Chapter 5 – Bitten by a Spider? Will I Become Spider-Man?

Chapter 5 – Bitten by a Spider? Will I Become Spider-Man?

Remembering the benefits gained from squashing the “Immortal Cockroach” last time, Qin Yang reluctantly searched the area thoroughly once more.

After a while, Qin Yang returned to his seat dejectedly.

He had scoured the entire Library Sector 1 and Sector 2 but only managed to kill two unlucky flies in the corner.

Yet this didn’t trigger any system rewards.

Ultimately, Qin Yang could only conclude that this absurd system was spouting nonsense again.

How could a Beast Emperor appear in the library?

What is a Beast Emperor?

It’s an existence even more terrifying than a Beast King!

In terms of strength, a Beast Emperor is a Star Beast powerful enough to rival human Grandmaster Experts.

If there really were a Beast Emperor in this library, no one here would escape alive.

Thinking this, Qin Yang immediately lost interest in dealing with this stupid system.

If there truly were a Beast Emperor, with his current strength, he wouldn’t be able to escape anyway.

The more Qin Yang thought about it, the more frustrated he became – why did he end up with such an unreliable system?

“Ding! Beast Emperor detected. Host, why aren’t you fleeing? Do you have a death wish?”

“With your current strength, you’re no match for a Beast Emperor!”

“Host, don’t overestimate your abilities and throw your life away for nothing!”

Seeing that Qin Yang wasn’t taking action, the system seemed to grow anxious.

It kept urging him repeatedly, even sounding somewhat frustrated at his lack of initiative.

“F*cking idiot…”

Qin Yang rolled his eyes, unable to stop himself from cursing inwardly.

With all this disturbance from the system, he lost all interest in reading and directly closed the Seven-Star Footwork Manual.

As Qin Yang closed the book, the small purple spider hanging above him flashed a bloody red light in its eyes, then disappeared along its slender thread into the ceiling.

“Finally quieted down…”

After stepping outside for a cigarette, the system notifications finally stopped, and Qin Yang breathed a sigh of relief.

If that damn system kept nagging, he would truly go crazy.

Time flew by, and it was soon noon.

Qin Yang headed straight for the cafeteria.

Those who aren’t enthusiastic about eating must have something wrong with their brains.

As a dedicated food enthusiast, Qin Yang was usually among the first to arrive at the cafeteria.

“Xia He actually didn’t come to work all day.”

“Looks like he really had a wild time last night…”

Even by the end of the workday, Qin Yang still hadn’t seen any sign of Xia He.

The next morning, Xia He finally appeared.

“What happened to you? Did someone steal your kidney?”

Looking at Xia He limping in, Qin Yang couldn’t help but ask.

Did this guy fall for a honey trap last night?

Xia He looked utterly defeated: “Don’t even ask. I’ve got the worst luck in the world.”

Then Xia He explained why he had skipped work yesterday.

The night before last, Xia He had indeed gone to Platinum Ocean and called for some pretty girls.

But before he could enjoy himself, the Star Martial Police Department happened to raid the place for prostitution.

He spent the night in jail, and only when his father intervened the next day was he bailed out.

After returning home, his father pulled out his Seven Wolves belt and gave Xia He a taste of what profound paternal love feels like.

“My dad really went all out – he almost beat me to death!” Xia He grimaced, looking thoroughly miserable.

“The greater the love, the stricter the discipline…”

While Qin Yang offered comfort verbally, he secretly thought: “If I were your dad, I’d have beaten you even harder!”The incident with Xia He was merely a small episode in Qin Yang’s laid-back library life.

Afterward, Qin Yang’s days resumed their usual tranquility as before.

He went to work, read books, ate diligently, and practiced martial arts after work.

He was the very picture of self-discipline!

…………

One day, Qin Yang was reading in Sector 1 under his jurisdiction.

He held a book titled “Star Beast Compendium” in his hands.

The birth of Star Beasts, much like humans, originated from ordinary animals that absorbed Star Power, activating certain bloodlines within them, undergoing metamorphosis, and thus gaining various peculiar abilities.

These abilities were bizarre and varied greatly in strength.

There were terrifying Star Beasts born with control over supernatural forces like wind, fire, thunder, and lightning.

Some Star Beasts could even shapeshift into human form, possessing high intelligence and lurking within human society.

What humans feared most were the powerful Star Beasts with devastating destructive capabilities and violent temperaments.

Whenever such Star Beasts appeared in the human world, they inevitably caused disasters.

If Star Beasts of the level of Beast Kings or Beast Emperors emerged, unless experts of the Innate Realm or Grandmasters intervened, even human firearms would be powerless against these terrifying beings.

“Hey, uncle, are you okay?”

“What’s wrong with you?”

“There’s a spi…der…”

Thud!

“Qin Yang, come quick!”

Just as Qin Yang was immersed in the world of his book, Xia He’s panicked voice suddenly came from the neighboring Sector 2.

What’s this guy up to again?

Qin Yang frowned, then tossed his book aside and hurried over to Sector 2.

“Uncle, how are you?”

He saw a middle-aged man collapsed on the floor, with Xia He crouched beside him, asking helplessly and at a loss.

Qin Yang moved closer and noticed the man’s face had turned purple, foam was dribbling from his mouth, and his whole body was convulsing uncontrollably.

Was he having a seizure?

Epilepsy?

“Spi…der…”

The middle-aged man managed to utter just one word before passing out completely.

Spider?

Qin Yang was taken aback, then his gaze sharpened as he looked at the man’s neck.

There, clearly visible, was a blackish-purple patch that looked rather alarming.

Could it be a venomous spider bite?

Will the uncle turn into Spider-Man?

“Quit standing there—go call an ambulance!”

With a life at stake, there was no time for hesitation. Qin Yang kicked the dazed Xia He into action, then alerted the library security.

Shortly after, an ambulance arrived and transported the unfortunate man to the hospital.

Later, several security personnel came to Sector 2 to inquire about the details.

“I’m not sure either. He was reading over there, perfectly fine one moment, then suddenly started convulsing and foaming at the mouth… it nearly scared me to death.”

Xia He explained to the security staff with a troubled expression.

“Isn’t there any surveillance?”

Qin Yang couldn’t help but interject.

The security captain’s face darkened. “The spot where he was sitting happens to be a blind spot for the cameras.”

He could only pray inwardly that this incident had nothing to do with the library.

Otherwise, if the library management held him accountable, his position as security captain would be on the line.

“Qin Yang, you don’t think the uncle’s going to kick the bucket, do you?”

Xia He looked genuinely shaken, clearly still rattled by the man’s sudden collapse. The incident occurred within his jurisdiction, and if something went wrong, he would likely be held responsible, possibly even dismissed by the Library.

“Who am I supposed to ask if not you?”

“He was on your turf when it happened.”

Qin Yang rolled his eyes, but his gaze swept across the Library’s ceiling.

A spider?

Had the old man misseen things, or had he actually been bitten by a spider?
