Chapter 66 – From Master to Disciple
Chapter 66 – From Master to Disciple
At the request completion counter, unlike usual, we were told to “Please wait a moment” and left hanging.
“Was it suspicious, selling those herbs every time?”
“Who knows? Maybe we profited a bit too much. It’s kinda nagging at me.”
I kinda regretted not consulting Master first.
Having been raised in the church, I’m clueless about common sense, and Ted’s a young master type, so he’s even more out of touch.
Putting our worries aside, the smiling receptionist handed back our guild cards.
“Congratulations. You’ve both been promoted to E-rank.”
““Eh?”“
We couldn’t help glancing at each other and bursting into laughter.
Pfft. What was all that worry about?
“Yay!” “We did it!”
We clapped our hands together in a high-five.
Woo-hoo. Yes!
“Now, please check your guild cards.”
We peered intently at the guild cards she held out.
Confirming the big “E” stamped there, I traced it with my finger and grinned like an idiot.
“Looks good.” “Same here.”
Ufufu.
I want to share the joy with everyone.
Starting with Master.
“Let’s go report to Master.”
“Yeah.”
We slipped around to the back of the guild, right in the middle of break time. The kids were lounging around separately.
“Hey! You two, perfect timing.”
“Master!”
Master stood up, brushed the dirt off his clothes with a few pats, and ambled over to us.
“Was gonna give this to Marie.”
It was a small strap-like accessory made from a horned rabbit’s horn.
“Guild master handed me the materials from that baby rabbit you took down. Well… y’know. It’s an adventurer tradition—from master to disciple. Here, take it already.”
Master looked super embarrassed, shoving the strap into my hand all gruff-like on purpose.
“Master just called me his disciple for the first time… What do I do?! I’m so happy! Thank you! This is moving!”
What is this? Tears are welling up.
From master to disciple.
He said it himself for the first time—called me his disciple!
I clutched the strap tight and thanked him over and over.
“It’s standard to attach accessories made from your first magical beast’s materials to your guild card.”
Saying that, Ted showed off the strap dangling from his own guild card.
I see. Talk about perfect timing.
“Master! We just got promoted to E-rank!!”
“Yep. Promoted.”
Ted and I thrust our guild cards—big “E“s front and center—right in Master’s face.
“Whoa, impressive, you two. That’s quick.”
Master inspected the cards, then grinned happily. “As expected.”
“Requests’ll ramp up from here. Don’t slack off.”
““Yes!”“
Everything felt so great, I ended up jumping at Master, only to get peeled off with his usual “Hey, hey,” waving me away as he headed back.
“Normally, you get it from the instructor you hunted with. Since you’re Sid’s disciple, Marie, the guild master must’ve been thoughtful about it.”
I gotta thank the guild master later.
That guy’s surprisingly considerate.
Ahh, but I’m so happy.
“I’ve always been a self-proclaimed disciple, so this means I’m officially one now, right? I’m thrilled—about to cry for real.”
“Haha. Sid’s such a shy guy. Everyone already sees you as his disciple, Marie.”
Master always says he doesn’t take disciples…
I see. Should’ve acted more disciple-like.
Ehehe. Can’t stop grinning.
I attached it to my guild card right away and kept pulling it out to smirk at it.
“Who’d you get yours from, Ted?”
“Gain. I was over the moon when I got it. Stared at it all day.”
I get it!
Today, I just wanna stare at mine all day.
“Speaking of, what’re Gain and the others even doing for over a month now? We’ll catch up to S-rank by the time they get back.”
“Ahaha. That’d be awesome. But no word since—kinda worrying. He told us to hit C-rank by the time he returns, though…”
“Huh. For real?”
C-rank?
They planned on being gone that long?
Are they seriously still dragging those five-year-olds over mountains?
Wonder what the grown-ups are up to right now.
