Chapter 155 – Each Has Their Own Calculations

Chapter 155 – Each Has Their Own Calculations

“Formal-Level Conjuration Spell – Mass Sleep: Causes creatures within a 2,500 square meter area to fall into slumber (sleep duration depends on the creature’s soul level).

Note: This spell is the group version of ‘Sleep Spell’. While expanding the coverage area, it significantly reduces single-target potency.

This spell isn’t actually suitable for combat against opponents of equal level. It was invented specifically to facilitate ‘cleaning up’ enemies below Formal-Level.

If an Apprentice-Level or Apprentice Rank professional were to be hit by Punk’s spell like this, they would inevitably fall into months-long slumber. For ordinary people, over ninety percent would die directly, and those fortunate enough to survive would starve to death in unwakeable sleep.

Punk’s objective was to eliminate most people with weak vitality. With so many ‘materials’ before him, he only needed the highest quality life force to recover from his injuries.

Without any suspense, after Punk’s transparent sphere silently exploded above the refugee crowd, crystalline light points resembling snowflakes drifted down onto every refugee’s shoulders. All the refugees shuddered simultaneously, then – whether fierce-looking strong men or battle-hungry youths – they all drowsily collapsed to the ground.

Most of them had their brains destroyed by the spell, leaving only over ten survivors. The area near the city gate became densely covered with dark, fallen corpses, and the previously chaotic gate immediately fell silent.

“Not bad, not bad. It seems even among these sallow-faced, emaciated fellows there are a few robust ones”!

Punk nodded with satisfaction, then manipulated Mage Hand to grab those “survivors” and place them beside himself, finally beginning to chant the spell to extract life force.

“Even if they committed crimes, they shouldn’t suffer torment before death. This is the most basic respect for enemies”.

Kangkai looked complexly at the dozen-plus “survivors” piled together by Punk, then spoke to Punk with clear dissatisfaction in his tone.

“Respect? What’s that? Is it tasty?”

Punk temporarily paused the prepared spell, turning to look at Kangkai with an ambiguous smile.

Though he wasn’t unprepared for a fight with this ranger, this absolutely didn’t mean Punk feared this guy. Even though Punk was currently somewhat close to the ranger, his Master-level Robe had already partially recharged, sufficient to use “Anywhere Door” one more time.

Kangkai glared furiously at Punk, but ultimately didn’t say anything more. The chaos in Doleiz City needed someone to control it, Bahanger’s injuries required treatment – he couldn’t afford to clash with Punk here.

Seeing Kangkai only angrily glare without speaking, Punk contemptuously “hmph”-ed. He understood the weaknesses of these good-aligned types like Kangkai all too well – they had too many considerations in their hearts, too easily manipulated.

Without paying Kangkai any mind, Punk mercilessly cast the spell on that “pile” of survivors.

“Formal-Level Conjuration Spell – Life Siphon: Drains other creatures’ life force to replenish oneself.

A vibrant, shimmering energy ribbon appeared in Punk’s hand, its other end precisely linking to the “survivors.” Vast quantities of life force began flowing through the windlessly undulating ribbon into Punk’s body.Since the creatures of this world are connected through life-linked cells, when a large amount of life force is drained and the connections between cells can no longer be maintained, their bodies begin to melt like candles placed in a flame, eventually turning into puddles of viscous, multicolored fluid.

Having absorbed a vast amount of life force, Punk dispelled the “simulated organs.” His lost internal organs regenerated completely within seconds.

“Alright, you’ve recovered now. Shouldn’t we go find Gollat?”

Seeing that Punk had fully healed, Bahanger was the first to impatiently speak up. He had already noticed the Lord’s Castle in the city center was gone. Familiar with the self-destruct capabilities of those fanatics, Bahanger immediately realized that conspicuous shoddy castle must have been blown to bits. Now he was burning with urgency to learn whether Gollat had survived.

Gollat was just an ordinary person, and in Punk’s view, this useless fellow was eighty percent likely reduced to dust. Still, to understand the current situation among Doleiz’s upper echelons, Punk decided to perform a divination regarding this individual.

It wasn’t particularly difficult. Punk quickly located the lord through prophecy. When the divination results appeared, Punk’s expression showed mild surprise—he hadn’t expected someone like that to survive the chaos. Though his current location was rather… amusing.

————————Division Line——————

Hett could swear he had never suffered such hardships in his entire life. Since childhood, he had been the young master of a great noble house, later smoothly becoming the patriarch of the Weimi Family. Wherever he went, he was pampered and served by crowds. Yet in his twilight years, Hett unexpectedly experienced the life of a refugee.

Strictly speaking, Hett’s decision had been quite shrewd. Hiding among the refugees had indeed allowed Gollat to escape disaster—just look at how those who stubbornly remained in the castle were utterly obliterated.

Although Gollat seemed terrified into stupor by the blood and corpses everywhere, compliantly letting Hett maneuver him without uttering a word, this experience still represented the tragedy of Hett’s life.

Now he wore tattered clothes, his face smeared with dirt and ash, squeezed among a crowd of filthy refugees drifting along until…

“Hett, you fool! How did you end up like this?”

Standing atop a high rooftop, Bahanger exclaimed in astonishment while looking down at Hett among the refugees.

Punk was also speechless regarding Hett. Wasn’t he supposed to stay behind to intercept the Tisha Xia’er Church followers? Punk clearly remembered this old man solemnly promising to capture some high-quality slaves. How had he ended up in such a pathetic state?

While the refugees around Hett were still stunned, Punk used Mage Hand to scoop up both Hett and Gollat like fishing them out of water.

“Oh, my Lord Bahanger! Those… those wretched commoners rebelled! If they hadn’t disregarded the greater good to assist the Tisha Xia’er Cult in their treasonous plans, the righteous City Guard would have long accomplished the tasks assigned by you noble lords under wise aristocratic leadership!”

Hett defended himself through tears and sniffles, his words forming a lengthy speech that ultimately conveyed a simple message—it was all the refugees’ fault, nothing to do with him.

Just listen to that. So straightforward. So logically impeccable.

Punk silently remarked—I almost believed it!No one would believe Hett’s nonsense, but under the current circumstances, such lies best served the interests of Doleiz City.

Kangkai certainly knew Hett was spouting pure fabrication, yet Doleiz City needed the Nobles’ support to quell the unrest. Moreover, the refugees had indeed committed acts that could be deemed “sinful” according to Oubai’s teachings, so Kangkai found himself hesitating momentarily.

The refugees still looting and plundering across the city, the Nobles hiding in cellars swearing vengeance against these refugees, and the remaining fanatical followers of the Tisha Xia’er Church causing chaos—none of them knew their fates hung on Kangkai’s fleeting decision.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Punk intended to speak up for them. He hoped Doleiz City would require more of Kangkai’s attention—as long as Doleiz remained unstable, Kangkai would never abandon its people and leave!

“Surely settling a group of refugees will give this ranger a lasting headache,”

Punk mused.

But before he could speak, a squad of “Chūnibyū enthusiasts” had already arrived on the scene.
