preserve the Magical Beast’s intact corpse, and they still needed to bring something back to cook for dinner.

Lightning began to coil around Xiong Er’s body, the sparks generated by the crackling electricity drawing the land dragon’s attention. But Xiong Er wouldn’t miss the chance for a sneak attack.

Her entire body shot forward like a bolt of lightning. A tremendous roar echoed as the lightning struck the land dragon’s head directly. With the physical enhancement from the lightning coiling around her, Xiong Er showed no fear of the land dragon, which was several times larger than her, and delivered a powerful punch straight to its head.

The Earth Dragon was directly sent flying by the impact force, accompanied by a miserable cry as it crashed into the woods. Meanwhile, Xiong Er gracefully landed from the air, turned around, looked at Zhai Guangyi, and rubbed her nose.

“This is the kind of fight a man should have—fist to flesh.”

“You’re a woman now. Be more ladylike. Don’t think you’re cool; acting like this will just make others see you as a tomboy. Also, that Earth Dragon isn’t dead yet.”

Zhai Guangyi was cheering Xiong Er on wildly from behind, while the Storm Holy Wolf obediently sat beside him, panting with its tongue out and watching Xiong Er’s battle with the Earth Dragon with great interest.

Xiong Er was already quite familiar with combat and had developed her own fighting style. She used lightning to enhance her overall Body Attributes while also generating some super armor effects and paralyzing nearby creatures.

Spirit Magic and Wind Control Magic assisted her, relying on her exceptional movement speed to prevent the Earth Dragon from landing any hits on her. Meanwhile, Xiong Er could inflict significant damage on the Earth Dragon with her powerful physical prowess.

After all, she was originally a Giant Bear, relying on her formidable physical attributes to gain an advantage. Moreover, as a variant, she also had some control over lightning.

Whenever the Earth Dragon showed even a slight chance to counterattack, Xiong Er would use Lightning Strike to send it flying again. The Earth Dragon’s Body Attributes were also quite impressive—its strength and defense far surpassed Xiong Er’s, and its Life Force was superior as well. Yet, it couldn’t do anything to Xiong Er.

The Earth Dragon was beginning to feel a sense of despair and started trying to escape. However, as a low-tier Earth Dragon, its speed was no match for Xiong Er’s. Whether fleeing or fighting, it stood no chance.

Just as Xiong Er was about to deliver the final blow, a black orb descended from the sky. Seeing the black sphere, Xiong Er felt the same unease she experienced when Zhai Guangyi cast Magic.

Thinking it was bad news, she used every Magic she could to boost her speed, quickly distancing herself from the black orb and running to Zhai Guangyi’s side.

Before Zhai Guangyi could even see what was happening, Xiong Er suddenly retreated and appeared beside him.

Immediately afterward, a black flame enveloped the spot where Xiong Er had just been standing. The black flames burned relentlessly, even engulfing the nearby Earth Dragon. The Earth Dragon thrashed and struggled desperately inside, but the black flames clung to its body as if attached.

Amidst the Earth Dragon’s continuous, agonized cries, it gradually vanished, and the flames disappeared as well. The Earth Dragon’s body turned into a pile of ashes, leaving only a yellow Magic Crystal amidst the remains.

“I didn’t expect you to dodge that. Your reaction is pretty good, Demon Human.”

A monster with bat wings reappeared before Zhai Guangyi. It stepped on the Earth Dragon’s ashes, picked up the Magic Crystal on the ground, and looked at Zhai Guangyi and Xiong Er with a smug expression.

“Oh? You’ve even learned Appraisal Magic. And I am not some lowly, insignificant Goblin like those others. I am Shabi, the Honored One blessed by the gods. If you are willing to become my subordinates, you too may receive a Name-Granting from the Honored One in the future.”

Although Shabi looked terrifying, he could communicate as normally as a Human.

“He says his name is Shabi. Seems like he really is a shabi.”

“Hahaha.”

Shabi didn’t understand what was so funny about his name, but he felt the word carried a mocking tone, which irritated him.

“Lowly Beastkin, I’ve changed my mind. You can just die! As for that Elf, your mana is quite high. You must be the one the priest mentioned.”

Shabi extended a long green tongue, swallowed the dragon’s magic stone, and glared at Zhai Guangyi and the other with a disgusted expression.
