Chapter 27: Medusa VS Purifier (Part 1)

Volume 1 “Year of Calamity”

“Lowly Infected Body, cease your futile struggles. Surrendering to us is your best option.” Andre flung a Fire Snake measuring one meter in diameter and over ten meters in length while relentlessly taunting Medusa.

“Insufferable noise!” Medusa snorted coldly, swiftly dodging the Fire Snake’s attack.

The blazing flames scorched the turf before her into blackened earth while continuously baking her scaled slender form. Having only recently regained sentience, Medusa remained unaccustomed to her new body, resulting in her current passive position.

Yet as the battle progressed, she gradually familiarized herself with her newfound physical capabilities. Like An Sheng, higher Mutants such as them possessed immense latent potential within their bodies, with combat serving as the key to unlocking it!

“Death Ray!” Suddenly shifting from pure evasion, Medusa revealed a sinister smile and let out a sharp cry as two crimson beams shot forth from her pupils.

This was the first ability Medusa unlocked through combat. In ancient Greek mythology, the banshee Medusa possessed a Heaven-Defying power: any being who met her gaze would instantly turn to stone. Though the mutated Medusa hadn’t developed this petrifying ability, she evolved energy beams similar to Superman’s to assault enemies – and her capabilities extended far beyond this!

Andre easily dodged the Death Rays, soon realizing it wasn’t due to his exceptional reflexes – the beams weren’t aimed at him. Medusa’s true target was Yalan, hiding behind Andre!

Though Yalan possessed the Heaven-Defying “Bulwark” ability, her physical strength and speed barely surpassed ordinary humans. Facing the twin Death Rays, she could only instinctively activate her Superpower to block the attack. At this precise moment, Medusa’s second assault followed immediately!

“Banshee’s Wail!”

The massive sonic attack made the ground within the protective barrier tremble violently. The powerful force materialized into tangible air distortions, sweeping across everything before Medusa.

Andre had no time to react as the shockwave sent him flying backward. His body tumbled like a severed kite in the chaotic airflow, ultimately catapulting beyond the barrier Yalan had created.

Yalan fared no better – while her ability neutralized the shockwave’s damage, the sonic attack contained more than mere force. The deafening sound ruptured her eardrums, sending twin trails of crimson blood dripping from her earlobes to form vivid red pearls upon the earth beneath her feet.

This marked Medusa’s flawless counterattack. Mutants inherently possessed exceptional combat aptitude, and upon evolving intelligence rivaling humans, Medusa relied not merely on Mutated Creature instincts but also the strategies, patience, and precise timing unique to sentient beings in seizing fleeting opportunities during battle.Initially, although Medusa was constantly on the defensive, she was carefully observing her opponents’ abilities and fighting styles.

Andre led the attacks while Yalan focused on defense. Their complementary abilities indeed gave Medusa considerable trouble. However, even while being attacked, the Mutant’s sharp combat intuition allowed her to identify both opponents’ weaknesses.

First, Andre possessed powerful offensive capabilities but had weak defenses and unremarkable physical attributes. As long as she could land a hit, Medusa was confident she could severely injure him with a single strike!

As for Yalan, her “Bulwark” Superpower granted her near-absolute defensive capabilities while also enabling her to protect her companion. But Medusa discovered a flaw in her ability: each activation required a one-second cooldown before reuse.

More importantly, Medusa noticed Yalan’s barriers only affected enemies – they offered no resistance to Andre. She had personally witnessed Andre’s flames passing through the barrier to attack her.

Did this mean the large barrier isolating her from the outside world worked the same way? Medusa’s guess proved correct!

Using her Death Ray to prevent Yalan from protecting Andre in time, while simultaneously employing sonic attacks to blast Andre beyond the barrier’s protection range – outside stood thousands of Mutated Creatures constantly assaulting the barrier.

The ability to gather and subjugate so many Mutated Creatures stemmed from another of Medusa’s Talent Abilities, a common power among all Mutated Creatures that evolved to Lord Level – “Domination.”

This ability allowed Lord-level Mutated Creatures to enslave all lower-ranked Mutated Creatures within their Pheromone coverage area, granting absolute leadership and control. This genetic-level domination meant even commands to die would meet no resistance.

In life-or-death battles, seizing a single counterattack opportunity could alter the entire combat situation!

Leveraging her keen insight, Medusa exploited the coordination gap between the two Purifiers, successfully reversing the defensive battle in an instant.

With her eardrums injured and brain concussed from the sonic attack, Yalan struggled to maintain the transparent barrier. The shield protecting against Mutated Creatures flickered unpredictably, threatening to vanish at any moment. Andre fared worse – caught off guard and directly hit, he was flung outside the barrier into the horde of Mutated Creatures, his fate unknown.

As the saying goes, “Make hay while the sun shines.” How could Medusa miss this perfect opportunity? Activating her “Domination” ability, she issued a single command: kill the male Purifier! Every Mutated Creature on Lake Heart Island turned its focus toward Andre.

Watching the battle on Lake Heart Island through military binoculars, An Sheng was astonished by the Purifiers’ powerful Superpowers. But when he witnessed the female Mutant instantly reverse the battle situation, he became completely awestruck by this Mutant’s formidable strength.To seize an opportunity in such a passive situation and instantly identify the Evolver’s weakness—An Sheng felt ashamed of his own lack of such keen insight.
