Chapter 52 – The Saintess Parade as Seen by Rudy

Oh no.

I nearly bumped into someone passing by.

“Professor Alf, the capital is really crowded, huh?”

“Don’t get lost now, Rudy. The meeting spot is just up ahead.”

Professor Alf is my fire magic teacher.

It’s been a few months since I left my small village on the frontier.

When I arrived in the capital, I asked the gate guards to fetch my professor all the way to the outer wall gate.

I’m glad he came.

I’d really get lost otherwise.

Thanks to Professor Alf’s introduction, I’m going to be boarding at his master’s place in the capital while training to become a magic teacher.

The capital we finally reached was buzzing with festive energy. Apparently, there’s going to be a grand parade tomorrow to unveil the new Saintess.

I had no idea.

“Alf!”

In front of an old magic tool shop, a plump elderly man was waving at us through the crowd.

“Professor!”

We hurried over to the man and ducked into a side alley to escape the throng.

“Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day. This is my student Rudy, the one I mentioned the other day. Rudy, this is my master, Professor Onyx.”

“I’m Rudy. Nice to meet you!”

“Good to meet you too. You made it just in time for the parade—what luck.”

Professor Onyx seemed incredibly kind, with a refined air about him.

As expected of the big city.

The people and the streets are all so polished.

“So a new Saintess has been born. We’ll be seeing her face around a lot more from now on.”

“She’s the same age as me. I had no clue.”

“I was totally in the dark too. Caught me by surprise.”

Both Professor Onyx and Professor Alf were thrilled about the Saintess’s emergence.

Of course they were. It had been decades since the last one.

Rumors were that the elderly Saintess was about to retire anyway.

The city had made huge advances in pharmacology—even highly effective recovery potions were being developed—but having a Saintess around was still a beacon of hope.

“Today, I figured we’d shop for the supplies Rudy needs for his studies.”

At that old magic tool shop from earlier, Professor Onyx recommended several useful items.

Once our shopping was done, we parted ways with Professor Alf and headed to Professor Onyx’s estate.

“I’ll be in your care starting today.”

“Make yourself at home. Use whatever you like.”

He occasionally put up his disciples like this, so he seemed used to having company.

“You’ve had a long trip. Get some early rest tonight.”

“Yes, sir.”

I took a quick bath, gave my new room another look—knowing this was home now—and slipped into bed.

I can unpack tomorrow.

Man, the capital really is an amazing city.

Early the next morning, Professor Alf came by the estate to take me to see the parade.

“What a crowd.”

“Yeah, incredible.”

“Right?”

People had poured in from nearby towns, and the capital was overflowing with them.

The main boulevard was lined with stalls, street performers, bards singing and dancing.

Paved roads and stunning cityscapes.

I was overwhelmed by the total contrast to my frontier village.

“For a guy like me from some backwater village, this feels like another world.”

“Haha. It’s not usually this lively. Today it’s a festival, though.”

We managed to snag a spot with a good view of the parade route and waited for the Saintess, hearts pounding.

As the cheers gradually drew closer, my pulse started racing.

The lead Holy Knights passed by first. What caught my eye next were petals dancing through the air.

Then came shimmering rainbow specks of light raining down on the Saintess.

Her slender shoulders and delicate white nape looked so fragile. Her beige hair, done up in a half-up style, sparkled brilliantly.

Surrounded by countless Holy Knights, riding in an open-top luxurious carriage beside the Pope, she smiled gracefully—like a goddess incarnate.

Ah, what beauty… what breathtaking beauty…

For the first time in my life, I felt a profound emotion beyond words.

“Whoa!”

When the Saintess raised her hand toward us, a gentle warmth spread across my back, and my body suddenly felt light.

She had cast fatigue recovery magic on all of us.

What mana capacity… it’s on another level entirely.

Is this what a Saintess is?

No wonder the people are going wild.

“Professor…”

“Yeah. First time seeing the real thing, but she’s in a league of her own.”

“It’s overwhelming.”

Even the professors were entranced by the Saintess.

The cheers faded into the distance, but for a while, none of us could move.
