Chapter 473 – The Story of Vectors – The Lost Spire

Approximately twenty-seven thousand years ago, the Raging Wave Desert was not the barren wasteland it is today. On the contrary, ten thousand years prior, this land was covered with lush green grass and blooming flowers. The glacial meltwater from the Hoth Mountains always brought vitality to any plains at the foot of the mountains.

Standing tall on this serene prairie, akin to a hidden paradise, was a towering Mage’s Tower. A powerful Legendary Caster resided within this beautiful spire, adorned with intricate and dazzling runes.

“Summoner” Abido Dahak, this Legendary Expert, was a recently advanced caster. He had established his own tower in this peaceful, secluded place to conduct research, and his focus was on a crucial skill essential for any spellcaster—Alchemy!

Abido was not particularly skilled in alchemy. In fact, although he was a mage who had advanced to the Legendary rank, luck had played a role in at least seventy percent of his success. As suggested by the title he gave himself, his expertise lay in Summoning Magic…

Or, to be more precise… he could only use Summoning Magic.

Abido was a Summoning-specialized Legendary Mage!

As a thorough practicalist and traveling mage, Abido had both benefited and suffered greatly from his “specialization” on his path to becoming a Legendary. For one, his complete lack of knowledge in Alchemy Magic had left him impoverished throughout his journey. Even by the time he advanced to the Legendary rank, this powerful caster still owed substantial debts to several Kingdoms.

Having suffered enough from his inability to use spells from other schools, and finally achieving the safety of the Legendary rank while resolving his debt crisis (who would dare demand repayment from a Legendary Mage?), Abido promptly “borrowed” some resources from a few familiar Kingdoms and arrived at this still verdant “Raging Wave Desert.”

Abido wanted to seriously study alchemy spells. At the very least, he felt that his alchemy skills as a Legendary Mage should not fall short of those of his own Master-Level apprentice. Besides, he, Abido, was a “wise caster” who revered knowledge and intellect—being called a “violent maniac” for thousands of years did not align with the image he had of himself.

Thus, after hastily skimming through a few “borrowed” alchemy spellbooks, the impatient Abido immediately began hands-on practice.

“I am a Legendary Mage. I’ve succeeded in advancing to the Legendary rank, so how difficult could a little alchemy be?”

With this mindset, Abido started working with a pile of alchemical remnants that were little better than “scrap.”

He first clumsily manipulated a large set of Alchemy Tools, then awkwardly carved crude energy patterns onto his creation. Finally, sweating profusely from the progress of his alchemical work, Abido recklessly took it upon himself to program the core functions for the virtual soul.

In the end, after a series of alchemical experiments by this inept mage, a Magic Raven was born—a creation that, at the Legendary level of Alchemical Creations, was utterly useless except for its somewhat pleasing appearance.Abydos, a mage who had fought his way to the Legendary level like a berserker, was utterly unsuited for the delicate work of alchemical spells. His “alchemy” merely succeeded in refining a pile of barely Legendary-tier magical “scraps” into magical “waste” that couldn’t even reach the Legendary level. Beyond that, in programming the virtual soul, he somehow transformed the excellent traits of “obedience, attentiveness, and intelligence” into the comical personality of “cowardly, timid, and dim-witted.”

At this point, the Magical Raven Vector was completely ruined in Abydos’s hands.

The direct combat power of this Alchemical Creation had only just reached the Formal-Level, and the forcibly solidified spell “Directional Interference” was merely a low-tier Legendary spell. Presenting such an eyesore would be a disgrace to any Legendary Mage’s reputation—even Abydos’s own disciples couldn’t bring themselves to falsely praise “Vector” as a successful creation.

Thus, the Magical Raven Vector was discarded as “scrap” into Abydos’s “junk storage warehouse.” Despite his reluctance to admit it, Vector remained Abydos’s first alchemical work in his long life. Even though Abydos hadn’t bothered to name the then-“nameless” Vector at the time, he suppressed the urge to toss this failure directly into the incinerator, thinking, “It’s at least some kind of memento.”And so, as a ‘nameless’ discarded product, Vector spent thousands of years in Abydos’s dedicated warehouse for ‘souvenirs,’ accompanied only by piles of forgotten junk mementos.” Over those millennia, Vector’s sole accomplishment was memorizing every old sock and tattered hat in that dilapidated warehouse.

Abydos, a Legendary Mage with a touch of “nostalgic OCD,” had lived so long that his collection of souvenirs had overflowed the warehouse. Eventually, one day, while tearfully resolving to overcome his “OCD” and clean out the warehouse, he nearly “cleared out” Vector along with the rest.

After that… there was no after.

Vector, who had remained in the warehouse all along, had no idea what happened later. Perhaps Abydos’s enemies had come knocking? Or maybe that violence-prone fanatic’s experiment had gone awry!

According to Vector’s recollection, he only suddenly felt a violent tremor one day, and then the entire spire, along with this “junk warehouse,” sank into the earth.

Vector surmised that it was around then, accompanying an accident at a Legendary Caster’s residence, the entire lush prairie transformed overnight into a completely barren desert. Thick yellow sand buried all traces of the former grassland, and rapidly rising dunes sealed this lost spire underground forever.

The whereabouts of the Legendary Mage Abydos remained unknown, and what transpired over the ten thousand years as the sands engulfed this world was beyond Vector’s understanding. In truth, for the Magic Raven, as long as the “shabby warehouse” it inhabited remained intact, whatever happened to the spire outside was irrelevant. After all, it couldn’t possibly break the magical barrier on this warehouse to venture outside.

Over those twenty thousand years, this tiny warehouse became the entire world for the Magic Raven, which had developed a habit of talking to itself. Most of its time was spent voluntarily sinking into slumber to stave off loneliness—though this state of existence, somewhat akin to death, struck fear deep into Vector’s core.

Vector’s virtual soul could sustain it for seventy thousand years. Originally, the Magic Raven believed it was destined to live out its days in that dimly lit warehouse until death. After all, too much time had passed; history had surely long forgotten this Legendary Mage’s spire. Theoretically, no one would explore this deeply buried Ruins, nor would anyone reach this warehouse to release Vector…

This lifeless existence indeed persisted for an exceedingly long time, until one day… in the midst of the hottest Scorchseason, a faint blue glow suddenly illuminated the perpetually gloomy “shabby storage room.”

And then, Vector encountered its first destined “Boss.”

Vector clearly remembered—it was a Master-Level Mage with a somewhat handsome youthful appearance. The smiling spellcaster who greeted it politely introduced himself with generosity:

“Hello, are you the administrator of this spire? I’m Sosend Jess—pleased to meet you!”
