Chapter 277: Reputation, Putting on a Show
Chapter 277: Reputation, Putting on a Show
Mephisto thought to himself: The Fear Emperor could revive by feeding on human fear. The roots of the Fear Emperor Tree contained vast amounts of negative human energy, and it could also use the hatred of humans at the moment of death to resurrect. The Fear Emperor had already killed tens of millions of people; beneath the Fear Emperor Tree lay a treasure trove of negative energy.
If the Fear Emperor could revive, why couldn’t Mephisto? So Mephisto once again influenced Jack, making him suggest using the Magic Cannon. This way, Mephisto could use the Demon King’s power to borrow the Altar of Lilith and absorb, even steal, the Fear Emperor’s strength.
Why could Lady Kamiyu see through Mephisto’s scheme at a glance? Because his track record was extensive—every scroll bore his name. He had been involved in almost every misdeed on the Crimson Earth, truly a master of stirring up trouble.
He had deceived and tempted Jack several times, causing him to lose control and turn dark. Kamiyu was always on guard against him. Whenever Mephisto spoke without reason, nine times out of ten he was plotting something for his own benefit.
Now, under Kamiyu’s “accidental” questioning, Mephisto’s “resurrection conspiracy” was exposed.
Of course, Kamiyu did not want Mephisto to revive. Keeping him in a half-dead state was the best outcome for everyone.
If the Fear Emperor were completely dead but the Demon King were revived, she would be truly speechless—would this ever end? So Kamiyu would absolutely not help Mephisto succeed. Given his identity as the Demon King, once revived, he would surely unleash another storm of bloodshed.
No, even now, without being revived, he was already causing trouble everywhere. If he revived and fully recovered, he would undoubtedly bring significant destruction to the New World.
As a human, Kamiyu would resolutely thwart Mephisto’s schemes and plots.
In any case, Kamiyu would refuse to use the Altar of Lilith in the Fear Emperor Core Zone to build a Sanctuary. Rounding it off, Kamiyu had foiled another attempted conspiracy and seized Mephisto’s Tool of Misdeed, essentially acquiring the Altar of Lilith for free.
Helplessly, Mephisto had to quiet down again and plan his next target. So Kamiyu and Jack, after equipping their new gear, swiftly flew toward the Fear Emperor Core Trunk Zone, following the route projected by the Lens Projector.
Good, the plan begins. Meanwhile, on the other side, one of the rescue units composed of Frontline Team members had already made contact with the kidnapped new Players and began fighting the Ability Users escorting them.
Before engaging, the Captain of the rescue unit said, “Protect yourselves, hide your true strength. Our goal is to buy time for Lady Kamiyu and keep the Ability Users occupied here.”
“Yes!” dozens of members replied in unison.
Here, dozens of new Players, ragged and with their Armor shattered, shouted from inside special Vine Cages: “Look, everyone! Someone’s come to save us!”
“Who is it? Players from other cities or counties?”
“Great, we’re saved!”
“Brother Tai, hurry up and take them out! Some of us are injured and bleeding nonstop!”
“Shut up! Once I finish cutting them down, it’ll be your turn,” an Ability User kicked the Vine Cage.
“Who dares to rob us? Do you even know who we are?” another Ability User said.
“Of course we know, you’re just insects under that trash Fear Emperor.”
“Seeking death.” Over a dozen Ability Users charged forward, clashing with the Frontline Team members.
Initially, the Ability Users’ assault was extremely fierce, momentarily even “scattering” the Frontline Team.
One Ability User muttered to himself, “How come these people scatter as soon as we charge? They get kicked away with one kick. So weak, completely mismatched with the equipment they’re wearing. Carrying top-tier weapons, yet their skill level is this poor?”
It couldn’t understand, nor did it want to. Since they had the upper hand, they frantically attacked the Rescue Unit, driving them back step by step.
But strangely, after retreating just a couple of steps, they charged back again. Though seemingly at a disadvantage, not a single member was actually injured, fighting with remarkable tenacity.
“Not much strength, just another bunch of trash. Brothers, capture them all and offer them together to His Majesty Fear Emperor,” one Ability User said.
Immediately, more Ability Users surrounded them. The trapped new Players, seeing the Frontline Team members “falling into disadvantage,” frowned deeply. “Sigh, they can’t win. We have no hope.”
“It’s all because of that damn Tree Realm Descent Mission assigned by the Black Sphere. A purely deceptive mission. With our current strength, we can’t even handle Trash Mobs, let alone take on the Dungeon Boss?” A new Player angrily pounded the Vine Cage, deeply regretting participating in the Tree Realm Descent Mission.
“It’s over, it’s over. I finally became a Player, I don’t want to die so soon,” a new Player wailed.
Seeing the scales of Victory tipping in their favor, one Ability User said, “Daring to call His Majesty Fear Emperor trash? What kind of trash is your Master then? Dry trash or wet trash?”
One member, unable to bear the insult, stepped forward and shouted, “Do not insult our Lady Kamiyu. You’re seeking death.”
With that, he charged forward.
“Hey, don’t be impulsive. Continue the combat mission.” In front of everyone, the Rescue Unit Captain couldn’t loudly say to keep acting against the enemy.
Hearing the name Kamiyu, the entire scene fell silent. A single name alone was enough to intimidate the opposing side.
“Are you really Kamiyu’s subordinates?” one Ability User asked.
“Genuine as can be,” the member continued. “Besides her subordinates, who else could have everyone equipped with Ancestral Legendary Tier weapons and Armor?”
At a glance, these few dozen people all looked like elites, clad in at least five pieces of Ancestral Legendary Armor each, with weapons that were no less formidable. Clearly, they were experts.
“What? They’re actually Kamiyu’s subordinates?” “Oh no, Gang Boss, what do we do?” “I feel like if we don’t leave now, it’ll be too late.” The Ability Users, hearing the three syllables “Kamiyu,” were scared out of their wits, immediately shouting to Flee.
The Ability Users’ Leader hesitated for a moment, then said, “So they are Kamiyu’s subordinates. No wonder they’re so strong, fighting for so long without dying, unlike the trash in the cages.”
“Brothers, retreat.”
The Ability Users feared that Kamiyu might be nearby, ready to intercept them. If that happened, escape would be impossible. This Pink Hair killing star was capable of killing Fifth-Tier Hungry Ghost Shara and annihilating 300,000 Fruit Ability Users in one fell swoop. Her name had already spread among the Ability Users: if you encounter her, prioritize escape, and you won’t be punished afterward.
However, with Kamiyu nearby, could this group still manage to flee?
The new Player inside the Vine Cage wondered curiously—just what kind of person was Kamiyu?
Seeing the opponents beginning to flee, the Captain frowned and said, “Look what you’ve done.”
“They insulted Lady Kamiyu, so of course they had to be taught a lesson.”
“Forget it. Kill them all—that should also count as completing the mission to buy time.” The Captain charged forward swiftly.
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone inside the cage widened their eyes, utterly shocked.
