Chapter 52: Flying Blood Corpse
Chapter 52: Flying Blood Corpse
Volume 1 “Year of Calamity”
“An Sheng, respond if you receive this! An Sheng, respond if you receive this!” Zhou Xiaoxiao was using the walkie-talkie to call An Sheng, but unfortunately, his current location was likely beyond the maximum communication range. They needed to return immediately because there were severely injured patients requiring urgent treatment.
“Still no response? Should we head back to Huan’an first? The county town has a hospital where you can perform surgery on the injured. Wasn’t it agreed we’d gather in the county town anyway?” Xun Lili urged Zhou Xiaoxiao, knowing the girl was worried about An Sheng, but the patients’ conditions were clearly more critical.
“Alright.”
Though somewhat reluctant, Zhou Xiaoxiao understood the priorities and stopped hesitating, beginning to help Liu Pengyu carry the injured.
Just as everyone was busy carrying people, suddenly, a beastly roar resembling a tiger’s cry echoed! Everyone was startled, turning to look toward the source of the sound. Hovering in the air above them was a zombie with a pair of bat wings.
There was no doubt it was a zombie, but an unusual one with bat wings growing from its back, surrounded by a thick crimson mist. Nie Chong remembered An Sheng saying that mutated creatures could only release pheromones after evolving into advanced mutants. An Sheng was like this, Pighead Three was too – in other words, the monster before them was a powerful being no weaker than An Sheng.
What they didn’t notice was that one of the mutant zombie’s eyes was the characteristic gray-white of zombies, while the other was blood-red, identical to An Sheng’s. If Medusa were here, she would tell Nie Chong that this wasn’t an ordinary advanced mutant, but a mutant on the verge of evolving into a lord.
It was like adding insult to injury – they had been plagued by troubles all day. They least wanted the escape pod to appear in Longjiang, yet it ended up there; after finally managing to lead away Longjiang’s corpse sea, they encountered an advanced mutant – their luck couldn’t be worse!
“Peng Yu, take the injured and Doctor Zhou and run!”
Nie Chong shouted, and in the next moment, the armor on his full-coverage exoskeleton armor’s left arm flipped open, revealing six black metal barrels. The armor’s auxiliary computer, detecting numerous virus signals, automatically activated overload combat mode. The multi-barrel laser rapid-fire cannon immediately launched an attack at the mutant in the air.
Crimson laser beams with golden electrical currents arrived instantly, causing a massive explosion in the sky. Unlike conventional weapons, laser weapons produced powerful explosions without the black smoke of gunpowder weapons – instead creating white, steam-like mist after detonation.
The power of the laser rapid-fire cannon was undeniably formidable, but Nie Chong knew such firepower still wasn’t enough. The armor on his back deployed, and two mechanical arms extended from beneath the armor, their tips featuring tube-like devices identical to those on mechanical soldiers’ chests. Two particle cannons were charging and would be ready to fire momentarily.Nie Chong was the first to launch an attack against the Mutant Zombie hovering mid-air. Naturally, Xun Lili wasn’t idle either. Her speed and strength far surpassed that of ordinary humans like Zhou Xiaoxiao and Liu Pengyu. With one hand, she lifted the unconscious Ye Rong from the ground and swiftly dashed toward the Armored Assault Vehicle, quickly catching up with Liu Pengyu, who was running ahead.
However, the Mutant Zombie had no intention of letting them escape so easily. A black sphere shot out rapidly from the white mist in the air, targeting the Armored Assault Vehicle parked not far away. After all, this Mutant Zombie was an Advanced Mutant on the verge of evolving into a Lord. Though its intelligence wasn’t on par with an adult’s, it possessed at least the intellect of a ten-year-old human child. Combined with the Mutant’s innate grasp of combat timing, it managed to defend against attacks while simultaneously cutting off the enemy’s retreat.
“Watch out!”
The three people running couldn’t see what was happening behind them, but Nie Chong saw it clearly. He didn’t know the exact power of that black sphere, but Mutants were generally formidable—especially after watching the combat footage of Li Guoan and Medusa, he had grown even more wary of their strength.
Fortunately, Nie Chong’s warning came just in time. The three of them, dragging two injured companions, immediately dropped to the ground. A massive explosion followed, hurling the seven-ton Armored Assault Vehicle more than ten meters into the air. The terrifying force was comparable to that of a 100mm caliber artillery shell! It was a pity for An Sheng’s favorite Armored Assault Vehicle, now reduced to a pile of scrap metal.
