Chapter 236: Luring the Enemy In, Open Fire
Chapter 236: Luring the Enemy In, Open Fire
Dealing with these Fourth-Tier Ability Users with Dark Gold weapons was like using anti-aircraft guns to shoot mosquitoes—a pure waste of Durability. Even Ancestral Legendary Tier weapons could kill these annoying pests very smoothly.
Kamiyu said to Jack, “Your Doombringer only has 300 Durability. You’ll need it later to fight Hungry Ghost Shara, so take it easy.”
Jack nodded in acknowledgment.
Immediately after, Kamiyu reminded him to follow the plan.
“Are we really going to play it this way? Isn’t it too risky?” Jack asked with concern.
“No problem. Our earlier moves scared them so much they didn’t dare to move. If we don’t give them some slack, they’ll probably be so frightened they’ll turn tail and run. Then all the Magic Cannons we worked so hard to build would be wasted, wouldn’t they?” Kamiyu looked back at the thousands of Magic Cannons inside her Sanctuary.
Jack looked at her like an indulgent older brother looking at a willful younger sister, lowered his head, and said, “Since you’re so set on playing it this way, I’ll play along with you. We’ll do as you say.”
So the two struck once and then immediately disengaged, swiftly returning to take up positions above the front of the Sanctuary.
The people in the Black Sphere War Room observed the Royal Pegasus flying back and understood that Kamiyu’s battle plan had entered its second phase—luring the enemy in.
Li Changde excitedly stood up, used his telescope item to gaze into the distance, and said with trust, “Lady Kamiyu’s first phase of the plan—’eliminate all enemy aerial targets’—has progressed very smoothly. Next, it’s up to everyone else.”
Xiao Zhong immediately gave orders to all Players at the artillery positions to adjust coordinates and be ready to fire at any moment.
On the Ability User side, the ground-crawling Fourth-Tier Ability Users didn’t understand Kamiyu’s sudden withdrawal.
“Kamiyu clearly had the upper hand, killing all our flying companions in just a few moves. Why is she retreating now?” a scar-faced rat-headed Ability User asked in confusion.
“Could it be that Kamiyu is afraid of our three hundred thousand Fruit Ability User Army?” the scar-faced rat-head speculated. “Very likely. No matter how powerful she is alone, how could she possibly fight against a three hundred thousand-strong Fruit Ability User Army? We could drown her Sanctuary with just one spit each.”
The other Ability Users shared the same thought, including the commander-in-chief, the fifth-tier Hungry Ghost Shara.
Hungry Ghost Shara, atop the Ability User human-elephant, stared intently at Kamiyu flying into the distance and said doubtfully, “She clearly possesses the strength to kill a Fourth-Tier Ability User in one strike, and dealing with the Fruit Ability User Army would be easy for her. Why is she running away?”
“Could it be a trap ahead? Is she trying to lure me in?”
Being a commander, especially one leading an army of several hundred thousand, made warfare completely different. Because of the massive scale, it was like a large ship hard to turn around. Often, they could only keep advancing, not allowing the commander to order a retreat.
Hungry Ghost Shara felt both puzzled and unwilling to admit defeat. They had just lost all their aerial forces at the start, and now the enemy Kamiyu wasn’t taking the initiative to attack but was retreating instead, essentially denying him a chance to retaliate.
Hungry Ghost Shara felt extremely frustrated. He wished she would stay and let him attack her, but Kamiyu simply wouldn’t give Hungry Ghost Shara that opportunity.
Hungry Ghost Shara seemed to see a scene: a mischievous brat giving his backside a hard kick, then scampering off in a flash. Now he, holding a bunch of things in his hands, couldn’t decide whether to chase or not.
What she held in her hand was an army of three hundred thousand.
Returning to Kamiyu’s side.
On the Royal Pegasus, Kamiyu watched the Black Sphere broadcast on her tablet and found Hungry Ghost Shara’s hesitant expression amusing, because it meant he had fallen into her trap.
If Hungry Ghost Shara did not send troops to pursue, she would have more time to catch her breath, produce weapons, equipment, and tools, and unleash her war potential.
If Hungry Ghost Shara sent troops to pursue, his entire force of hundreds of thousands would fall within her artillery coverage.
There was another reason Kamiyu returned to the Sanctuary: to stay within the range where she could absorb Experience Points. Once the Artillery Position opened fire, there would be a steady stream of Experience Points—how could she miss that?
On the Crimson Earth, team members had to be within a certain range to gain Experience Points.
Unable to bear the “humiliation” of this hit-and-run tactic, Hungry Ghost Shara waved his hand grandly, and the three hundred thousand-strong army advanced rapidly once more, vowing to crush Kamiyu’s Sanctuary and cut off her head as a sacrifice.
Men San, hiding nearby, shook his head and said, “Isn’t it just about having stronger brute force? Even the fifth tier is nothing special.”
“Given her evil and cunning nature, there must be a trick at the Sanctuary. Choosing to continue advancing is one thing, but maintaining a front-middle-rear formation clearly shows she’s being played by Kamiyu.”
Unlike Men San, the Players on the tree branches believed Kamiyu was retreating because she was no match for the hundreds of thousands of Fruit Ability Users.
A high-level Player, seeing Kamiyu flying rapidly toward the Sanctuary, snorted arrogantly and said, “The more powerful the Skill, the greater its limitations. Her Skill has entered a long Cooldown period. It seems she wants to use the Sanctuary to buy time.”
“That’s right. Such a powerful Skill must come with equally significant limitations. The Players in the Sanctuary are unfortunate—they’ll be sacrificed for her. They won’t last long under the attack of hundreds of thousands of troops,” another added.
“However, if more Players supported her, like during the Hell Tide when everyone defended Kaijistan together, it might still be manageable.”
“Stop dreaming. We won’t help Kamiyu. Going down there would only mean certain death. They’re doomed,” a high-level Player asserted.
Back on the battlefield.
The charge of the three hundred thousand-strong army caused a minor earthquake. Those inside the Sanctuary could already feel the ground trembling and saw clouds of dust rising ahead. Even without seeing the specific Ability Users, they could sense unprecedented pressure.
Many swallowed nervously and wiped the sweat from their palms.
“They’re here,” Kamiyu said from atop the Royal Pegasus as she saw the frontline of the Fruit Ability User Army enter her line of sight. She raised her right hand, signaling the start of the bombardment.
Before the bombardment began, the prepared Bards and Archmages unleashed their Skills, casting Buffs to boost morale and increase Attack Power.
The sounds of Skills like “Courage Surge,” “Harmony of Confidence,” and “Sacred Shockwave” echoed one after another.
Colorful Magic Circles lit up along the City Wall, dispelling panic and leaving only tension in its place.
Seeing the preparations complete, Kamiyu, like a Great General, swung her right hand forward in a downward motion.
“Commence bombardment, fire at will,” Kamiyu shouted.
Such a cool line, she had to shout it out, and it could also boost morale.
The dense sounds of artillery fire roared, “Boom, boom.”
Streaks of meteors appeared in the sky.
