Chapter 51: Intelligence
Chapter 51: Intelligence
“That Forest Elf wearing a hood, don’t you recognize me?”
“Don’t recognize you?”
Faced with Feicui’s question, Zhai Guangyi could only shake his head helplessly. However, the fact that Feicui asked him this question also indicated that he hadn’t learned the Appraisal Skill. Zhai Guangyi couldn’t understand why Feicui was so confident without knowing the combat capabilities of both sides.
“Tch, another newborn junior? Listen up, I am one of the 72 Guardians of the Elven Divine Tree, got it? If you understand, then get lost. If you don’t, go back and ask your mother.”
Feicui placed his hands on his hips, raised his head with a smug expression, and waved dismissively at Zhai Guangyi and his group.
“Do you understand?”
Xiong Er turned to ask Zhai Guangyi, who could only shake his head in response.
“Not really.”
“What? You’ve never heard of the Elven Divine Tree? I might as well be your ancestor!”
Feicui’s wings fluttered, and he instantly flashed to the opposite shore of the lake, arriving right in front of Zhai Guangyi and the others. Xiong Batian cautiously raised her Spiked Club in front of the group, ready to respond to Feicui’s next move.
“Don’t be nervous. If I really wanted to use my strength, I would have sent you packing long ago. That Forest Elf over there, answer a few questions for me, and I’ll spare your lives.”
Zhai Guangyi looked at Feicui’s status panel. If they really had to fight, it was hard to say who would win. Feicui had mentioned earlier that he could grant Blessings, indicating he was very powerful. It was difficult to gauge strength just from status attributes, especially since he couldn’t see Feicui’s Skills.
Moreover, Feicui seemed to have quite a reputation and appeared to have connections with the higher ranks of his own race. He was currently a Spirit King Tree—was the next level up the Elven Divine Tree?
“Go ahead and ask. As long as it’s within my knowledge, I’ll answer.”
If it wasn’t necessary, Zhai Guangyi didn’t want to make an enemy of him. It was best if they could resolve things through dialogue.
“Do you have a name?”
“Yes.”
“If you have a name, then your father or mother must be of a high rank. I wonder whose child you are. Tell me your parents’ names so I can figure out which family you belong to.”
“Um…”
Zhai Guangyi thought about it. Strictly speaking, the parents of this body were also himself. How should he explain that? Perhaps Feicui did have deep connections with the Elven Clan, but he certainly had no relationship with Zhai Guangyi. This body had been forcibly manifested by the ‘World.’
“Aren’t all Elves grown from trees?”
Xiong Er blurted out what she had seen and heard.
“Huh?”
“Right, right, I grew from a tree.”
Feicui looked incredulous, and Zhai Guangyi quickly nodded, confirming Xiong Er’s answer.
“What’s your race name?”
“Primordial Spirit.”
“Oh, Primordial Spirit—pfft, impossible.”
Feicui stared at Zhai Guangyi in disbelief and reached out to pull off his hood. Xiong Batian still held her Spiked Club in front of him, blocking Feicui’s outstretched hand.
“Take off the hood. Why wear a hood in this big Forest? Who’s looking at you?”
Feicui seemed very impatient, and his tone was harsh, but Zhai Guangyi obediently complied. It wasn’t that he liked wearing a hood—it was just that the cheapest clothing in the System Shop was this set. He had changed into it as soon as this body came into being and had been wearing it ever since. Although it had no special functions, it was self-cleaning, so he didn’t have to bother washing clothes.
Pulling down the hood, Zhai Guangyi’s appearance was revealed before Feicui.
“Doesn’t look like it. Aside from being a bit more attractive, I can’t see any difference from an ordinary Forest Elf.”
“Thanks for the compliment, but I’d appreciate it if you’d just use Appraisal and save us the trouble.”
Zhai Guangyi was somewhat exasperated with Feicui. He wanted to look, yet couldn’t discern anything.
“Impossible. The Primordial Spirits should all be dead by now. The Elven Divine Tree couldn’t possibly give birth to another Primordial Spirit either. Or has the Lord Divine Tree recovered? But why haven’t I sensed it?”
Hearing Feicui’s words, Zhai Guangyi suddenly grew interested. He had heard from Liya before that her clan had been searching for the Spirit King Tree. Back when Zhai Guangyi was just an ordinary Spirit Tree, he had felt somewhat embarrassed being mistaken by Liya. Now that he had become a King Tree, it seemed there was still an Elven Divine Tree in existence.
“I was born from the Spirit King Tree, not the Divine Tree you mentioned.”
Zhai Guangyi decided to reveal a little about his True Body, hoping to learn more details from Feicui’s mouth.
“King Tree? A King Tree can give birth to a Primordial Spirit? Impossible. Wait, this might be the turning point. Where is that Spirit King Tree!”
Feicui excitedly tried to grab Zhai Guangyi’s shoulders to ask, but was shoved aside by Xiong Batian, stumbling backward. He glared at Xiong Batian before turning his gaze back to Zhai Guangyi.
“Well, we’re planning to bring the Black Bear Clan over to the Spirit King Tree to protect it.”
“Fine, let’s set off now. I’ll go back with you.”
Feicui directly spread the huge wings on his back, soaring into the air, seemingly unable to wait to return with Zhai Guangyi and the others.
“Not so fast. You’ve asked me so many questions; I’d like to ask you a few as well.”
“Such a troublesome kid. Go ahead and ask.”
Feicui, who had just taken flight, could only land somewhat impatiently, placing his hands on his hips, extending one foot slightly, and tapping the ground repeatedly with the ball of his foot, as if urging Zhai Guangyi to hurry up.
“Why is it impossible for a King Tree to give birth to a Primordial Spirit?”
“Are you stupid? You really have no common sense at all. Primordial Spirits themselves are symbols of Magic Power. As the original Elf species, only a Deity can create them—that is, the Elven Divine Tree, the origin of Magic Power.
Although a King Tree can also nurture Spirit Fruit, it’s merely nurturing. It cannot give birth to life; it lacks a Soul. It’s just a simple fruit.”
Feicui’s attitude could be described as quite poor, but his explanation was relatively clear. Looking at that impatient face, Zhai Guangyi mustered his courage and continued.
“Can you tell me about the Elven Divine Tree? And why you said all the Primordial Spirits are dead.”
“Tsk, it’s been over a hundred years. How can there still be an Elf asking such questions?”
“Ahem, is it possible that I was just born and don’t know much?”
“To be honest, encountering a Primordial Spirit at a time like this is truly wonderful. Perhaps you are the turning point, but you’ll most likely repeat the fate of those previous Primordial Spirits—dying before the Elven Divine Tree.
How should I put this? The Elven Divine Tree… It has gone mad.
Basically, all Spirit Trees connected to it have become corrupted. There shouldn’t be any Spirit Trees left in this World. I never expected there would still be a Spirit King Tree in existence.”
If those Forest Elves searching all over the continent for the Spirit Tree were to find out, they would surely gather here. There probably aren’t many Forest Elves left who survived from that era—the remaining ones are likely all newborns like you.
