Kamiyu felt that skipping straight to the Dungeon Boss would be a waste. The earlier stages combined could yield 20 to 30 kilograms of Magic Crystal Ore, enough to craft several hundred Magic Bullets.
“Jumping ahead” like this felt like squandering opportunities. Moreover, when tackling a Keystone Dungeon, Level was crucial—the higher the Level, the easier it would be to Clear.
Previously, the fastest Clear was achieved by the Official Player Lei Yao, who succeeded at Level 20. Kamiyu figured she should at least reach Level 19 before attempting it.
A sudden idea struck her: with Jack, an expert at Pulling Aggro, by her side—a Tank class—she absolutely had to make the most of him, or it would be a waste.
She wondered if she could lure the Monsters into the Secret Passage to Kill them. Once aggro was drawn and a taunt Skill was used, the Aberrant Beasts would automatically pathfind and chase Jack.
Then, inside the Secret Passage, she could use the terrain to quickly dispatch the Monsters.
Action speaks louder than thought. Kamiyu boldly decided to test her new idea. She approached the hidden stone slab in the first stage and waved her hand.
“What?” Jack asked.
“Help me move this slab! What are you standing around for? Do you think my petite frame can move this?” Kamiyu retorted irritably.
Jack pursed his lips, unsheathed his greatsword, and pried open the coffin-sized stone slab.
Kamiyu immediately grabbed her Demon-Repelling Holy Flame and slipped inside. Her small stature allowed her to move swiftly in such cramped tunnels, but Jack’s bulky frame was another matter—he had to hunch over and crawl in.
“Will this method really work? I feel like you might shoot me,” Jack worriedly asked.
“Who told you to be so huge? After you pull aggro, just rush in and lie flat,” Kamiyu said, loading bullets into her Demon-Repelling Holy Flame with a crisp click.
After finding a good position inside the tunnel, Kamiyu turned and aimed the gun barrel toward the cave entrance.
“Whoa, don’t point that at me!” Jack’s Real World Mercenary instincts kicked in. Seeing the dark gun barrel aimed at him, he almost activated his Golden Body Skill.
He had witnessed the power of Kamiyu’s two guns—they were even more exaggerated than Real World grenade launchers or Tank cannons, bordering on the realm of science-fiction high-powered Weaponry.
“Challenging Roar!” Jack bellowed.
The Barbarian Warrior’s roar instantly echoed throughout the Valley of the Deathly Echo. Countless four-winged bats surged out from the thick fog in the sky, frenziedly diving to tear Jack to shreds.
Seeing that he had firmly drawn the aggro of the four-winged bats, Jack immediately dashed into the Secret Passage as planned.
“I’m coming in now,” Jack shouted.
“Just come in! Why do you have to make it sound so suggestive?” Kamiyu blushed as she spoke.
“Lie down,” she commanded.
Judging solely by their dialogue, it was easy for one’s imagination to run wild. In reality, however, they were locked in fierce combat inside the Instance Dungeon.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Gunshots rang out in rapid succession.
In the confined space, the sound of the Demon-Repelling Holy Flame was greatly amplified, and the muzzle flashes illuminated the entire Secret Passage.
Wave after wave of four-winged bats exploded into Blood Mist. Lying flat on the ground, Jack felt as though his back was being constantly “rained on”—except this rain was tinged with red, mixed with splatters of white and green fluids.
The blood of the four-winged bats continuously drenched his back, constantly granting him a 5x Defense Power buff.
Compared to the previous first stage that took over ten minutes to clear, now they finished off the monsters in less than two and a half minutes.
With every shot fired, Experience Points chimed incessantly, making it feel as if they had entered Xi Ai Fu’s Savior 3+1 room—where several players would enter iron cages or “dog holes,” and zombies would keep rushing in for the players to kill.
After one round, materials were fully stocked, and experience was maxed out.
“Whew, that’s satisfying,” she exhaled heavily.
Then, the two of them pressed their advantage, continuing to use this method to repeatedly clear the first, second, and third stages, before one-shotting the Chimera Boss in the Boss stage.
The further they progressed, the more proficient Kamiyu and Jack became with each other. They would flip over without needing to be told, lie down without needing a command—their cooperation was seamless.
Later on, Jack even grew bold enough to start going without clothes again, removing his armor and charging out completely naked, testing both Kamiyu’s and the monsters’ limits.
He was testing whether the monsters could hit him and whether Kamiyu could tolerate him.
His behavior gave Kamiyu a massive headache, as she had to divert part of her attention away from looking at him to focus on fighting the Aberrant Beasts.
“Why are you always naked? The Crimson Earth is so cold,” Kamiyu asked while gathering the dropped items and spoils of war.
“I’m training my resistance to the cold,” Jack gave a baffling answer.
As Jack saw Kamiyu’s confused expression and was about to explain further, Kamiyu seemed to realize something. She remembered how, back in the Black Sphere Room, Jack had held her tightly and muttered something about “Winnie” and other nonsensical things.
The clever Kamiyu understood that this was part of Jack’s past. Being “considerate,” she didn’t want to pry into others’ histories.
Seeing Kamiyu wave her hand dismissively, Jack suppressed his urge to confide and obediently retreated, ready to be the man protecting her from the shadows.
The two of them kept repeating their runs through this Valley of the Deathly Echo map. Every time they finished the Boss and stepped out of the Teleportation Array, they noticed that the sounds outside the Instance Dungeon were different.
“Have you noticed that the roars of the monsters inside are getting louder and more miserable?” Kamiyu cautiously asked.
“Exactly, the sounds have grown much louder. Every time we finish a run, they get even louder. Is there something wrong with this place?” Jack replied.
“But the Aberrant Beasts haven’t gotten stronger—their difficulty remains the same. As we level up and our Attack Power and other attributes improve, these Aberrant Beasts actually become easier to kill, and our speed increases,” Kamiyu analyzed.
“Well, I don’t know then,” Jack shrugged.
“Forget it, let’s keep going in until our Storage backpacks are full. Remember to use your Attribute Points after leveling up to increase backpack capacity,” Kamiyu reminded.
What they didn’t know was that the miserable roars of the Aberrant Beasts from the Valley of the Deathly Echo could be heard several kilometers away.
“Senior, what is that sound? It’s terrifying,” a Newbie Player asked.
“Damn, who’s Mob Grinding over at the Valley of the Deathly Echo and making the sounds so loud?” another Veteran Player wondered.
The squad leader, who was guiding newcomers, gaped in astonishment and exclaimed, “This is the special effect of the Dying Voice Valley Dungeon. Every time it’s cleared, the struggles and cries of the Aberrant Beasts that died gather at the valley entrance.
To make the sound this loud in such a short time, spreading for kilometers and still being audible—just who is grinding this dungeon?”
“Holy crap, you’ve got to be kidding me. Dying Voice Valley is a level 20 Hard dungeon, and half an hour ago the noise wasn’t nearly this loud.
To amplify the sound to this earth-shaking level within half an hour… could it be Lei Yao, at level 30, leading a team through the dungeon?” another veteran player remarked in amazement.
