Chapter 110 – The Action in Dolaiz City
Chapter 110 – The Action in Dolaiz City
A meeting concluded early, and Hett, filled with anxiety, made his way to an inconspicuous forge beside the castle. As the Minister of Internal Affairs, he had to immediately inform the city’s guardian—the dwarf warrior Lord Bahanger—about the major incident that had occurred in Doleiz City!
Hett visited the dwarf empty-handed, as gifts were utterly useless with this dwarf warrior. The other would accept presents without hesitation but never lift a finger to help—a fact his family had confirmed over the past century.
Entering the forge, Hett endured the scorching heat and pungent smell of iron as he approached a bearded dwarf vigorously hammering a piece of silver metal.
“Lord Bahanger, Lord Bahanger! Your servant has urgent matters to report!”
Amid the deafening clangs, Hett had to nearly shout to get the dwarf warrior’s attention.
“What is it this time? What do you want from me again?”
Bahanger impatiently threw his large hammer onto the forging table with a loud clang.
“Just say it—is the Heide Family in trouble? I only agreed to protect the Heide Family back then, not to be their nanny!”
As Bahanger turned around, Hett almost felt the urge to flee. The imposing aura of a Formal-Level warrior was overwhelmingly powerful.
“Lord Bahanger, a terrible plague has recently emerged in Doleiz City. Yet, His Highness Gollat, deceived by that ridiculous knight’s slander, plans to allow a mob of rioters into the city! What if the last heir of the Heide Family contracts the plague?”
At this moment, Hett truly resembled a loyal elder statesman, his acting skills only missing a golden statue award.
But Bahanger didn’t even glance at him properly. Hearing that the so-called major issue was merely an “insignificant” plague, he waved his hand impatiently and said:
“A little plague is nothing. I can disperse it with some Battle Aura. With me here, no plague can get close. That’s it!”
With that, Bahanger picked up his hammer again, ready to resume forging.
“My lord, my lord! This… this plague is destroying the very foundation of the Heide Family…”
Hearing Bahanger dismiss such a terrifying plague so casually, Hett grew frantic and tried to persuade him further. But Bahanger turned around angrily, glaring fiercely:
“I’ve said it before—my agreement was to solve problems if the Heide Family faces trouble, to forge peacefully if they’re safe, and to seek revenge with my life if they’re annihilated! Everything else about their estate has nothing to do with me!”
After speaking, Bahanger once again took up his hammer, striking the silver metal on the anvil with powerful blows, clearly ignoring Hett.
Seeing Bahanger’s attitude, Hett could only inwardly curse the dwarf for being stubborn and inflexible. In the end, he had no choice but to leave in defeat.
After leaving the scorching forge, Hett maintained his usual “benevolent” smile on his face, but his fists were clenched tightly—he was filled with regret!
“If only I’d known that Church would be so reckless, I should never have collaborated with them!”
Thinking of his initial decision, Hett stamped his feet in frustration. As the Minister of Internal Affairs wielding immense power, over half of the nobles in Doleiz City followed his lead. However, with Kaiskaser, who controlled military authority, constantly opposing him, and the powerful dwarf warrior Bahanger steadfastly protecting the incompetent Heide Family, Hett was destined to be unable to overthrow the pleasure-seeking Gollat and become city lord himself.
He knew his power appeared formidable, but facing a Formal-Level warrior, he wasn’t even fit to be a joke—especially with that damned Kaiskaser watching him like a hawk. His dream of controlling Doleiz City was doomed to remain just a dream. Just as he was nearly ready to abandon his pursuit of greater power, the High Priest of the “Tisha Xia’er Church” sought him out.
Hett clearly remembered how the High Priest revealed their desire to eliminate Kaiskaser. This knight had been obstructing the Church’s development to such an extent that the devout High Priest could no longer tolerate it.
This just happened to align perfectly with Hett’s own intentions. Without Kaiskaser to oppose him, with the simple-minded dwarf staying out of affairs, and with young Gollat obediently following his every word, wouldn’t Doleiz City effectively become his?
Blinded by greed, Hett did not hesitate to cooperate with this mysterious Church, helping cover up their missionary activities, granting them clearance for various smuggled goods, and even assisting them in recruiting followers within the military to suppress Kaiskaser. But back then, he never could have imagined that the Church’s actions would grow increasingly crazy—in fact, increasingly suicidal.
Sitting in his carriage, he couldn’t help but gnash his teeth in anger:
“Are these madmen trying to offend everyone in the good-aligned factions? They’re actually drugging people—just to gain a few more poor followers in the short term?”
Hett was utterly perplexed. He couldn’t comprehend why the Church would do this. Didn’t they know that some clerics of benevolent deities in Doleiz City were already preparing to take action? Didn’t they realize the abnormal situation had aroused suspicion in the Dillon Kingdom? Didn’t they understand he was struggling to conceal these crazy acts anymore?
Hett even suspected the recent sudden outbreak of plague might be related to them, but this terrifying thought was too dreadful to entertain, so he quickly dismissed it.
If that were really the case… it would be too horrifying!
But by now, Hett was already on this pirate ship. Though he desperately wanted to disembark and sever ties with this insane Church, he had a growing premonition that things wouldn’t be that easy!
Doleiz City appeared as peaceful as ever. The plague seemed to have bypassed the city entirely, without the slightest sign from beginning to end. The suffering of people outside the walls felt like someone else’s problem. The magnificent Doleiz City continued its revelries as usual, with most residents treating the “legendary” plague as mere rumors and stories.
Only one urgently assembled military unit gathered at the city gate. Under the leadership of the righteous Knight Commander, they were determined to venture out and aid the commoners trapped outside the city.
Watching several noblewomen pointing and gossiping about the solemn soldiers, and numerous citizens loudly criticizing his decision to rescue refugees outside the walls, Kaiskaser felt fury boiling within him.In his view, as long as quarantine measures were properly implemented, many innocent refugees could be saved. However…
The nobles of Doleiz City, fearing the spread of the plague, mostly refused to allow the poor commoners into the city. Even though Kaiskaser had repeatedly guaranteed that thorough inspections would be conducted, many voices in Doleiz still opposed aiding the refugees.
Even most ordinary citizens disagreed with Kaiskaser’s decision, which deeply saddened the Knight Commander who cared wholeheartedly for Doleiz City. He could not accept such arguments about abandoning people in dire need, so despite facing public pressure, he stubbornly decided to leave the city and rescue the refugees.
“After hearing about the plague, several lords near the Lush Forest have refused entry to any residents from Doleiz City. They… have nowhere else to go now!”
Gripping his lance tightly, Kaiskaser ignored the accusations from the surrounding crowd and resolutely led the City Guard out of Doleiz City.
