Chapter 218 – Further Battles
Chapter 218 – Further Battles
While Resveil blew away monsters with his greatsword, I formed more ice blades with magic. The magic I unleashed without holding back obliterated a large portion of the enemy army’s core.
The Dragon versus Strategy Demon Race was defeated, and dragons continued to reduce the number of monsters with fire and wind breath attacks from above. It wouldn’t have been surprising if other Demon Races leading squads had attacked, but they seemed to be too busy controlling the monsters to actively engage.
“Well, at this rate, it looks like it’ll be over before they can regroup…”
I muttered as I annihilated monsters with magic. The controlling Demon Race also seemed unsure of what to do, with some monsters trying to retreat, others trying to attack us, and still others slow to move as they awaited orders, showing no signs of resolving the confusion.
It would be troublesome if they escaped into the forests on either side of the highway… Fortunately, such cases are rare. Amidst the chaotic situation, I continued to defeat monsters alongside the dragons.
“…Good grief.”
Then I heard Orudia’s voice. I turned my gaze and saw him defeating monsters with the longswords he held in both hands.
“I see, with this much power, if I can just pinpoint the location of the demon race I’m after, I can instantly kill them. I feel like an idiot for thinking so hard about how to infiltrate and break through their army.”
Orudia laughed. He then turned his eyes to me,
“You said you’d tell me the situation, didn’t you?”
“…Yes. There’s no need to hide it anymore.”
Immediately after nodding, I defeated the demons who approached.
Just as I was thinking about switching to a spear, a dragon flew near me. The dragon species with crimson scales looked the same as the dragon that had fought the demon race before.
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
Such a voice came from the dragon. When I nodded back, the dragon roared and unleashed flame breath upon the monsters.
I was a little worried if the forest would catch fire, but the flames didn’t spread to the forest. I wondered if it was being careful not to hit the trees, or if it was imbuing its breath attack with magic power to target only the monsters.
Well, dragons are beings that live with nature, so they must be considerate… I pulled myself together and resumed defeating monsters. However, it had already become a one-sided battle, and the demon race didn’t have many options.
I heard the voices of the demon race giving orders in my ear. Along with that, I heard roars and saw monsters charging without any strategy.
“…There are a lot of them. I guess I can’t keep fighting like the dragon.”
Orudia said. He must be quite exhausted physically, but that doesn’t mean he can keep fighting indefinitely.
“Then step back a little.”
I raised my voice and stood next to him.
“You can have Resveil guard you.”
“Are you going to be alright?”
“Yeah, well. I’ve been training a bit.”
“…To call that ability ‘a bit’ is quite an understatement.”
Orudia even showed a wry smile. After shrugging my shoulders, I cut down a monster that entered my range.
“Alright then. I’ll rest for a bit, but… at this rate, it seems like it’ll be over before I finish resting.”
“The dragon’s pace of defeating them is quite fast… Anyway, leave this to me.”
I began my incantation, staring at the monsters. The demon race, leading their crumbling army, attempted a desperate attack.
In response, I regulated my breathing and resumed combat to end it.
After that, the battle ended in about a few hours. Unlike the battle in the Western Region, we didn’t have them surrounded, so some of the monsters that completely collapsed scattered in all directions.
But the dragon dealt with that. Somehow, the battle ended, and I got to rest my wings a bit with the dragons.
Amidst all this, I spoke to Orudia—this was the first time I was talking to the game’s protagonist. I never imagined Orudia would be the first.
“…There are many unbelievable parts, but I mostly understand.”
After finishing the series of explanations, Orudia muttered.
“Or rather, I have no choice but to accept it, I suppose… But to try to become stronger so as not to die, and this is the result.”
“It’s the result of me thinking about what I could do to save the continent… And, about the Five Great Demons—”
“You said that by defeating them, I, a descendant of a sage, might gain power.”
“Yes. However, there’s a chance you might not get it due to compatibility… So, Garuku.”
“Hmm.”
Young Garuku appeared on my right shoulder.
“Can you verify if you can properly absorb Nostor, the remaining Five Great Demon, and Orudia’s Sage’s Power?”
“It is possible. I will report before we confront the demon race, Nostor.”
“Thank you… Now, Orudia. As I explained, the Demon King has started to move, and Continent-Destroying Magic is about to be unleashed. The Divine Spirits are moving to stop it, and I intend to go there too. What will you do?”
“The Demon King’s Magic, huh… There’s not much I can do, but… if you’d have me, I’ll join you.”
“Alright. Garuku, are you good?”
“I don’t mind.”
“Then it’s settled. We’ll be departing soon… Oh, do you have Movement Magic or anything similar?”
“I have it. I was moving around alone, so I can control it properly.”
Just as I thought, “Good,” I heard Garuku’s voice.
“Lord Ruon, let us decide the procedure from here.”
“Procedure?”
“Currently, Lord Ruon’s power must have been grasped… but it seems they haven’t noticed that we are still setting up our strategy.”
“…Resveil has Divine Spirit Power, right? Is there a possibility that they’ve grasped it from that?”
“From my perspective, such power was not exposed. There is no problem.”
…Well, if they had grasped it, it wouldn’t be strange for the Demon King’s movements to have changed more.
“If our existence is detected, there is a high possibility that the Demon King will significantly change his movements. If things go wrong, he might even try to counter the strategy we are currently implementing… To prevent that, we will hide until the very last moment.”
“Understood… Now then.”
I shifted my gaze to the Dragons resting their bodies.
“Garuku, have you heard what the Dragons want to do?”
“It seems they intend to go to the place where the Demon King is headed, along with Lord Ruon.”
“Then, on the surface, it will be me, Orudia, and the Dragons… Even if the Demon King feels wary, he’ll probably think that he can’t do anything about the magic sealed in the earth.”
“Because it’s not magic on a scale that Dragons or Humans can handle. No matter how much power Lord Ruon possesses, he will surely conclude it’s impossible.”
“In that case, the Demon King won’t change his policy either… Shall we go?”
Immediately after, the roar of a Dragon was heard. Was it a war cry to raise morale? Other Dragons also began to respond.
“…By the way, may I ask something?”
Orudia suddenly asked.
“What’s happening with the battle in the Southern Region?”
“…It seems the battle has begun.”
There was a report while I was fighting with the Dragons. After the armies in the Western Region and Northern Region were crushed, they began to move… Although the pincer attack was gone, their numbers were still massive compared to the armies in the west and north. I had prepared for the possibility of not being there, and that proved successful, as they are fighting well.
“After we defeat the Demon King’s Magic, let’s head south.”
At my words, Garuku suddenly gave a wry smile.
“It’s battle after battle, isn’t it?”
“It’s the crucial moment, so it can’t be helped.”
“Lord Ruon, are you alright?”
“Yes… Orudia, let’s go.”
Seeing him nod in return, I began the incantation and used Movement Magic. At the same time, the Dragons also started moving.
