Chapter 92: Close-Combat Mage
Chapter 92: Close-Combat Mage
But how could Xiong Batian possibly let Seta go? Every time she struck the castle wall, it caused terrifying tremors throughout the castle. Xiong Batian briefly considered what would happen if the castle collapsed, but then remembered that Zhai Guangyi and the others could fly.
Forget it, she thought, and continued smashing away.
The castle’s sturdiness surprised Xiong Batian—she had never seen such a hard building. In comparison, her small wooden hut was like paper. If her strength were only 11,000 points, breaking through would have been difficult, but with Berserk and Berserk Domain both activated, these walls were nothing.
However, the spiked club in her hand was starting to give out. The handle she gripped had already deformed, and the walls were so hard that each strike warped the club further. Eventually, the spiked club could no longer withstand the strain, bending and twisting until Xiong Batian reluctantly tossed it aside and began using her fists to clear the way.
Xiong Batian recalled the longsword in Seta’s hand. She remembered that although Seta couldn’t dodge her strike, he had blocked it with his sword—otherwise, his head would have exploded like a watermelon. That was when the spiked club began to deform, yet the longsword remained completely unscathed.
Though she didn’t know how to use a sword, perhaps she could ask the Lord Divine Tree to reshape it into a suitable club. Then she’d have a brand-new weapon.
Seta had just rounded a corner. A few more steps, and he would reach the outside of the castle. With the pass token in hand, the barrier would shield him from enemies.
But a hand abruptly pierced through the wall, appearing right in front of Seta. He hastily dodged backward. Xiong Batian tore through the wall as if it were paper, emerging directly before him.
To Seta, this demon human was a living she-devil. Despite her impressive figure and captivating appearance, in his eyes, she was a death-bringer—a monster who could reduce his supposedly indestructible castle to such a state with her bare hands. Seta drew his longsword. All he wanted now was to cross that barrier and escape; there was no need for a life-or-death struggle with this demigod demon human.
At the top of the castle, Zhai Guangyi watched the humans scurrying about, growing impatient. He glanced at Lvqi, hidden in a corner of the banquet hall. This guy hadn’t left his side nor shown any intention to act—clearly here to ensure his safety.
So, could he be bolder and take the initiative to fight? After all, Lvqi would protect him, and the summoned high-ranking spirits attacked on their own, requiring no attention from Zhai Guangyi. Besides, it had been a long time since he’d experienced pure hand-to-hand combat.
With Xiong Batian’s buffs and the enhancements from Yu Mo Ling Qu, his own attributes had reached 7,000 points in strength. There was no need to hold back—none of those present exceeded 3,000 points in strength. What was he even afraid of? Zhai Guangyi hadn’t stretched his limbs in ages.
He picked up his flying staff. Aside from enabling flight, this staff was exceptionally hard. As a Blue Quality weapon, it could maintain its hardness as long as magic power was channeled into it. Using it to smash people from the air—wasn’t that more effective than magic?
Moreover, the High-Rank Ice Spirit continuously released terrifying cold air, causing the Humans to move even more slowly. No matter how those Human experts scaled walls and leaped across rooftops, could they possibly fly? You may climb walls, but I’ll simply appear right above your head—let’s see you fly then.
Xiong Da was somewhat dumbfounded. Ever since arriving in the Human city, he had disliked close combat. After all, he wasn’t like Xiong Batian. His growth in strength and Magic Power wasn’t high; instead, his defense kept increasing. Since he was also afraid of taking hits, it was better to avoid close combat whenever possible. Wasn’t it better to let those obedient Humans take the blows for him?
Yet, Zhai Guangyi, that weak Primordial Spirit, actually flew out on his own, wielding a magic wand and smashing it down on the Humans’ heads.
At first, a Level 50 Human expert didn’t take this little girl seriously, even wondering if this Elf had lost her mind.
He had been thinking about how to get close to her, but now, she had flown right over to deliver herself. They had already been driven to the point where their hair was burned off by those two High-Rank Spirits, constantly dodging and unsure how to break the stalemate, when this Spirit actually flew over on her own.
The Level 50 Human expert raised his longsword, imbuing it with various attribute enhancements. Red and yellow lights continuously coiled around his blade. This was a Legacy technique from the Human Swordsman School, using a small amount of Magic Power to enhance the weapon, thereby reducing the strength gap between Magical Beasts and Humans.
However, this sword strike, which sliced through the air, was met with Zhai Guangyi’s magic wand. The blade shattered directly upon impact, and the magic wand showed no sign of stopping, smashing directly into the Swordsman’s body. His chest caved in instantly, and a large amount of blood seeped from his mouth and nose. His internal organs had been turned to mush by that single blow.
Zhai Guangyi knew nothing of Martial Techniques, relying solely on pure strength to smash into people. He hadn’t expected this Level 50 Human to die so easily—a hundred points of life vanished in an instant. Human bodies were truly fragile. If Seta had managed to survive Xiong Batian’s terrifying blow, it could only mean he was incredibly wealthy, with top-tier Equipment.
Although this battle didn’t occur near his True Body, the souls of the deceased Humans could still be absorbed. Moreover, most of those who died were Humans controlled by Xiong Da. Under Xiong Da’s orders, they had engaged in combat with the stronger Humans, and Xiong Da himself had absorbed quite a bit of Soul Energy.
However, his Elven Body could only absorb a small portion; the majority of the souls passed through Zhai Guangyi’s soul and went to his True Body.
Zhai Guangyi discovered that every life that died nearby would have its soul partially absorbed by beings at the Demigod level or above, including even Xiong Da, who wasn’t a Demigod, could claim a tiny share. Yet, his True Body managed to take the lion’s share.
If the Magic Crystals of Magical Beasts were their Soul Crystals, then the souls of Humans were equivalent to the Magic Crystals of Magical Beasts. Humans lacked Magic Crystals but possessed souls of even higher quality. These souls not only had the chance to yield Skill Points but could also provide System Currency. This was likely the key to how the Special Skills of Xiong Da and the others operated—unable to run on Magic Power, they instead relied on the souls of living beings.
The reason he was able to claim the lion’s share was most likely due to his Unique Skill ‘World’. Even if Zhai Guangyi were not present, the other Demigods could only take a tiny portion—their efficiency in absorbing souls was simply that low. Yet Zhai Guangyi could absorb them completely and even use the System to prevent those souls from being absorbed by others.