“Head to that Escape Pod!” Xun Lili scrambled to her feet, realizing their retreat was cut off. The only cover left was that steel cube!
Zhou Xiaoxiao was terrified. She had never experienced such a perilous situation before. Though she didn’t scream like some other girls might, her face was pale and her legs felt weak. If Liu Pengyu hadn’t been holding her tightly, she probably wouldn’t have had the strength to walk. Xun Lili, embodying the prowess of a female Captain America, was in her element—carrying one injured person in each hand, she still moved with remarkable speed.
At the same time Nie Chong and the others engaged the Mutant Zombie, several kilometers away, atop a giant boulder on a mountain peak, An Sheng encountered the last person he wanted to see—Medusa!
Medusa looked at An Sheng with a charming smile and said flirtatiously, “Little one, we meet again. How have you been lately? Have you missed your big sister? Hahahaha…”
An Sheng thought to himself, The heavens are really playing too big a joke on me. I didn’t even dare to transform into a Demon just to avoid this plague, and yet I still couldn’t escape her. Does this even give people a chance to survive? Though that’s what he thought, he didn’t dare say it out loud. After the initial shock, An Sheng had no choice but to put on that shameless expression again, grinning obsequiously at the queenly Medusa before him.
“Queen Sister, hello there! Long time no see, long time no see.”
“Little one, it was you who lured the Zombies into the town, wasn’t it? You know, because of you, we almost ended up with another Lord.” Medusa glanced at the Corpse Tide swarming over the mountains and continued mockingly, “Your little friends are probably playing with that disgusting creature right now.”An Sheng inwardly cursed in dismay. What did a Quasi-Lord mean? He himself was an Advanced Mutant, and his strength could completely overwhelm Nie Chong and Xun Lili, so that Quasi-Lord must be even stronger than him! Nie Chong and the others were in danger now! Thinking of this, An Sheng could no longer remain calm. Those few people in the town below the mountain were his family—he absolutely could not let anything happen to them!
An Sheng turned to head down the mountain, but wanting to leave wasn’t so easy. Medusa would be the first to disagree. She said to An Sheng with some annoyance, “Little one, it’s not easy for me, your sister, to see you once. You want to leave after just one sentence? That’s not polite!”
“Queen Sister, I beg you, my friends are in danger now—I have to go help!” An Sheng was extremely anxious at the moment, but he didn’t dare to turn hostile against Medusa. After all, he had to stay alive to rescue Nie Chong and the others.
“What use would you be going? With your ability, you’d probably just be delivering yourself as a meal to that guy. Better stay and chat with your sister.” As she spoke, Medusa elegantly sat down on a rock, not forgetting to cast a flirtatious glance at An Sheng.
As a Lord, Medusa’s perception ability far surpassed An Sheng’s. She could even sense the actual strength of that winged zombie—that guy was considerably stronger than the An Sheng she had seen before. Medusa had no intention of letting An Sheng go to his death. After all, this little one was the man she had her eye on; she still wanted to breed the next generation with An Sheng. If An Sheng died, where would she find another such interesting little fellow?
“Queen Sister, I really don’t have time to chat with you—they are my family!”
Every second of delay meant more danger for Nie Chong and the others—An Sheng couldn’t afford to waste time! Even if the opponent was a Quasi-Lord, he had to go. If they were going to die, they might as well die together. Pulling the Nepalese Kukri from his back, An Sheng decisively stabbed it into his own arm.
“Oh my, after not seeing you for so long, you’ve grown quite a bit stronger, little one. Wait a moment—you actually have the aura of a Purifier on you too, hahaha… As expected of the man I, Medusa, have chosen. Alright, you may go. However, since your potential is so good, I’ll add a little difficulty for you too.”
After saying this, Medusa snapped her fingers, and a blood-red, semi-transparent light sphere enveloped the loudspeaker and battery. The next moment, the light sphere and Medusa’s body rose into the air together.
Mid-air, Medusa said to An Sheng with a playful tone, “I’m going to toss this back into the town. You have to rescue your little friends before the Corpse Tide returns to the town Hahahaha…”
After speaking, Medusa swiftly flew away with the light sphere and disappeared into the valley.
“You pervert!”
An Sheng understood what Medusa meant—she was going to lure the zombie army back to the town. In other words, he had to rescue Nie Chong and the others before the zombie army reached Longjiang. Otherwise, once the Corpse Sea returned, everything would be over. By then, even if Nie Chong and the others weren’t killed by that Quasi-Lord, they would be drowned by the hundreds of thousands of zombies in the Corpse Sea!
