Chapter 221 – The Demon King’s Appearance
Chapter 221 – The Demon King's Appearance
As the dragons defeat the demons, a presence draws near…incomparable to Nostor, the master of that power is—
“Speaking of which, I haven’t asked something important.”
Garuku suddenly begins to speak.
“The Demon King’s name never came out at all, did it?”
“Ah, indeed.”
I nod.
“Did he have a name?”
It seems there is one. However, its name in the story was ‘Demon King of the Abyss’…
Rather than not revealing their names, the Demon Race kept them hidden because they felt it was “too awe-inspiring.” Even the setting documents were thorough, stating, “They have names, but we won’t reveal them,” so it seems the creators intended it.
Well, you know, there’s always a chance someone might try to do something using their name, so I’m sure the Demon King was careful too.
Hmm, I see… But the magic power I can feel up close is truly impressive, as expected.
Along with the Demon King’s presence, I spotted enemy figures. They seem to be leading Demons and such, similar to Nostor, but their numbers aren’t very large.
For the Demon King, it must be nothing but unexpected developments.
Orudia suddenly announced.
His armies in the Western Region and Northern Region were successively defeated, and even Nostor was destroyed… The Southern Region is controlled by humans, so the only force he can effectively use is the Demon King himself.
Well, that’s why he’s trying to cast a spell that could reverse all of that.
I said… It’s true that we’ve advanced the war to this advantageous point. It wouldn’t be strange for the Demon King to be agitated, but I don’t detect such emotions from the magic power emanating from him. Perhaps it’s the confidence that comes with having Continent-Destroying Magic.
While I was thinking, the Demons under Nostor were annihilated by the Dragon. And perhaps sensing the Demon King’s presence, they retreated far back.
…Garuku, tell the Dragons not to interfere.
Of course, I’m doing that. What will Lord Ruon do?
His power must undoubtedly be from a Book… Well, it wouldn’t hurt to try and see if my attacks work on him.
I lightly rolled my shoulders. Then I took a step forward, gripping my sword tightly.
Orudia, please stand back.
…Don’t die.
Yeah, I know.
Immediately after nodding, I heard the roar of Demons. And several Demons charged at us.
—Demons clad in blood-red armor. Their heads were goat-like, and they wielded longswords with crimson blades, just like their armor, as they approached.
Their name is “Fatal Demon.” They are Demons that appear in the Demon King’s Castle, the final dungeon, and they are quite troublesome opponents.
As expected, the quality of monsters guarding the Demon King’s person is different.
I muttered, staring at the approaching Demons. The leading Demon horizontally swung its sword, unleashing a “Belial Slash.” It was an Intermediate Technique, but its power, given their abilities, should be considerable.
However, I calmly parried it and then counterattacked. Responding in kind, I used a “Belial Slash,” easily cleaving the Demon’s body in two.
Immediately, more enemies flew in. All of them were Monsters that appeared in the Last Dungeon, but they were no match for me.
I activated the Light Attribute Intermediate Magic “Durandal.” With a magnificent flash of the Light Sword, all the Monsters within range were obliterated.
The Monsters coming from behind met the same fate. Occasionally, some tried to slip past me, but I dealt with them calmly. There were no casualties, and it seemed like their annihilation was only a matter of time.
At that moment,
“—An interesting Human.”
A muffled yet clear voice, reminiscent of a noble person.
The Monsters stopped attacking and retreated. In that time, what appeared before me was a being with a presence and physique easily twice my size, clad in Jet Black armor.
Whether one perceives that as large or small is subjective, but the magic power it exuded was terrifyingly dense, and to some, it might appear far more massive than its physical form.
The armor had almost no ornamentation, but it occasionally glowed faintly in response to magic power. And its face was covered by a mask with no mouth or eyes, making its true face impossible to see.
“…Are you the Demon King?”
“Indeed.”
The Demon King replied—its appearance was the same as in the game. While it’s common for final bosses to be massive, that wasn’t the case in this particular game.
“Human, I’ve heard of your exploits from others.”
“Thanks. So, did the Demon King personally come to punish me?”
The Demon King didn’t answer my question. Instead, it raised its right hand and generated magic power.
It wasn’t an attack, but rather it used its own magic power to create a sword. A Greatsword materialized in its hand, further increasing its intimidating presence.
“You’ve come here to destroy me as I make my way to the Humans, haven’t you?”
“Well… yeah.”
I ready my sword. A one-on-one battle with the Demon King… From an outsider’s perspective, it’s a completely reckless situation.
Now, what to do—the moment I thought that, the Demon King moved. In an instant, he closed the distance and swung down vertically.
I reacted immediately and dodged sideways. But the Demon King countered, following my movement. I met it head-on—and parried it.
“Oh?”
A counterattack at the same time as the Demon King’s mutter. I threw away the sword I was holding and activated “Durandal.”
A sweeping slash. The Demon King met it head-on. I applied Magic Enhancement to its limit—and sent the Demon King’s body flying.
“In terms of power, am I the victor?”
“Who knows?”
As I heard his voice, I stepped in further and swung my Light Sword. The Demon King’s Greatsword reacted quickly and met my attack, but I pushed back even harder.
Here, I deactivated my Magic. I immediately began an Incantation… The Demon King took a stance but didn’t move.
Is it confidence, or provocation—I used the Magic of “Ice Spirit Sword” and created a new sword in my hand.
I continued the Incantation. The Demon King still didn’t move. Is he planning to withstand all my attacks?
“Come at me, Human.”
Then—I approached and unleashed my sword. The Demon King took it again. Again, by my blow imbued with Body Enhancement, he was repelled.
There, I unleashed Light attribute Advanced Magic, “Gungnir.”
Just as the light seemed to converge in an instant, it directly struck the Demon King’s body, which was left open when his sword was parried. In a flash, light spread around, and a roar erupted. The Shockwave engulfed even the surrounding land, temporarily obscuring the Demon King’s figure.
I immediately retreated. When I returned to where Orudia was, I let out a small sigh.
“It would be easy if that finished him off… but it seems it’s not that simple after all.”
The smoke cleared. Thanks to the Magic Barrier powered by Sage’s Power, the Demon King was unharmed.
“……More powerful Magic might work, you know?”
“Don’t be silly. If you were that confident, I’d know. You’re certain my attacks won’t work, aren’t you?”
The Demon King didn’t answer my words, but the aura he exuded confirmed it.
“……It seems you’ve caught on.”
Demon King’s Words. When I shrugged my shoulders, the Demon King let out a muffled laugh.
“So you attacked me, hoping for a sliver of hope… Your power is impressive, but you’ve misjudged.”
The Demon King spoke. Immediately after, I felt Magic Power from beneath my feet.
“Furthermore, you’re mistaken about one thing. I didn’t come here just to wage war.”
“Do you have some trump card?”
“That’s right.”
The Power Sleeping Underground is clearly moving. So the Demon King is finally about to activate his Magic, huh?
“……If it’s a Strategy set up by the Demon King, there’s nothing I, a Human, can do about it. Are you saying I should bring Spirits?”
“Even that wouldn’t be enough… Indeed, if you summoned a Spirit God, it might be an even match.”
“I see. Then—”
I slowly took a breath and declared.
“I’ll give you what you wish for.”
“What?”
The moment he asked again—Divine Spirits’ Magic appeared on these Plains.
