Chapter 70 – The Counterattack of the Enchanting Demon

The glabrezu lying on the ground, its leg tissues mostly destroyed by kinetic energy, appeared to have lost most of its combat capability. Punk even considered transporting it through the portal to the Faerûn Plane. Though dumping such a powerful demon into a realm mostly inhabited by ordinary people would undoubtedly tarnish his reputation, the thought of wasting such excellent material pained him deeply.

However, Punk ultimately decided to abandon this frenzied, terrifying creature. While its strength didn’t exceed the portal’s capacity, its massive size posed a problem. To drag it through, Punk would need to dismember the glabrezu into seven or eight pieces using spells—a process too time-consuming for his current situation. Most powerful greater demons possessed extraordinary perception, and Punk was certain distant, strong demons were already heading toward the location. The massive combat ripples earlier were far too conspicuous. Ordinary mages fighting in the Abyss typically used concealment barriers to avoid being swarmed by other demons, but Punk’s battle had been too sudden, and he didn’t know any large-scale shielding spells!

In the end, Punk led the spell cage filled with vrocks toward the portal. It had to be said, the Apprentice-Level potion had an unusually potent effect on Apprentice Rank demons—none of the ferocious demons in the cage showed any signs of waking.

But one enraged behemoth clearly had no intention of letting Punk leave the Abyss peacefully. As a glabrezu of some renown in the area, allowing itself to be brutally beaten half to death by some random mage without mounting any substantial counterattack would render it a complete disgrace in the demon world.

Eyes bloodshot with fury, the demon let out a terrifying roar that nearly condensed into a shockwave. Suddenly, vast amounts of Abyssal energy began seeping from every crevice between its armored plates. The crimson energy writhed like serpents slithering between sharp bone spurs.

One of the glabrezu’s signature skills—”Grapple”—was activated!

The demon, which had been lying nearly lifeless moments before, burst forth with unbelievable speed. Propelled by Abyssal energy, its massive form broke the sound barrier, transforming into a blur charging toward Eyer. The ground it passed over sank deeply under immense pressure, with blood-red dust violently expelled to both sides. Emerging from the rolling crimson waves like a ship breaking through stormy seas, the glabrezu surged through the blood-dust tide, heading straight for Punk beside the portal.

But since Punk had dared to turn his back and approach the portal, he naturally had thorough preparations to handle the demon’s ambush!

Facing the glabrezu that closed the distance in nearly an instant, Punk unhesitatingly released the spell he’d prepared in his hand. A faint purple energy strand that had been slowly coiling in his palm shot forth like lightning toward the glabrezu’s outstretched arm, making contact with the enormous claw at least ten meters away from Punk.Upon contact with the demon’s arm entwined with crimson energy, intricate purple patterns spiraled up the glabrezu’s limb, reaching its shoulder in less than a ten-thousandth of a second!

After being covered by the pale purple spell runes, the glabrezu’s arm slowed to a complete halt within a single second. The kinetic energy from this arm was rapidly siphoned through pale purple energy streams, while a massive purple magic circle materialized behind Punk. As the circle rotated slowly, the absorbed kinetic energy fragmented into countless low-energy sparks that erupted outward. These sparks split again before dissipating into clouds of pale purple kinetic dust, surrounding Punk with shimmering particles that danced in translucent violet luminescence, enveloping him in a dazzling spectacle.

Formal-Level Conjuration Spell—Kinetic Siphon!

This spell could completely drain an object’s kinetic energy, then convert it into harmless, scattered kinetic particles released through the rear magic circle.

Crucially, only objects fully covered by the Kinetic Siphon spell runes could have their kinetic energy absorbed. Thus, Punk only siphoned energy from the glabrezu’s single arm, while its body continued hurtling forward under the Abyss’s energy. The result—the glabrezu’s torso violently collided with its own immobilized arm!

Amid the demon’s agonized howls, a cascade of bone-crunching cracks echoed as flesh erupted from both sides of the impact zone. The glabrezu’s entire right arm contorted into a limp, mangled mass.

This outcome was staggering—considering the glabrezu’s velocity was equivalent to a Shenzhou rocket slamming into a Boeing 747. That the arm remained structurally intact rather than disintegrating into viscera testified to the demon’s formidable physiology.

Yet even the hardiest body devoid of intelligence deserved only the epithet “mindless brute.”

With only one arm immobilized by Kinetic Siphon, the glabrezu’s high-speed momentum abruptly terminated without equilibrium. It tumbled past Punk like a giant leather ball, leaving behind a severed arm twitching on the ground.

“Such idiocy is basically delivering materials to me on a platter.”

Punk observed the glabrezu hurtling over two hundred meters away, trailing gore in its wake. The crippled demon—now with merely one limb remaining—would inevitably be torn apart by rival demons in the Abyssal Wastelands without any further intervention.Punk used a Mage Hand to grab the mangled, mostly pulped limb of the marilith while also pulling along the floating spell Cage, then without hesitation charged through the portal. He could already sense several immense sources of danger converging from all directions. The undisguised, brutal killing intent was so palpable it even made the dust in the area feel charged with grim finality. Punk knew he had to leave immediately. Even though the marilith was nearly dismembered and he could have greatly increased his haul by using a few spells to drag over some corpse fragments, there was no time left! If he waited until those battle-crazed demons chasing the fight came into view, escape would be impossible.

That familiar emptiness returned. Weightless, Punk barely registered any sense of direction or speed. Before he knew it, he was back in the Faerûn Plane.

Upon returning to the eerie black-and-red stained White Tower tainted by Abyssal energy, Punk’s first act was to instantly cast a Catapult Spell to destroy the portal.

Amidst the grating screech of distortion, the blood-red portal closed. Just before it sealed shut, Punk faintly heard the relentless sounds of bloody roars and combat from the other side.

Just in time, just in time!

Wiping sweat from his brow, Punk casually tossed the marilith’s arm and the cage full of imps aside. He then picked up a bottle of clean water from a table, gently blew away the blood-dust clinging to its rim, and took small sips. It had to be said—purely in terms of environment, the Faerûn Plane was really quite pleasant.

Standing in the White Tower’s parlor, filled with blood-dust and foul odors, Punk remained impeccably clean under the protection of his Minor Deflection Field. Not a speck of blood-dust could come within a meter of him. But aside from Punk, the interior of the White Tower was coated in at least two centimeters of crimson dust, and the energy deeply etched into the marble would need to be cleansed. Still, that wouldn’t be too troublesome.
