Duels are the means the Goddess granted humanity for settling matters on which neither side will yield. They are not fought between individuals alone — at times nations too have met in a duel, each staking its prestige on the outcome.

Duelists are those who fight with Masquerade, the technique the Goddess bestowed: sometimes for their own honor, sometimes as proxies for those who cannot fight, sometimes as representatives of their country.
