Chapter 202 – Dragon and Demon Race

Chapter 202 – Dragon and Demon Race

Far above in the sky, there was a Dragon. It was at such a high altitude that I could only make out its silhouette, but it would surely descend soon.

The battle between the Demon Race and the Dragon was finally about to begin… just as I thought that, the Demon Race also noticed the Dragon and cried out.

“Garuku, how do you think the Demon Race will fight?”

“The dragons that attack here will probably be a species with some magic resistance. The basic book will be a battle where brute strength matters… Either way, there’s no choice but to fight head-on.”

Immediately after Garuku made that statement, I saw monsters on the ground leaping into the sky. Flying monsters, including griffins with lion bodies and eagle heads, began to move all at once.

“Battle has begun.”

Garuku says… but from my perspective, it’s not a battle, it’s a war.

The winged monsters charged towards the dragons without hesitation. Meanwhile, the shadow of the dragon in the sky remained stationary, as if circling. However, the shadow was gradually getting larger, so it seemed to be descending.

Well, what will happen…? As I watched, a roar came from above. Not a monster, but a dragon’s voice—

The next moment, flames erupted in the sky. Probably a Flame Breath—the explosive attack obliterated many monsters with surprising ease.

“As expected, they won’t be defeated by mere monsters.”

Garuku says. But monsters and demons continue to fly up, and the demon races are also beginning to move.

However, the dragon’s power is considerable, and charging in would only reduce the number of monsters. What will they do next?

“—More are coming.”

At that moment, Garuku’s voice. The instant I wondered what was happening, I saw more dragon shadows arriving from the west.

There were about five of them. While that number might not seem like much, each of them appeared massive from a distance. They were undoubtedly a threat even to the demon races.

Eventually, the demon race side also noticed the situation. They moved their monsters and prepared for interception—and the high-ranking demons spread their wings to fly.

Then, the dragons finally arrived. The first dragon to appear still maintained a considerable altitude, but the five dragons were at a height easily visible to the naked eye. Moreover, three of them descended rapidly.

The demons prepared to counter—but a demon race leader raised their voice, stopping the demons’ movements.

Here, the dragons landed to confront the army—it seemed they intended to talk first.

“I thought there might be a festival, so I came, but it’s nothing. Just a gathering of monsters, huh?”

The lead dragon of the three spoke. A dragon with crimson skin and scales. There are several red dragons in the game, but since they’ve never spoken, this might be a different species.

“What kind of evil scheme are you planning, gathered here?”

The dragon growled menacingly and asked. Then,

“—I never expected a dragon to visit.”

A demon race leader, clad entirely in black, stepped forward and began to speak.

“However, we unfortunately have an appointment. I apologize, but we must ask you to leave.”

“Whether we leave depends on your purpose.”

“Do you intend to fight here?”

The demon race leader showed unwavering confidence.

“I’ll return those words right back to you. Do you truly believe you can win by making us your enemies?”

“Among your less intelligent kin, there are dragons who have become our minions. Do you wish to suffer the same fate?”

“—Enough of this pointless arguing. I ask again. What is your purpose?”

“An action to bring an end to this continent.”

A stern voice. The dragon let out a muffled laugh in response.

“You, to end this continent? That’s beyond a joke. You were the ones who conquered the humans’ Capital City, weren’t you? After being repelled and fleeing, how dare you speak of ending anything?”

“The fun feast is about to begin.”

The demons exuded killing intent. It felt like they were ready for battle.

“—If you cower and flee, we’ll let you go.”

“Hmph, to think mere dragons believe they can oppose us is utterly laughable.”

“Shall we show you then? Don’t blame us if you become paralyzed with fear.”

Immediately after those words, I understood—it was difficult to discern the demon race leader’s expression from a distance. And it was also hard to tell what kind of expression the dragon was showing.

But I was certain. The glaring dragon and demon race leader were both showing ferocious smiles.

“Kill them.”

The Demon Race’s declaration. At the same time, the Dragons all roared in unison.

“It’s starting.”

Garuku said. The Dragon who had been talking at the front raised its claw at the Demon Race. But the opponent avoided it, and the Demons rushed forward.

However, Flame Breath was unleashed from the mouths of the two Dragons behind them. The Demons took the full force of it—some individuals were unharmed, but the lower-ranking Demons apparently couldn’t withstand it and vanished, reducing their numbers.

But the Demon Race also began to move, not to be outdone. Monsters charged towards the Dragons. Moreover, upper-class Demons successively took flight, moving to respond even in the air.

In response, the Dragons in the sky launched an attack. They descended rapidly, unleashing Flame Breath. It became a pincer attack, trapping the flying Demons between the ground and the air.

Naturally, the Demons moved to evade—but the momentum of the Breath Attack didn’t just affect the Demons; it also rained down on the ground.

“Hey, hey, are you sure about this…!?”

“Of course, it’s probably an action calculated to have no problems.”

Garuku’s calm explanation. Immediately after, several Demons were seen plummeting, and the Dragons on the ground unleashed follow-up Breath Attacks on the Demons.

From a distance, it might seem like the Dragons were dominating, but as we watched, the Dragons went even more on the offensive.

Many Flame Breaths were unleashed. Their attack range was a threat, and the Monsters seemed to be struggling to cope.

Just when I thought they might be able to push through, a Lightning Strike was unleashed on one of the Dragons.

It enveloped the Dragon’s entire body, paralyzing it temporarily. It was Magic unleashed by the Demon Race… there was no doubt it caused damage, but still, the Dragon retaliated.

“…Are the Dragons here Elite Guards?”

Suddenly, I voiced a question.

“I understand the strength of Dragons, but the Demon Race and Monsters aren’t weak either. Yet, they’re in a superior position—”

“As Lord Ruon predicted, it’s certain that strong Dragons have gathered.”

Garuku replied.

“Not all of the Dragon Race are as strong as those before us. You must understand that these individuals were gathered to fight the Demon Race’s army.”

“I see… Oh, the Demon Race side has started to retreat.”

Due to the Dragons’ fierce assault, the Demon Race and Monsters gradually retreated from the front lines. From the perspective of the Demon Race, who had thrown down the gauntlet, it was a complete loss of face, but they probably couldn’t afford to completely lose their forces here. They cut their losses quickly.

“Are they running?”

The Dragon spoke as if mocking them. But the Demon Race didn’t take the bait and silently chose to retreat further.

The Dragon continued to unleash Breath Attacks, but it didn’t advance. Their quick withdrawal might be due to caution about a trap.

The Demon Race’s movements weren’t particularly chaotic, so there’s a good chance they’re luring them in—

“…Hmm?”

At that moment, a report came from a Familiar. That Familiar was—

“Garuku.”

“What’s wrong?”

“It seems a slight problem has occurred. I’m going to resolve it now, is that alright?”

“That’s fine. It seems the battle is a victory for the Dragons.”

As Garuku said, with the overwhelming Dragon attacks, the Demon Race had begun a full retreat. Some members of the Demon Race had already left the front lines, and the Demon Race who had initially spoken with the Dragon seemed to be serving as the rearguard.

It looked like a one-sided battle… but the Demon Race’s movements were extremely calm. How much did they calculate before choosing to retreat when the Dragons attacked—

“Lord Ruon, will you be able to make it in time if you move now for this problem?”

Garuku asked further. I nodded in response,

“Yes… it won’t take long. In fact, it’s right near here.”

“Right near? In that case—”

Before Garuku could finish, I nodded vigorously.

Orudia, who was on reconnaissance, was discovered by a Monster. I’m going to go support him.
