Chapter 401 – The Foolishness of the Sheephead Shaman

Chapter 401 – The Foolishness of the Sheephead Shaman

It has been said that when encountering a bridge, a creature of chaotic evil alignment has roughly equal probability of crossing it versus jumping off it. While this may sound exaggerated, it vividly captures the essence of these “chaotic evil” madmen.

The old Minotaur Shaman that Punk encountered was undoubtedly a thoroughgoing practitioner of the chaotic evil alignment.

After the Minotaur Shaman unleashed his curse, Kane fell victim to it without surprise. This wasn’t due to any lack of caution on Kane’s part, nor was the shaman’s curse particularly powerful—it was purely because the curse struck with utter suddenness.

Without any warning, the Minotaur Shaman’s curse targeted the distant knight instead of Punk. Needless to say, Kane—who had been focused on dealing with the raging ancestral spirit—was caught off guard. Even Punk, who had been maintaining vigilant defense, nearly failed to react in time.

It must be noted that the old Minotaur Shaman remained within Punk’s attack range throughout this, and he clearly didn’t possess the metamagic technique of “Dual Casting”. Under these circumstances, the shaman who had just completed his curse spell became a complete sitting duck for at least the next half-second, his remaining defenses limited solely to the already dimmed magical patterns on his body after being struck by “Kinetic Missile”.

However… the Minotaur Shaman seemed unaware of this. Having successfully ambushed Kane with an unexpected curse, the deranged shaman actually stood his ground and emitted a piercing, horrifying laugh:

“Kekekekekeke, pitiful mage! Behold the mighty power my great master has bestowed upon me! Your companion’s soul is already entangled by the curse, and you shall soon follow in his footsteps, kekekekeke!”

Well, it appeared the Minotaur Shaman was attempting an elaborate “besiege Wei to rescue Zhao” stratagem. He seemed to believe that Punk would inevitably rush to Kane’s rescue when his companion was in danger, at which point the old shaman could suddenly strike and catch Punk off guard.

Hmm, not a bad plan—had the Minotaur Shaman been facing a group of Lawful good Holy Warriors, his scheme might actually have succeeded.

But… unfortunately, he was facing the profit-first Punk. Moreover, from the very beginning, this deranged shaman had completely misunderstood the relationship between Punk and Kane—they were far from friendly companions. On the contrary, both could be considered potential mortal enemies of each other.

In combat, no mistake can be tolerated, for even a small error may bring grave and terrible consequences. Now, the Minotaur Shaman was about to pay dearly for his miscalculation!

Amid the Minotaur Shaman’s self-satisfied laughter, Punk’s response consisted of just four flat, icy words:

“What a fucking moron!”

Nothing more needed saying. This opportunity had practically been delivered to Punk’s doorstep by the shaman himself. How could Punk disregard such “kindness” from his enemy? Unleashing spells with full force required no further discussion! As for Kane… Punk thought: It would be fantastic if he could die by the curse.

“Master Conjuration – Kinetic Crush”

Metamagic – Dualcast

Metamagic – Mana Compression

Master Conjuration – Velocity Kinetic Cone!

Never letting slip an opportunity to eliminate an enemy, Punk immediately employed metamagic to unleash two spells simultaneously without the slightest hesitation.

Under the effect of “Kinetic Crush,” the Minotaur Shaman was instantly slammed face-down into the ground. The terrifying energy compressed the yellow sand into fine dust, and under the influence of the violent kinetic force, the sand in the nearby area surged like ocean waves. The shockwave saturated with purple kinetic energy created a crater in the desert resembling a meteor impact.

Yet this was not the end. Almost simultaneously with the rampage of the dreadful kinetic force, a violet light that tore through space shot toward the Minotaur Shaman, carrying a sound enough to shatter rocks. Within this radiant brilliance, even light itself was forced to scatter like flowing water, and the sand it passed over was carved with fierce trenches.

By this point, the Minotaur Shaman at the epicenter of the spells seemed unable to react. He stared at Punk with an expression of utter disbelief, his crimson eyes seemingly questioning why the enemy would disregard a companion’s peril and defy his anticipated script.

However, the only answer the Minotaur Shaman received was Punk’s bone-chilling glare and the instantaneously arriving “Velocity Kinetic Cone”!

In his final moments, the old shaman appeared to attempt retrieving something from his belt, but under the effect of “Kinetic Crush,” with every bone in his body shattered, he couldn’t even twitch a finger. He could only watch helplessly as a violet glow expanded from a distant point to consume his entire field of vision…

“BOOM”!!

Amidst the sand-choked explosion, the Minotaur Shaman’s body, soul, and the very space he occupied were utterly shredded by the “Velocity Kinetic Cone” enhanced with “Mana Compression.” From start to finish, the old shaman possessed neither the capacity nor opportunity to resist. This arrogant summoner of demons and power was instantly submerged in the violent tide of kinetic force, leaving behind only bloodstains splattered across the sands and tattered fragments of clothing.

Many texts on combating spellcasters emphasize that when facing a mage skilled in metamagic, unless the combatant possesses a trump card capable of turning the tide, fleeing is always the optimal choice.

Punk was precisely such a metamagic specialist. Under the terrifying power of spells wielded by his hands, a shaman with poor defenses who relied heavily on ancestral spirits stood no chance of survival.

After delivering the lethal blow to the Minotaur Shaman, Punk didn’t relent. He almost instantly prepared another spell at maximum speed, and this time, his icy gaze fixed deeply upon Kane…At this moment, Kane was still battling the completely frenzied Ancestral Spirit Demon Worm. Since neither the Ancestral Spirit nor the Demon Worm were summoned creatures, even after the shaman controlling them had died, these Abyss-corrupted monsters could continue fighting. Moreover, with the shaman’s control gone, the deranged Ancestral Spirit began recklessly draining the souls of its tribesmen to replenish itself. As pale blue souls from the Goat-headed Tribe were pulled one after another into the Ancestral Spirit’s body, its combat power saw a significant surge in a short period.

Without a doubt, Kane was an exceptionally powerful Master-Level knight. As a combat professional, even when cornered in a perilous situation, he could still execute that set of conventional yet potent knight combat techniques to perfection. In his hands, the seemingly clumsy and heavy lance seemed to come alive with spirit. No longer holding back, every swing of Kane’s lance successfully parried enemy attacks or inflicted damage upon them.

However, the Minotaur Shaman’s curse was remarkably potent. This curse, capable of restricting a creature’s movements, had almost entirely taken effect on Kane. Now facing the dual assault from the Ancestral Spirit and the Demon Worm, Kane’s movements abruptly froze in place. Instantly, his situation had escalated into dire straits.
