Chapter 34 – The Long-Awaited Thing
Chapter 34 – The Long-Awaited Thing
Demon Hunter Academy, Male Dormitory.
By this hour, no matter how anxious or tense one felt, many had begun to fall asleep.
Tomorrow marked the expedition. Although the students’ tasks were likely to be relatively simple, many still wanted to fully rest and recharge to face the upcoming battle.
Thus, the brightly lit scene when Su Ming left had noticeably diminished. Most rooms had darkened, with only a few still holding out.
And Su Ming’s dormitory was clearly not among those still lit.
When Su Ming returned to the dormitory, the boisterous Lei Hao was, unsurprisingly, already snoring thunderously. Even Ye Bai had fallen asleep after tossing and turning.
Su Ming glanced at these two troublemaker friends, then paid them no further mind. He climbed directly into bed and burrowed under the covers.
However, Su Ming had no intention of sleeping just yet.
He closed his eyes, opened the mall interface in his mind, and focused on the diamond-shaped crystal pattern in the lower right corner.
Beside this pattern was a string of numbers—”147365″.
Yes!
After tossing all the obtained extraordinary items into the mall, Su Ming had acquired over 140,000 crystal chips!
Gazing at this number, which he had never dared to imagine before, Su Ming felt a surge of emotion in his heart.
It couldn’t be helped.
147,365 crystal chips—calculated at 1,000 chips per package—meant a full 147 packages!
“In the year since I came to this world, have I even opened this many packages in total?”
Su Ming wasn’t sure if all the packages he had opened before added up to this number.
After all, he had never kept track. Every time he had enough chips, he couldn’t resist opening packages right away.
When something was tied to his own strength, restraining his impulses was nearly impossible.
So, over the past year, Su Ming didn’t know if the total packages he had opened reached this number, but he was certain he had never opened more than two packages at once.
This time, however, he wasn’t opening just one or two packages—but a full 147!
That’s right, Su Ming planned to spend all his crystal chips!
“Save chips? Restrain my impulses? Screw that!”
Su Ming urgently needed this wave of packages to enrich his collection and boost his strength as quickly as possible.
In such a situation, asking him to control himself was simply impossible.
“Whoosh!”
Instantly, packages began appearing one after another in Su Ming’s backpack, as if he could hear a rustling sound.
In that moment, Su Ming didn’t hesitate in the slightest. With a grand gesture, he spent all 140,000-plus crystal chips in one go.
As the “147365” chip count dwindled to a rather pitiful “365,” 147 packages filled Su Ming’s backpack to the brim.
Looking at this pile of packages, Su Ming couldn’t help but rub his hands together in excitement.
“Should I wash my hands, light some incense, and cleanse myself of all this bad luck before opening them?”
Su Ming considered this but immediately dismissed the thought.
They say fate can’t be changed by superstition. Given how he’d been tormented by the two Academy Beauties lately, nearly buried alive by misfortune, Su Ming refused to believe his luck could get any worse.”Then let’s just open it!”
It turned out that Su Ming was quite decisive. When it came to many things, he would act immediately without delay.
Thus, Su Ming opened the first package.
In the past, when Su Ming opened packages, he would meticulously take out each item one by one.
But this time, perhaps because he was feeling flush or perhaps because he knew there were over a hundred more packages to open, his method was slightly more aggressive—he simply dumped out all the contents of the package at once.
To Su Ming’s delight, from this first package alone, he pulled out a total of five items.
A package could randomly yield 3 to 5 items, with a minimum of three and a maximum of five. For Su Ming to get the maximum five items right from the first package was indeed a pleasant, albeit small, surprise.
“Starting off with a bang!”
With a thrilled heart, Su Ming began examining the items, but that little bit of excitement quickly faded.
Of these five items, three were materials from lower-level Phantom Demons, one was an alchemical tool with limited use, and the last was a potion.
Dragon Blood Potion (Fake): An alchemical potion crafted by mimicking the legendary Dragon’s essence. When consumed by a Hunter, it grants power comparable to that of a Dragon species for a short period.
Out of the five items, only this Dragon Blood Potion seemed somewhat noteworthy, yet it was merely a “fake” and not the genuine article, giving Su Ming the feeling that his first attempt had only yielded the bare minimum.
“Whatever, I have plenty of packages this time anyway.”
Su Ming’s emotions were quite mixed.
Under normal circumstances, when he had to work hard just to earn enough chips to open a single package, such a mediocre result would have infuriated him to no end.
“Stay calm… stay calm…”
Su Ming adjusted his mindset and continued opening packages.
What followed was a rollercoaster of emotions.
At times, Su Ming would uncover genuinely good items, making him beam with joy.
At other times, he would pull out pieces reminiscent of the “world-famous painting” from the first package, leaving him grumbling and cursing.
But as the saying goes, quantity leads to quality. As he opened package after package, Su Ming indeed uncovered many treasures that would cause a huge stir in the outside world.
