Chapter 45 – Little Fox
Chapter 45 – Little Fox
“Could there really be ghosts?”
Qin Yang stood in the corridor, puzzled and confused. As the cold night wind blew, he felt an even chillier sensation running down his spine.
Piercing laughter echoed through the hallway, bouncing off the walls and creating overlapping reverberations that repeated endlessly, sounding utterly terrifying.
It was as if some evil entity had taken residence in the corridor.
“Wait, I should believe in science!”
Qin Yang steadied his mind, suddenly feeling some regret. If only he had brought a sickle and hammer with him earlier.
Then he could throw a couple copies of “The Radiance of the Human Stars” at it to suppress the past…
Who cares what kind of spirit it is?
Instant elimination!
Just as Qin Yang was thinking this, a system notification sounded in his mind.
“Ding! Detected presence of Emperor-Level Star Beast Nine-Tailed Fox. Host please evacuate immediately. Request Empress disciple to come subdue it!”
“Nine-Tailed Fox?”
Hearing the system’s prompt, Qin Yang was immediately overjoyed.
Here we go again!
The damn system is going crazy again!
This time it’s actually a Nine-Tailed Fox?
This is a creature from mythological legends.
Born with nine tails, living for millennia, capable of gathering all things’ Spiritual Energy for its own use – a heaven-defying creature.
And now it actually appears here?
“Wait,”
Qin Yang reconsidered. Judging by the damn system’s usual behavior…
Last time, even a cockroach spider could become a Beast Emperor.
So this Nine-Tailed Fox must be downgraded too.
Perhaps.
It might just be a little fox that can only go “ao ao”!
However.
This isn’t absolutely certain.
Like the previous Blood Demon was a counterexample – even now it remains an extremely dangerous existence. Even with the cooperation of Jianghai City’s three Innate Realm experts, they still couldn’t suppress it.
“I’d better play it safe.”
Thinking this, Qin Yang didn’t dare be careless. He released Star Power to cover the building for perception.
After a short while, he identified the source of the Star Power fluctuations.
The commotion was coming from the seventh floor.
And the fluctuations weren’t particularly strong either.
Judging by this state, the opponent’s strength at most couldn’t exceed the Grandmaster Realm, making it completely insignificant before him.
“This should be secure.”
Above Grandmaster, it’s one-for-one. Below Grandmaster, he’s invincible.
Thinking this.
Qin Yang set aside his doubts and swaggered up the stairs, stomping loudly as he headed to the seventh floor.
………….
A moment later.
At the corner of the seventh floor.
The ceiling’s fluorescent light flickered on and off, while an eerie wind howled through the corridor.
A female ghost in plain white clothes stood under the light, her hair flowing like a waterfall. Laughter emerged from her throat, resembling an infant’s cry.
And right at this woman’s feet.
Lay a middle-aged woman who had fainted from fright, with fruits and vegetables from her grocery basket scattered across the floor, her face deathly pale.
“The seventh one.”
The female ghost stared at the woman on the ground, murmuring as she counted. She bent over, supporting herself on all fours.
The next moment.
Green smoke drifted upward.
Her body suddenly shrank, the white clothes dissipated, transforming into a young White Fox instead. Its smooth fur was silver-white like snow, with three fluffy large tails standing upright.
Its round fox eyes darted around, flashing with cunning, full of expression as it looked about.
As a wild fox wandering the wilderness, it deeply understood how difficult it was to transform into human form.
Relying solely on absorbing Star Power from the sky was far from enough.
Some animals were lucky enough to encounter spiritual fruit opportunities, fortunately gaining the chance to transform, becoming human in one go. But for wild creatures like her with insufficient luck, they could spend their entire lives without ever encountering such opportunities.
But fortunately, while heaven derives forty-nine, one escapes – everything in creation always has a way out.And absorbing the spiritual energy of humans was one of the methods for transformation.
The fox clan gathers energy through their tails—one transforms into two, two into three… until nine becomes the ultimate, achieving true immortality.
During these days, it had been continuously stealing the essence of residents in the hallway, gradually drawing closer to this goal.
“Almost at four tails now.”
White Fox glanced back at her three fluffy tails, her eyes filled with affection.
She gleefully approached the middle-aged woman, nudged her hand, and prepared to continue absorbing essence.
Suddenly!
An unfamiliar voice echoed in the hallway.
“So it really is a little fox.”
The sudden male voice, as if appearing out of thin air, startled White Fox greatly.
Is there someone else in the hallway?
How did I not sense them!?
Her heart raced, her small fox body trembling as she sharply turned around, baring her teeth toward the source of the sound.
Qin Yang emerged from the hallway entrance, still wearing his unremoved pajamas and slippers, like a resident who happened to be passing by.
“Another human?”
Seeing this, White Fox thought in confusion, her round little eyes full of doubt.
It was 3 a.m.
Why would anyone be out for a stroll?
And how did he evade my perception?!
Too many questions remained unanswered. White Fox shook her small head and instinctively activated her magic.
The next moment.
Poof!
Green smoke rose again, concealing her true form.
She transformed once more into a terrifying female ghost, drifting through the hallway.
Dressed in plain white like snow, her face covered in festering flesh with glimpses of stark white bone, blood continuously seeped from her cheeks.
Under the dim hallway light, she looked like a vengeful spirit straight out of a horror movie, utterly horrifying.
Any normal human would have been scared into incontinence or fainting on the spot.
However.
Qin Yang didn’t run. Instead, he crossed his arms with interest, staying put and staring directly at the female ghost.
His expression remained calm.
As if to say…
I’ll just quietly watch you perform.
“…”
For a moment, the atmosphere grew awkward.
White Fox and Qin Yang stared at each other, neither moving.
As time passed, it was White Fox who began to feel creeped out…
Why… isn’t this human running?!
Am I not terrifying enough?
Puzzled, White Fox gritted her teeth and released her illusion once more.
The next moment.
In Qin Yang’s vision, the hallway surroundings suddenly changed.
The walls peeled away, revealing countless holes from which pale hands and feet stretched out, swaying and accompanied by piercing screams.
Bathed in these horrifying scenes, Qin Yang remained composed, releasing his True Essence to probe his surroundings and quickly understanding everything.
There were no hands or feet.
He was still in the hallway, having gone nowhere.
Everything was merely an illusion…
This nine-tailed fox appeared strong on the surface.
But in reality, it was all bark and no bite, entirely fabricated.
Its true strength was insignificant, so it could only rely on such intimidating methods to survive.
Thinking this, Qin Yang stood his ground even more steadily, silently appreciating White Fox’s enchanting performance.
From seductive skeletons to mountains of corpses and seas of blood, to the midnight parade of a hundred ghosts…Various terrifying illusions swept over, yet Qin Yang watched with keen interest.
Two minutes later.
White Fox stared at the completely unfazed Qin Yang and finally couldn’t hold back anymore. With a bewildered expression, she asked:
“Why aren’t you afraid?”
Qin Yang suddenly looked surprised: “So you’re actually a talking fox.”
