Chapter 159 – The Death of Kangkai

Chapter 159 – The Death of Kangkai

Kangkai’s divine equipment had failed.

No, to be precise, it hadn’t produced its intended effect.

When Kangkai activated the divine equipment, he should have been enveloped in a white light and transformed into an ethereal state. This “Etherealization” could last about fifteen seconds, during which Kangkai could evade most attacks and move freely. Although he couldn’t launch any attacks himself, he could use this state to defend against assaults, break free from restraints, and even cleanse many negative status effects.

But this time, after the familiar white light flashed, Kangkai didn’t feel the usual sense of weightless freedom, and the restraints on his body showed no signs of loosening!

On the contrary, he felt even more tightly constrained – he couldn’t even blink his eyes or move his fingers now.

What Kangkai didn’t know was that his body had become a composite of translucent energy, white substance, and semi-transparent gray shadows. The transparent energy portions kept trying to separate and move, but they were firmly held in place by an invisible force field, completely immobilized.

“How… how is this possible? The power of great Obould actually…”

Kangkai widened his eyes and roared in disbelief. Clearly, he held this divine power in the highest regard, yet now this power had failed him. That Obould’s omnipotence would end before an evil mage – how could Kangkai accept such a reality?

“Ignorance is truly terrifying. Poor fool – these words suit you perfectly.”

Punk glanced contemptuously at Kangkai, calmly shook his head, and spoke in an emotionless voice:

“This ‘Etherealization’ ability is quite useful, isn’t it? You’ve probably defeated many enemies with it. But do you truly understand it? Do you understand its mechanisms? Its true nature? Or rather… like how you use your own arm, you actually have no idea about its composition or principles?”

While constructing his spell matrix, Punk spoke with a mocking smile. He suddenly understood why so many villainous bosses couldn’t stop talking after their plans succeeded – because toying with enemies who remain completely clueless is simply too entertaining.

“That divine spell of Obould’s is fundamentally just an elemental transformation spell. He just chose the unconventional space element as the transformation target. When the divine spell activates, Obould’s divine power converts your body into space elements, evenly distributing them throughout the surrounding space. As for that shadow you still think is your body – it’s merely a precise positioning marker. Oh! And it might have some use in confusing opponents too?

I must admit, it’s indeed an excellent divine spell! Elemental transformation alone can evade many attacks, and then Obould further enhances defense by reducing the attack surface through dispersing the elementalized body! I believe most martial professionals would find this utterly headache-inducing.

But… young man, you really shouldn’t use the same trick twice before a mage, nor should you believe that any method in this world is without weaknesses.”Punk gently tapped the emerald staff on the ground, channeling a massive amount of mana into the magic circle beneath. The intricate array, adorned with countless complex runes, gradually illuminated with power.

Mysterious patterns spread across a spherical energy barrier shimmering with white light, at the center of which stood Kangkai. With Punk’s additional mana reinforcement, Kangkai felt his Battle Aura beginning to solidify—most terrifyingly, his ethereal duration was nearly exhausted, and the ranger had no other defensive measures left!

Despite Kangkai’s frantic desperation and unwillingness to accept defeat, Punk had already completed his lethal spell during their brief exchange. A deep purple conical energy form slowly materialized above the emerald staff, its hyper-rotation emitting piercing high-frequency noises and stirring a minor storm within the White Tower’s hall.

“If one doesn’t understand the nature of Obad-Hai’s divine magic… that would be troublesome. Spells like ‘Imprisonment’ or ‘Realm Compression’ would be utterly useless. But… once you comprehend this divine art, dealing with your dispersed spatial elemental form becomes simple. See? An enhanced spatial confinement array renders you immobile.”

As he spoke, Punk raised his staff with impeccably standardized casting posture. Adjusted by the System, the spell—compressed with immense energy—radiated an intensely ominous aura, like a malevolent spirit eager to devour everything in its path.

“This spell incorporates a Metamagic technique I’ve been researching recently. As a ranger who prioritizes speed cultivation… you’re finished.”

Punk’s icy tone seemed laced with frost, his pupils dancing with frenetic azure mana radiance while crimson energy patterns on his mage robe accelerated their flow. Then, facing the ranger still frozen in his charge-into-White-Tower stance, Punk unleashed the completed horrific spell.

“Formal-Level Conjuration Spell—Kinetic Cone

Metamagic – Mana Compression”

Precisely calculated by the System, the Kinetic Cone—with over double the standard energy density—reached Kangkai’s chest the instant his ethereal state ended, timed with gear-like precision. Kangkai couldn’t even mobilize his suppressed, stagnant Battle Aura, forced to watch the violet-glowing cone pierce his chest. Within less than a second, the terrifying rotational kinetic energy shredded all tissue between his neck and waist into mincemeat.

Gory fragments splattered across the White Tower’s walls, viscous crimson mixture slowly dripping down pristine marble surfaces as if a mad artist had painted a sanguine masterpiece. Kangkai died without spectacular visual effects, epic background music, or final heroic declarations—simply killed by Punk before he could even swing his lightweight shortsword.

His head, frozen in shock and despair, rolled clumsily across the floor before settling silently at Punk’s feet.

“Pathetic, isn’t it?”Punk casually used a Cleansing Spell to wash away the bloodstains from Kangkai’s head, then calmly lifted the severed head, forcing Kangkai’s wide-open dead eyes to stare directly at him.

“How dull!”

Punk gazed coldly into Kangkai’s eyes and said:

“I prepared three traps, yet you fell for the very first move… But no matter. Your corpse shall become nourishment for Golem Number One’s recovery, and that Legendary Equipment is destined to be my spoils of war.”

After speaking, Punk carried Kangkai’s head over to his corpse, finally carefully picking up the Divine Necklace that had fallen on the ground.

As he meticulously scanned every inch of the necklace’s engravings with his psychic senses, Punk delightedly discovered that Kangkai hadn’t set up any anti-theft measures on the necklace at all—he could effortlessly gain control of this Ring.

“Fools remain fools—not even a single layer of encryption!” Punk muttered coldly to himself.

But in the very next moment, the contents feedback from the Ring completely froze Punk’s good mood!