For instance, in the twelfth package, Su Ming found a vial of high-level Phantom Demon blood. If the Hunter Families were to learn of this, they would undoubtedly fight tooth and nail for it.
Unfortunately, Su Ming already possessed a vial of Nightmare Species blood. This Phantom Demon blood was merely from a Hazardous Species. Though it delighted him, it was nothing extraordinary, so he could only store it in his backpack for the time being.
Another example: in the thirty-seventh package, Su Ming uncovered another Advanced Spirit Art.
Vast Karma Brahma Vista (Eighty-One Forms): An Advanced Spirit Art that alters celestial phenomena, allowing the user to manipulate the power of weather. Whether it be storms, thunderstorms, or even blizzards, all can be summoned at will.
Without a doubt, this was yet another overwhelmingly powerful Spirit Art.
Just reading the literal description of this Spirit Art filled Su Ming with an urge to try it out immediately and see if he could master this Spell Formula.
Of course, even if Su Ming did manage to learn a Spirit Art of this Rank, it would likely be the same as with [Mirror Heaven and Earth Shift]—he wouldn’t have enough Spirit Power to cast it.
But Su Ming still wanted to give it a try.
This round of package openings had also yielded many valuable items that could boost his Spirit Power.Spirit Power (Small): Extremely pure, unowned Spirit Power. When integrated into the body, it slightly increases the amount of Spirit Power with no side effects.
Spirit Power (Medium): Extremely pure, unowned Spirit Power. When integrated into the body, it moderately increases the amount of Spirit Power with no side effects.
Spirit Power (Large): Extremely pure, unowned Spirit Power. When integrated into the body, it greatly increases the amount of Spirit Power with no side effects.
Su Ming had actually managed to obtain quite a few such valuable items that could enhance his own Spirit Power this time.
Naturally, Su Ming used all of them on himself immediately.
Thanks to this, he could clearly feel the Spirit Power within his body surging wildly, now several times greater than before.
Su Ming believed that by the time this unpacking session ended, his Spirit Power would have increased by at least tenfold.
With this, it should somewhat meet the requirements for using Advanced Spirit Art, right?
“I must find an opportunity to test it later.”
Having made this decision, Su Ming continued unpacking.
The items that came afterward hardly stirred his emotions.
It wasn’t that there were no good items, but with top-tier treasures like high-grade Phantom Demon blood and the Eighty-One Styles already obtained, even if more good items appeared, Su Ming wouldn’t get too excited.
However, when he reached the sixty-sixth package, Su Ming unpacked a weapon specifically for Hunters, which gave him quite a pleasant surprise.
But he couldn’t use this weapon yet.
Thus, Su Ming had no choice but to store it at the bottom of his backpack, adding to his collection.
During this process, Su Ming continued unpacking and obtained various Spirit Arts.
There were low-sequence Spirit Arts and some mid-sequence Intermediate Spirit Arts, which were still somewhat useful to Su Ming.
Some Spirit Arts, Su Ming could grasp almost at a glance, and some were even duplicates, making him complain about how unfair it was.
It wasn’t until the one hundred and eighteenth package that a sudden, massive surprise nearly made him jump out of his skin.
It was a bottle of alchemical potion.
A bottle Su Ming had been waiting for, something he had long desired but never managed to obtain.
Verdant Potion: An adaptogen that can extremely significantly enhance the user’s adaptability.
At first glance, this alchemical potion seemed unremarkable, and its description was equally plain.
However, Su Ming knew very well that for many people, such a potion was even more precious than the Phantom Demon Potion.
There were two reasons for this.
One was its rarity.
To concoct such a potion, an extremely rare material was required—a material so scarce that it was considered rare even in the Spirit Demon Abyss, let alone in the present world, where it might not appear even once in decades.
The other was its effect—”extremely significantly enhancing the user’s adaptability.”
What did this mean?
“It means that if you have this potion when consuming the Phantom Demon Potion, it can greatly increase your adaptability and compatibility with Phantom Demon blood!”
In other words, this adaptogen could minimize the probability of failure when consuming the Phantom Demon Potion.
This was exactly what Su Ming had been waiting for!The reason he hadn’t used that Nightmare Species blood was twofold: first, he hadn’t yet refined it into a Phantom Demon Potion, and second, he was concerned about the success rate of consumption.
As a Sorcerer, the probability of successfully adapting to a Phantom Demon Potion was already abysmally low, let alone the potion Su Ming intended to consume—one made from the blood of a Nightmare Species, a higher-tier Phantom Demon. The success rate plummeted even further.
Therefore, Su Ming had been waiting, hoping to obtain an Extraordinary Item from his package that could increase the success rate of consuming the Phantom Demon Potion.
Now, Su Ming had finally gotten what he was waiting for.
“It seems the plan to refine the Phantom Demon Potion can be put on the agenda.”
Su Ming was ecstatic and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“Holy shit!”
“Are you trying to scare someone to death in the middle of the night!?”
Next door, Lei Hao and Ye Bai were jolted awake and started cursing.
