Chapter 192: Special Players in the Bunker
Chapter 192: Special Players in the Bunker
No wonder every Beta Tester needed their own Power Faction—the more people there were, the faster the Sanctuary could be built.
And the more Players operating various Turret installations, the safer the Sanctuary would be.
Kamiyu looked at the piles of materials stacked on the ground, which were barely being consumed and seemed almost untouched.
Even with 29 people hammering away until sparks flew, the Sanctuary was currently being constructed at a speed of 0.001%. It was more agonizing than downloading resources without a cloud storage membership, or being stuck at 99.9% on a PDD discount—forever just that 0.1% short.
Kamiyu was so anxious she could hardly breathe.
Besides constructing the Main Body walls, they also needed to build an outer wooden wall using Fear Emperor Tree wood. On every floor of the apartment building, Magic Cannons had to be installed. Kamiyu was completely overwhelmed.
“This is unbearable, absolutely unbearable. Where are the Players?” She desperately needed a group of Players to do the hard labor for her.
Everyone also felt the current pace was unacceptable.
“Sigh, after hammering for so long, we’ve only built the third wall. When will this ever end?”
“Right, and the key issue is we’re standing outside right now. What if we get ambushed by Ability Users?”
“But thankfully, building the Sanctuary gives Experience Points. I’ve leveled up three times already. If Ability Users come, I can hold them off for a bit.”
“You’re right, but it would be so much better if we had more people building together.”
Sometimes, no matter how nicely you put it, it’s useless. Only when there are tangible benefits do people willingly listen to you.
Because building the Sanctuary awarded Experience Points, everyone was giving it their all, hammering until sparks flew and the tools practically smoked.
Following their conversation, Kamiyu asked, “Where are there more people now? If anyone is trapped, I’ll go rescue them.”
At that moment, Wang Fang stepped forward and said, “At the north campus of our Longming Technical College, there are still several hundred classmates who locked themselves inside a Bunker.”
“For some reason, Xiao Zhong couldn’t use the Black Sphere to send the information about turning humans into Players to the people inside the Bunker.”
“Did you later go to the Bunker to check the situation?” Kamiyu pinpointed the key issue.
Kamiyu had also once been a student in the Esports Department of Longming Technical College. She knew the north campus was not far from the Sanctuary, with a straight-line distance of less than 8 kilometers.
Wang Fang hesitated, unsure what to say.
Someone beside her explained on her behalf, “Back then, we couldn’t even take care of ourselves. Many Veteran Players were no match for the Ability Users—they died just like that. How could we have spared any thought for those few hundred people?”
Kamiyu thought about it and realized it made sense. Everything had happened too suddenly. If not for her arrival, they would have been doomed in such a harsh environment.
She thought to herself, then the situation at the Bunker couldn’t be much better either.
If she took in these five or six hundred people, they would become firefighting Players, speeding up the construction of the Sanctuary and enabling a counteroffensive against the Fear Emperor Tree. But if they were sacrificed by the Ability Users, they would become a hindrance to her.
No matter what, she had to set out to rescue these people.
With that, she exchanged a glance with Jack and then headed alone toward the Sanctuary, preparing to rescue this group.
Kamiyu thought to herself, since the Black Sphere’s information could infiltrate anything, yet messages couldn’t be sent to the bunker, it meant that place might be a special terrain or there were Players with unique Skills capable of blocking the Black Sphere’s signals. Such talents—Kamiyu had to recruit them and bring them into her own Camp.
Everyone was somewhat worried and said, “Are we really letting Miss Kamiyu go alone?”
Jack understood what this person meant and declared resolutely, “If those Ability Users dare to attack the Sanctuary at this time, I’ll nail them to the wall and wait for Kamiyu to come back and execute them.”
“So cool, bro.”
“Let’s speed up building the walls.”
“I have an idea—I want to build an execution tower and hang criminals beneath it to warn those with ill intentions who join later,” one Player said.
“That’s a good idea.”
They all considered themselves Kamiyu’s Close-Range guards, each acting as if they had contributed to her rise, their enthusiasm at its peak.
Jack shook his head at their excitement.
Meanwhile, inside the bunker outside the north campus of Longming Technical College.
Over five hundred students were trapped in the bunker, with an atmosphere of anxiety and complaints spreading everywhere, ready to ignite at the slightest spark.
“Dunzi, I warn you, you have no right to lock us up. Open the bunker immediately and let us out,” a female Student Council Vice President shrilled.
Dozens of cadres below echoed in unison, backing Vice President Xiaomei.
Behind them, over a hundred students who didn’t know the truth joined in the commotion, urging Dunzi to open the bunker and let everyone out.
“Oh, Xiaomei, wasn’t it you who told Dunzi to use his earth Skill to block the bunker, leaving the students outside who couldn’t make it in time to die at the hands of the Ability Users? Have you forgotten so quickly?” a Freckle-Faced Girl stepped forward to retort.
“Is that the same? If they couldn’t make it into the bunker in time, they can only blame their short legs for running slowly or their bad Luck.
Now that the Ability Users have been driven away and there are expert Players heading to the south campus, I want to go there. Who wants to stay here with you bunch of bugs?
And who allowed you to call me by my name? Call me Student Council President,” Xiaomei said with sharp sarcasm.
“Yes, Xiaomei, Vice, Student Council President,” the Freckle-Faced Girl emphasized the word “Vice,” clearly intending to infuriate Xiaomei.
“Hey, stop arguing. I’ll open the bunker. Yu Kai used his Skill to observe outside, and there’s no danger out there,” said the black, stout, short boy named Dunzi in a simple, honest tone.
Dunzi’s roommate Yu Kai said, “I just used my beast-taming Skill to observe. The Ability Users within tens of kilometers around have already retreated, probably because of those two powerful Players from the east.”
It turned out that many students at the north campus of Longming Technical College had also received Xiao Zhong’s messages and become Players.
Dunzi, Yu Kai, and some others had luckily become Players. They fled to the Sanctuary, and under the urging of the Student Council Vice President, Dunzi used his earth-control Talent to seal the bunker shut.
A silent male Player who didn’t speak also used a Dark Skill to silence the radio waves, preventing the Ability Users from finding everyone.
Yu Kai used his beast-taming Skill to control hundreds of pigeons circling in the sky to survey the situation. He observed and verbally narrated the series of events from Kamiyu and Jack entering the city, to their battles, and finally their reunion.
Now that Xiaomei saw there were stronger experts in the South Campus, she no longer fawned over Dunzi and often mocked him. Now she was urging everyone to quickly open the gates and join the South Campus.
The freckled girl said, “How dare you even think of going over? You sneaky, two-faced person—they’d be doing you a favor just by not killing you.”
“What does an ugly freak like you know? Since when is it your place to speak here?” Xiaomei retorted.
“Things are so chaotic right now—where do you think you’re going?”
“If we don’t go, what will we eat? What will we drink?”
“Stop arguing, all of you.”
“Quiet, someone’s coming,” said the Beastmaster Player Ming Kai.
