Chapter 237 – The Chant of Summoning
Chapter 237 – The Chant of Summoning
“Miling—”
The heavenly chant, unlike its usual innocence, purity, and romance, was now filled with barely concealed agony, sounding like a heart-wrenching wail that intoxicated and shattered the soul.
At this moment, Little Hai’er felt as if her entire body had been filled with molten lava, sending waves of pain coursing through her limbs.
The sensation was too violent to be called a transformation, too torturous to be described as rebirth. It forced continuous pained moans from Little Hai’er, her tears soaking her cheeks, making her appear utterly pitiful.
The little girl truly felt her life was a tragedy.
From the moment she was born, she had never experienced a single good day. It seemed she had always been like this—constantly enduring suffering and torment.
She didn’t know how she came into this world, only that from her birth as a clueless newborn, everything in this world felt incompatible with her.
The humans she encountered either sought to slay or capture her upon sight.
Though the Phantom Demons she met inexplicably feared her, they were cruel toward other beings—bloodthirsty and terrifying—seeming completely different from herself.
Little Hai’er had tried living with other Phantom Demons, had even formed groups with them, but she always ended up fleeing in horror from their cruel bloodlust.
Thus, from the moment of her birth, Little Hai’er had been wandering alone—either struggling to survive or fleeing from pursuit and capture.
She herself had lost track of how long this life had persisted.
Fortunately, her timid nature prevented her from developing overly heavy thoughts or actions; otherwise, such an existence might have crushed her, driving her to extremes.
Of course, Little Hai’er had known sorrow and had grown weary of this life.
But for some reason, whenever such moments came, she couldn’t help but want to sing.
And after singing, her mood would lift, allowing her to persevere a little longer.
So Little Hai’er loved to sing, sometimes even raising her voice when she witnessed conflicts between humans and her kind, hoping her song might make them cease their strife and coexist peacefully.
Naturally, this made her an anomaly among her kind, an enemy to humans, and an irreplaceable treasure to certain ambitious individuals. No matter how she yearned for peace and tranquility, she could never stop running.
Was such a life not tragic?
Recalling her past, for a fleeting moment, Little Hai’er nearly succumbed to the thought, “Why not just give up?”
Had she truly embraced this resignation, the surging power within her would have instantly shattered her petite form, marking the failure of this evolution and the disappearance of an extraordinary Phantom Demon from this world.
Had this been months earlier, Little Hai’er would have done exactly that—wearily ending her arduous life.
But now—
“Miling—”
Two figures involuntarily surfaced in Little Hai’er’s mind.
A man and a woman. They are humans, just like the rest, who view Phantom Demons as natural enemies, hunted by Phantom Demons, and thus have no choice but to rise up in resistance, seeing even fellow Phantom Demons like herself as adversaries.
She still remembers their first encounter—when she had been captured by a Suspicious Group and seized the chaos to escape. Those two suddenly appeared, intercepting the bad guys who intended to capture her.
That experience left a deep impression on Little Hai’er.
Because it was the first time in her life she had ever received help, that someone had come to her aid.
They had no intention of capturing her, nor did they attack her, instead allowing her to leave freely.
Such an unprecedented event greatly astonished Little Hai’er, making her halt her frantic escape and stay behind. She even ended up saving their lives when they faced danger.
Afterward, Little Hai’er had no choice but to leave.
There was no other way—she was genuinely worried that once the enemies were gone, those two would turn on her, just like others had before.
In her entire life, she had only encountered these two people who never laid a hand on her.
The little girl cherished this experience dearly and didn’t want this beautiful memory to be shattered, so she chose to leave.
However, the little girl never expected that when they met again, not only did they not attack her, but they also saved her.
Although the male of the two was quite frightening—either intimidating her or using inexplicable powers to make her chest ache terribly, preventing her from escaping—the female treated her very kindly, constantly caring for her, giving her a name, and even preparing a huge pool for her to play in.
And though the male seemed intimidating, he also gave her incredibly valuable treasures, helping her recover from weakness, healing her injuries, and providing her with an opportunity for rapid growth.
Even though he wasn’t gentle or considerate, and often scared and bullied her, Little Hai’er could still clearly sense that he held no hostility or malice toward her—and her alone.
Because of this, the time she spent by his side was truly the most comfortable period of her life.
When she was hungry, someone immediately gave her food; when she was tired, she could sleep at any time without worrying about being attacked in her dreams. Most importantly, she no longer had to wander aimlessly—she was no longer alone, but had someone accompanying her, playing with her.
