Chapter 131 – Severely Wounded Rock Worm
Chapter 131 – Severely Wounded Rock Worm
Netheril’s Glory
“Well done!”
Bahanger shouted loudly. He had been wondering how to dodge the giant worm’s attack when Punk’s “Kinetic Stasis” perfectly neutralized the enemy’s assault.
Kangkai beside him also revealed an excited expression, but he didn’t say much. Instead, he immediately seized this opportunity to charge toward the still-roaring Rock Worm.
“Formal-Level Combat Skill—Saw Wheel!”
Leaping mid-air, Kangkai decisively activated his most powerful combat skill. His body instantly began spinning at high speed, a tremendous humming noise filling the space around the rocky cliff. The Battle Aura-empowered shortsword breaking the sound barrier even seemed to tear through the sunlight’s rays.
“Hah!!!”
A sharp roar erupted from Kangkai’s mouth as he descended like a rapidly rotating chainsaw toward the seam in the Rock Worm’s carapace.
“Screeeech————”!
When the “chainsaw” coated with pale cyan Wind-Type Battle Aura made contact with the Rock Worm’s shell, an ear-piercing friction sound reverberated throughout the cliff. Dark green blood sprayed into the air like mist, mingling with cyan Battle Aura fragments and numerous sparks, creating a spectacle as brilliant as fireworks.
“Rooaar!!”
Kangkai’s cutting quickly breached the Rock Worm’s carapace, approaching its bones. At this moment, the repeatedly struck Rock Worm swiftly raised its tail—shaped like a giant simple blade—attempting to sweep away the chainsaw grinding against its neck.
But Punk and Bahanger, who had been waiting on standby, wouldn’t let it succeed.
Bahanger heavily stomped on the cliff face, his robust body instantly propelling dozens of meters upward.
“Watch me smash you into paste!”
With his beard and hair whipping wildly, Bahanger spun sharply in mid-air. His warhammer, glowing bright yellow with Battle Aura, struck squarely toward the Rock Worm’s gleaming, cold tail.
Detecting a small but incredibly fast object targeting its most vulnerable tail joint, the Rock Worm quickly twisted its body. While opening its mouth to gather energy again—attempting to fire an energy sphere at Kangkai—it simultaneously strained to swing its tail in the opposite direction to evade Bahanger’s hammer.
But it forgot about the mage nearby—Punk, who was always ready to restrict its movements. Soon, this panicked Rock Worm would learn the dire cost of ignoring a control-focused mage.
Amid the battlefield filled with flying ice, shattered rocks, the Rock Worm’s roars, and Kangkai’s piercing cuts, no one noticed that a deep purple spell radiating terrifying energy had already taken form in Punk’s hands.
“Formal-Level Conjuration Spell—Kinetic Crush!”
Almost simultaneously as the Rock Worm raised its tail, massive kinetic energy materialized above its tail and cascaded down like a bursting flood, crashing entirely onto the appendage.
“Crack crack…………”
The sturdy carapace instantly cracked like ice struck by an ice axe, but most importantly, the Rock Worm’s movement was unavoidably halted on the spot.
“Excellent, now leave it to me! Hahahaha!”
Bahanger, who hadn’t enjoyed a good fight in a long time, laughed heartily. Without hesitation, he activated a Formal-Level divine spell embedded in his hammer mid-air to enhance this strike’s power.Moradin’s Hammer: Grants the target an additional burst of momentum during their Charge (limited to Moradin’s devotees).
Propelled by the divine magic, the dwarf warrior’s descent accelerated unnaturally once more. Bahanger, who had already been reduced to a blur, now transformed into a streaking amber flash. The hammer, with all its runes fully illuminated, struck the rockworm’s tail like a meteor.
“BOOM!!!”
At the moment of impact, the released energy coalesced into a shimmering sphere of light. A tangible shockwave erupted instantly, the deafening roar punctuated by the sickening crunch of shattered chitin. Ultimately, the massive tail was severed clean off by the hammer blow, the detached half tumbling down the cliff face and leaving behind a gruesome, explosive fracture on the creature’s body.
“ROAR”!!
Agony wracked the rockworm from the devastating tail injury. It failed to complete the attack brewing in its mouth—the half-formed energy sphere flickered twice before dissipating into the frigid air.
Unfortunately, Kangkai had already ceased his Combat Skill—Saw Wheel. As this was only the trio’s first collaboration, Kangkai couldn’t be certain Bahanger’s strike would successfully interrupt the rockworm’s spell-like ability. Erring on the side of caution, he halted his rotation the moment he saw energy gathering around the creature. Pushing off from the blood-slicked chitin with both feet, he withdrew from the half-cut wound.
Though Kangkai’s attack didn’t decapitate the rockworm outright, the near-flawlessly coordinated assaults from three Formal-Level combatants had inflicted massive damage. The blood gushing from its body alone could fill a small pond.
The glacial rockworm now bore no resemblance to the dominant force that had first emerged. One eye was pulverized by the vibrating Shortsword, its neck gaped with a horrific laceration, half its tail was gone, and the chitin on its lower body was crisscrossed with fissures like parched earth.
Despite these grievous wounds, its enemies—the trio of Formal-Level experts—remained completely unscathed from start to finish.
Even in its mindless fury, the rockworm recognized the futility of direct confrontation.
Emitting two low growls brimming with intensified hatred, the rockworm’s head began glowing with pale yellow light. Lowering its head toward the solid rock face, the yellowish radiance started spinning rapidly. The once-hard granite became as soft as butter under this drill-like energy. The rockworm was activating its survival mechanism to burrow into its true domain—underground!
“Damn, it’s trying to dive underground for an ambush!” Kangkai shouted.
“Hell no, this bastard’s trying to flee!” Bahanger roared.
Whether the rockworm intended to ambush as Kangkai feared or escape as Bahanger claimed, Punk had no intention of letting it succeed.
In the mere two seconds it took for the others to speak, half the rockworm’s head had already vanished into the rock wall. The displaced stone churned and vibrated around it, leaving both Kangkai and Bahanger helpless—attempting to intervene now would only create openings as they struggled to maintain footing on the shifting surface. Though severely wounded, the rockworm hadn’t yet lost its combat capability. But just because the two of them had no solution didn’t mean Punk was helpless either.
Seeing the rockworm rapidly burrowing into the cave, Punk’s gaze sharpened. He swiftly pulled out a small handful of grayish-black powder, and within a mere two seconds, a spell requiring substantial energy was prepared.
Under the infusion of magical power, the grayish-black powder shimmered like stardust, forming a slowly rotating ribbon with both ends connected to the ink-colored energy cube in Punk’s hand. At the moment the spell was completed, the chill permeating the canyon seemed to freeze momentarily, as if the icy cold in the air was gradually receding.
Punk stared coldly at the rockworm, whose head was mostly buried in the rock wall, and resolutely released the spell in his hand.
“Formal-Level Conjuration Spell—Realm Compression”!
