The next moment, spikes appeared in front of the monsters on the front line, impaling them. It’s impossible to break the front line with a single spell, but the sudden attack caused some confusion among the monsters. I succeeded in slowing their advance.

I continuously used the same Magic, defeating the monsters on the front line. I’m not using my full power yet, but even at this point, monsters are being annihilated by my Magic. The destructive power is sufficient.

In addition, the raised ground created a physical obstacle. This disrupted their formation and further slowed the monsters’ advance speed.

It had some effect as a diversion—monsters trying to bypass the obstacles and monsters trying to break through them appeared. As a commander, are they trying to split their forces and advance towards us?

Then, I spotted flying demons. Their bodies were dark blue, and they were dual-wielding—these were “Sky Demons” that appear in the latter half of the scenario.

These demons employ a troublesome tactic of attacking from the sky, and naturally, “Erde Force” won’t work against them.

There were three of them. Furthermore, the Demon Wolves began to move in response—and then, the demons charged from the air.

“In the game, I could shoot them down with magic, couldn’t I?”

Thinking that, I extended my left hand towards the approaching demons. At the same time, I used the Wind-attribute Lower-tier Magic, “Wind Slash.” The power is low, and I’m not pouring my full magical power into it yet, so it won’t defeat them—

The three charging demons took the Wind Blades head-on. I had slightly altered the spell, and the moment it hit, a large gust of wind swirled, creating a shockwave. As a result, the demons lost their balance significantly, veering far off course from me, their target, and landed.

At that, the Demon Wolves leaped. Their attack methods seemed to be claws and body slams, but they were increasing their magical power when they charged. It seemed their power was sufficient, and the demons who took the charge flinched significantly.

The demons seemed to try to counterattack, but they were subjected to multiple fierce assaults and ultimately perished without being able to attack… The Demon Wolves’ attack power seems to be excellent.

During that time, I continued to use “Erde Force,” defeating more enemies. The enemy’s front line largely collapsed, and their movement temporarily stopped.

“Alright, with this—”

I continued my incantation—and activated the Ice-attribute Intermediate Magic, “Ice Rain.” As the name suggests, it’s a spell that rains ice. As an intermediate spell, the damage it normally inflicts is moderate… but I poured a little magical power into it to increase its potency.

Above the enemy army, a rain of ice descended. Each piece was like a sharp blade—and in an instant, a scream-like sound from the monsters echoed.

“A good start, isn’t it?”

Garuku said. As he said, I was annihilating the enemies to my heart’s content with magic. I thought it could continue like this, but it seems it’s not that easy.

From the broken front line, a single demon appeared.

“The power of your magic is quite impressive.”

It was a demon knight clad in silver armor. Its golden hair and blue eyes gave it a human-like appearance, making me wonder if there was some kind of model for it.

And in its hand was a greatsword. Its face was stern, leading me to deduce that this was the demon entrusted with this front-line unit.

“But this is as far as you go. I shall eliminate you.”

With a calm tone, the demon ran. I readied my sword, and while continuing my incantation, I waited for the demon to approach.

“Lord Ruon, if you use Resveil, you should be able to probe the demon’s abilities to some extent.”

Suddenly, Garuku’s voice… I directed magical power to Resveil, who was standing by, and immediately received the results.

Its abilities were moderate, and it was certainly weaker compared to someone like Sheldat. However, if I defeated it here, there was a possibility that the front-line unit that had attacked would go berserk.

“…Perhaps it’s a good idea to confirm its behavior once.”

I reached that conclusion—and decided to defeat it.

The demon approached. Its fiercely running figure exuded an aura that suggested ordinary warriors couldn’t contend with it… but I stepped forward.

Seeing that I showed no sign of retreating, it showed a somewhat mocking expression—then closed the distance and swung its sword.

In response, I—first received the sword, then parried it. The demon, having taken my sword strike enhanced with Body Enhancement, changed its expression to one of astonishment.

Its movement to pull back the sword was also slow. I immediately counterattacked, unleashing the general Intermediate Technique, “Belial Slash.” The demon didn’t even have time to defend… and my sword successfully bisected it.

“Gah…”

A groan, or perhaps the cry of pain from a beast. In any case, the demon I had bisected let out a faint sound before disappearing. The demon leading the forces was gone. What would happen now—

The monsters continued to advance, attempting to attack us. There was no sign of them going berserk.

“…It seems different from the time with the Alastin Kingdom.”

“They might have taken countermeasures in advance.”

Garuku speaks. I listen to Garuku’s words while resuming my magic incantation.

“If the demon race leading a unit is destroyed, another demon race will likely step in as a replacement. It seems the demons themselves decided it was too troublesome if their units went berserk every time a demon commander was defeated.”

“That’s highly probable… In that case, if we defeat Sheldat, the supreme commander, they’ll likely go completely berserk.”

“Indeed.”

Listening to Garuku’s agreement, I unleash more Earth Force, defeating the monsters. A considerable number of obstacles have been created.

At that moment, the enemy army’s front line, which was on the verge of collapse, suddenly became frantic. Kobolds and Goblins roared and began their charge.

Their movements were more urgent and faster than before.

“Is the skill of the new commander superior?”

As I muttered that, I realized the monsters’ gazes were fixed on me. They were filled with even more murderous intent than before, and it seemed they intended to focus their attacks on me.

The other monsters also showed no intention of detouring, charging headlong. Their movement was restricted by the raised ground, but seeing them forcefully try to break through it, I gave a wry smile.

“Did they receive orders to run the shortest distance and kill me?”

“Perhaps.”

Garuku says. Here, I sheath my sword.

I could respond with offensive magic, but… after thinking for a moment, I created a spear with magic.

It was the same kind I made during the battle in the underground. In the meantime, hordes of Kobolds and Goblins approached.

I readied my spear and—faster than the Demon Wolves could react to the monsters—I charged forward.

“Hmph!”

With a shout, I swung my spear. I had also imbued the tip with wind power—and as I attacked, wind blades scattered.

It equally destroyed the Kobolds that were about to attack. The sight of them being blown away with each swing might be exhilarating to an observer.

“Lord Ruon, don’t move around too much.”

“It’s fine.”

After my reply, I glance left and right. I see the Demon Wolves easily defeating the monsters that were trying to close in on me from the sides. After confirming that, a report comes from my familiar.

I had positioned familiars to observe the plains from above… and it seems another unit has started to move. And there are quite a lot of them.

“Are they finally getting serious…?”

As I muttered that, I saw demons flying towards me from above. I immediately tried to ready my spear, but Resveil suddenly stepped forward.

“It seems this one also wants to rampage.”

Upon hearing those words… I then gave instructions to my spirits.

“With your power, you should be able to defeat them without going all out. Repel the approaching demons—!”
