Chapter 11: Ways to Awaken Power (Part 1)

Volume 1 “Year of Calamity”

Dragging the floral-skirt zombie into the pre-prepared empty room with effort, An Sheng casually locked the door behind him. This was An Sheng’s first time observing a zombie up close.

The young miss zombie before him was clawing and snapping at him, but her strength wasn’t particularly great—at least it remained within controllable limits.

After humans turned into zombies, their skin took on an ashen brown hue and lost the flexibility they possessed as humans. Their eyes became deathly gray, apparently having lost their vision, though hearing likely remained. An Sheng remembered how the explosion had attracted many zombies earlier, though he couldn’t be entirely certain—it was also possible zombies relied on smell to distinguish between their own kind and food.

These mutated zombies hadn’t changed dramatically compared to their former human selves. At the very least, they hadn’t decomposed into the grotesque monsters seen in movies and TV shows—only their skin and eyes had altered, with stiff limbs and slow movement making them relatively easy to deal with.

An Sheng currently had two tasks: first, to find a way to awaken the hidden power within himself through combat, and second, to identify zombie weaknesses and discover simple, efficient methods to eliminate these damned creatures.

Based on information gathered from movies and TV shows, the brain was a zombie’s weak point—destroying the head would kill it. With no other intelligence available, he could only test this theory first.

Keeping a safe distance using the anti-riot steel ring with one hand, An Sheng slowly raised the fire axe with the other.

Having been stored in a fire emergency box for years, the axe was rust-covered with a rather dull blade. He wasn’t sure if it could cleave through a zombie’s skull in one strike.

Though he’d mentally prepared himself countless times, when actually facing the moment to split this young miss zombie’s head open with the axe, An Sheng still hesitated.

The largest living creature An Sheng had ever killed before was a grass carp weighing over half a kilogram. Though what stood before him had become a zombie, it was originally a living person—he found himself momentarily unable to strike. But while he hesitated, the zombie felt no such restraint about eating him.

Though the floral-skirt zombie was petite with limited strength, she had still mutated. Moreover, the anti-riot steel ring An Sheng held was made from temporary materials—its quality was predictably shoddy.

During An Sheng’s hesitation, the floral-skirt zombie suddenly broke free from the steel ring’s restraint. This sudden change completely put An Sheng on the defensive. He only had time to swing the fire axe hastily, missing the head entirely.

In his rush, An Sheng’s axe struck the young miss zombie’s chest—unfortunately landing precisely between two fleshy mounds.

The axe’s weight combined with An Sheng’s strength proved too much for the zombie’s thin floral dress and bra to withstand.

An Sheng stood utterly dumbfounded. The direct damage caused by this axe strike was the clothing being torn away by the weapon’s force, falling to her legs, leaving the young miss zombie’s upper body completely exposed to the air.

To put it plainly, the scene became far too provocative. An Sheng could clearly see that this young miss zombie had quite a figure—at least a D-cup!But he had no time to appreciate this tantalizing scene now. The young miss zombie was lunging toward An Sheng, her dress tangled around her legs becoming a tripping hazard. The result was the young miss zombie collapsing entirely into An Sheng’s arms!

In the past, this would have been a scene straight out of an adult film—a seductive beauty throwing herself into his embrace, their eyes meeting like kindling catching fire, with unspeakable scenes about to unfold! But under the current circumstances, it was pure horror. Because what the young miss zombie offered An Sheng was a foul, beast-like mouth eager to devour him.

Unable to dodge in time, An Sheng was bitten squarely. The makeshift protection he had earlier proved utterly useless. Excruciating pain shot through his upper arm as the young miss zombie’s immense bite force tore through his clothing and ripped away a large chunk of flesh.

Pain—searing, heart-wrenching pain! Crimson blood instantly gushed from the torn wound, soaking through An Sheng’s clothes in mere moments.

The intense agony rendered his entire left arm temporarily uncontrollable. Fear and despair now flooded his mind, paralyzing him with terror.

An Sheng stood frozen, staring blankly at his injured left arm, unable to react. Meanwhile, the young miss zombie had already chewed and swallowed the flesh from his arm, her foul mouth opening once more to reveal two rows of sharp, metallic teeth.

Unnoticed by the stunned An Sheng, his pupils began to change. Their original black hue deepened into a bloody red, and a faint crimson mist started to emanate from his body. As the mist spread, the room’s temperature rapidly soared.

An Sheng felt as if his brain were splitting apart. An immense force erupted within his mind, flowing down his neck and surging through his entire body. The sides of his forehead felt especially stifled, as if something were trying to burst through the skin. His skin gradually transformed, first flushing red, then deepening in color until it took on an eerie purple shade.

Just as his body turned completely deep purple, An Sheng heard a soft snap. The unbearable swelling in his head instantly eased, and from the bare skin on either side of his forehead, a pair of antelope-like horns sprouted!

The excruciating pain in his left arm vanished, replaced by a warm, tingling sensation. Along with the pain, his feelings of fear and despair disappeared.

Now, An Sheng radiated an unprecedented, powerful aura. The wound inflicted by the young miss zombie healed at a visible pace, restoring completely in just two seconds.

After transforming into his Demon Form, An Sheng’s height and physique underwent significant changes. Originally 1.8 meters tall, he now stood over two meters. His once somewhat flabby build was replaced by solid, perfectly defined purple muscles. The clothes and protective gear on his upper body, unable to withstand the muscular power of his transformed form, burst apart—along with the young miss zombie’s teeth. The young miss zombie at this moment was truly a pitiful sight. Its steel-like teeth had been completely shattered and fallen out, now resembling a toothless old woman with a deformed face. Dark brown filthy blood mixed with broken teeth flowed all over the ground, making anyone who saw it unconsciously feel pain on its behalf – though of course, zombies cannot feel pain.

Pain and fear had completely vanished, replaced by brutality and bloodlust! An Sheng’s only thought now was slaughter. The powerful force once again took control of his body, but unlike last time when he completely lost consciousness, An Sheng still retained a sliver of rationality this time.

He clearly sensed that if his power couldn’t be released, his remaining rationality would soon disappear entirely. Fortunately, there were many targets for him to vent on – like this toothless, naked young miss zombie before him, or the many more zombies downstairs.

An Sheng grabbed the young miss zombie’s head with one hand. With just a slight exertion, the zombie’s skull burst open like a ripe watermelon. Dark brown filthy blood mixed with discolored brain matter splattered all over An Sheng. Had this been before, he would have been nauseated and vomiting profusely at such a scene. But after transforming into a demon, An Sheng thoroughly enjoyed this brutal killing process. It seemed the demon’s form not only granted An Sheng tremendous power, but also greatly influenced his emotions.