If only such days could last forever…
At this thought, Little Hai’er couldn’t help but feel a wave of sorrow.
An intense reluctance made it impossible for her to firmly decide to give up.
She was just a child after all. No matter how harsh or difficult life had been, she still held attachments to the world and yearned for beauty.
“Miling—”
The Mermaid Girl could only continuously let out melodic cries, hoping the sound would ride the wind and reach the ears of those two.
For no other reason than to make them aware that she still existed, that she hadn’t disappeared.
“Thump-thump—”
Suddenly, Little Hai’er felt a throbbing in her chest.
The intense pulsation drew a sliver of her consciousness from the endless pain, directing it toward her chest—or rather, the source of the throbbing: her heart.
“Thump-thump— thump-thump— thump-thump—”
The pulsations grew increasingly stronger, as if some inexplicable force was suppressing the blood flowing through her heart, making it less violent. It was because of this that Little Hai’er clearly felt the pain in her body lessen significantly, leaving her both astonished and surprised.
Soon, Little Hai’er noticed something.
The reason for this phenomenon was the presence of an “unwanted foreign object” in her heart—one she had originally disliked.
The small, glowing spear, which should have bound her like a shackle, was now shimmering faintly within her heart.
Surges of Spirit Power flowed from it, suppressing the rampaging magic power within Little Hai’er’s body. Just as Spirit Art countered Phantom Demons, it gradually restrained the uncontrollable force in her Bloodline, allowing the Blood Qi to slowly stabilize.
This enabled Little Hai’er to gradually endure the explosive power of her Bloodline during evolution.
This phenomenon made Little Hai’er feel as if she had realized something.
“Miling—”
The Mermaid Girl’s chant resounded once more.
This time, however, it was filled with delight.
……
“Hmm?”
Mo Leng, who had been anxiously observing Little Hai’er’s evolution, suddenly heard an unusual noise, forcing him to shift his attention away from her.
“What is that sound?”
Mo Leng frowned deeply.
The sound that emerged in such a setting was far too abrupt and unsettling.
After all, this was a dangerous wilderness zone.
How could there possibly be the sound of a motorcycle engine starting in a place like this?
Just as Mo Leng was pondering this, another sound abruptly erupted.
“Holy shit!”
Among the Mo Family disciples surrounding the area, one suddenly let out a terrified curse, his voice filled with horror.
The panicked scream instantly drew everyone’s attention.
Only then did the crowd notice that, in one corner of the encirclement, a Family disciple was being tightly embraced by a figure that had seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
That disciple was screaming in agony.
“Brother!? How are you here!? Weren’t you dead!?”
The person shrieked in a manner unbecoming of a man, utterly terrified.
The one holding him—though Mo Leng might not have recognized him—was familiar to many of the Mo Family disciples present.
“Didn’t that guy die in the Xu Family Young Miss’s villa!?”
“How could he be here!?”
“Holy shit! It’s a ghost!”
Many joined in with frightened screams.
The person clutching the Mo Family disciple was unmistakably a corpse—drenched in blood, devoid of any Life Qi, its face rigid and lifeless.
It was the very corpse of the Mo Family member who had been whipped by the “Falling Leaves Return to Roots” leather whip and had traced its way here.
His appearance meant one thing.
The Mo Family’s Grim Reaper had arrived.
“Vroom—!”
Accompanied by the roaring engine, an armed motorcycle sped forth, kicking up clouds of dust as it charged ahead.
The unease in Mo Leng’s heart finally erupted.
“Stop that vehicle!”
Without hesitation, Mo Leng issued the order.
The surrounding Mo Family disciples reacted swiftly, drawing their weapons one after another and blocking the motorcycle’s path.
However, the motorcycle was clearly no ordinary vehicle. Seeing so many people blocking its way, it suddenly leaped into the air, soaring over the heads of the Mo Family disciples and heading straight toward Little Hai’er’s location.
“Don’t even think about it!”
Seeing this, Mo Leng naturally would not stand idly by.In an instant, the Mo Family Head transformed into a bullet-like projectile, launching himself into the air with astonishing speed as he charged toward the motorcycle and threw a powerful punch.
The force behind that punch was remarkable, generating a distinct Qi explosion sound.
Unfortunately…
“Boom—!”
Amidst the dull impact, Mo Leng was sent flying backward from mid-air, crashing violently onto the ground.
From the motorcycle, a figure leaped out and similarly threw a punch, sending Mo Leng flying.
