Chapter 181
Chapter 181
After seeing Flora off, Iris said she wanted to see the guild’s Stonehenge, meaning the guild room.
When the guild was first established, there was no suitable place, so we had set the administrative manager’s office in the orchard as the guild room. She said she hadn’t been able to see it before because when we visited the 28th terrarium, due to my urgent request, I had gone straight to the 16th terrarium right after meeting Daisy2 at the entrance.
Even calling it a suitable place, it was only the least damaged spot; the office had also suffered major fire damage from fire bugs. I worry that everyone might be disappointed seeing the room full of charred, blackened objects. I led the guild members to the former administrative manager Scarecrow’s office.
Opening the door, contrary to my concerns, it was somewhat tidied up. It seemed the hands of Viburnum had touched it when she took the portrait of Scarecrow.
“Wow, this is our guild’s Stonehenge!”
The state of the room was far from good, but Iris and the other guild members seemed quite satisfied.
“Now that this is our guild’s own space, can we decorate it as we like? I’d like a folding bed. So I can catch a quick nap when I visit after a mission. Of course, an inn is fine too, but after a long journey, I have no strength left to move.”
Iris pointed to one side of the room and made a circling gesture with her hand.
“A sofa would be nice too. But not cloth. The Beggarticks’s Needle would ruin it. A spacious dining table would be good as well.”
As Herma looked around, Zeffer made a hurt expression. He crept up to me like a dog with its tail tucked and started talking.
“Master, if our Beggarticks’s Needle happens to poke a few small holes here and there… will my allowance be cut? She’s a good kid, just sometimes can’t control herself. Even if she pokes holes, we can sew them back up…”
“If Master Jae fills this place with furniture, wouldn’t she only use the really expensive stuff? Then you might lose 100 diamonds every time you summon the Beggarticks’s Needle! So tell her to fix that habit.”
“100 diamonds… I was worried she’d feel neglected if I didn’t summon her for a long time, but thinking about it, the terrarium artifact is probably more comfortable inside. I’m fine just seeing my dryad through the artifact.”
“No thought of changing her habits?”
Decorating the guild room… that sounds cool too. What kind of furniture normally fills a guild room? Since everyone has their own wallet, a safe probably isn’t necessary.
Not everyone stays here all the time, so to prevent dust buildup, wouldn’t it be best to keep it as simple as possible? Influenced by them, I found myself getting absorbed into decorating the guild room.
But unless a craftsman moves into our terrarium right away, it’ll take a long time to seriously decorate. That’s a bit of a shame.
If we decorate the guild room, I’d like to do it when all guild members are together. Combining everyone’s preferences, wouldn’t it become a truly cozy place?
“Master Druid, another visitor has come to our terrarium!”
Daisy 2, who had left the orchard after just seeing the Marguerite bloom, worried that the Dandelion Kids were being too quiet and might be causing trouble somewhere, came back with a bright face.
“A visitor?”
“Yes! They say they’re a druid who came here on a real journey, not as a worker. Has word about the 28th terrarium already spread everywhere? What if countless people suddenly want to move here? Shouldn’t we hire people for the orchard as soon as possible? Since the orchard is the face of the terrarium…”
“Calm down. It’s not like that many people will come rushing in yet. We haven’t even formally placed any promotional requests.”
If we go down to the back terrarium, there’s the Iris party too, who commissioned us to promote the terrarium relocation as a side task. I didn’t think our terrarium had anything major to become famous for.
Anyway, a druid who came here while traveling. What kind of person could they be?
I picked up my phone and popped up a window showing the terrarium’s information. Excluding those registered as guild members and workers, there was exactly one name on the visitor list.
[Rowella]. Class 8. It also had a mark indicating a fresh-faced visitor. What even is a fresh-faced visitor? The dryad they own is a thistle.
Mentioning thistle reminded me of one person. A newbie I met on the way to the 26th terrarium after completing a quest.
Back then, I was also low-level, but seeing a druid even lower-level than me made me so happy. Since they carefully cherished a normal-grade thistle, I did a little bit of ‘sleeve-stuffing’ for them.
Come to think of it, where might that newbie be traveling now?
I found out the newbie’s whereabouts quickly. That’s because the first visiting adventure druid to our terrarium really was that newbie.
The newbie was lingering timidly here and there in a weary state, not far from the terrarium entrance. In the time since we parted, that newbie must have gone through a lot. But judging by their bright face compared to their shabby appearance, it seemed they had enjoyed the adventure well.
I was just going to greet the newbie, but thinking the sightseeing was over, I said to the guild members who followed me in a crowd out of the orchard.
“How about you all take a look around the terrarium since you’re already here? Today might be the last day we can really rest with so much work to do, so think of it as getting a day off and take a carefree walk. Oh, of course, there might not be much to see since we’re under construction.”
“Then I’ll head back to the guild Stonehenge and think more about how to decorate it. If a bucket list comes up, I can be sure to bring things when visiting other terrariums.”
Iris scurried back to the orchard with Herma. Zephyr, whom I thought would join us, stayed behind and was glancing at Daisy2.
“I heard there are tons of sap fountains here, the kind you’d only see in single-digit terrariums. I want to see them, Master.”
“Ah, Master Druid. Come to think of it, the fountains have increased from five to seven. I wonder if this is okay. Shouldn’t we give the world tree branches a heads-up? At this rate, the entire terrarium is going to end up filled with sap fountains. Why are you so greedy, eating all those diamonds when you can’t even digest them all? Of course, I’m not worried about your diamond situation, Master Druid… But still, if you’re not just maintaining the fountains but actually increasing them… the diamonds…”
“Seven… A single-digit terrarium usually has only one or two sap fountains, yet there are seven…”
Zephyr looked at Daisy 2 with an ecstatic expression.
Did the diamond fountains just open two more? I thought two branches in the 16th terrarium were raiding the diamond vault like cats emptying a feed bin!
No, that’s not the issue. Where’s Elder? Did Elder hear this or not?
Just as I heard a rustling sound right behind me, Elder raised one hand to cover their eyes. They heard it.
Just like the two of them, if only I could toss that thing into my diamond vault for about ten minutes, it would be swimming happily. I watched Elder, shoulders heaving as if crying, with a complicated feeling.
Come to think of it… Elder, did you know…? All those countless artificially modified dryads you can see just by turning your head. The thin streams of water keeping the virtual artifacts wrapping those dryads moist. Those too… are all diamond fountains, you know.
Maybe I didn’t notice because the streams are too thin, or because they’re overwhelmed by the energy of the big diamond fountains. If you add up the fountains of the dryads inside and outside, wouldn’t it amount to five or six large streams?
I pray you never notice for the rest of your life.
“I’ve rested enough, so I’ll help with the restoration work.”
Notos briefly expressed their intent and then left abruptly. The workers brought from the Great Bean Union seemed plenty too. Even Zephyr coaxed Daisy 2 away, but Siedling alone stood silently by my side.
After seeing everyone off, I planned to go meddle with the newcomer who willingly came to our terrarium. Of course, by myself.
The druids I’ve met so far were all such high-level players that, seeing a druid lower-level than me for the first time in a while, I wanted to show off a senior mindset, even if I’d look like an old fogey.
If they’re having any trouble, if there’s anything I can help with. But doing that in front of higher-level, veteran players would be a bit embarrassing.
But Siedling, unlike the other guild members who left abruptly to attend to their own business, seemed unwilling to leave my side. Apart from my dryads following me around, it felt like a slightly annoying sticky tag had attached itself to me. Since they wouldn’t take a hint even if I gave one, I had no choice but to approach the newcomer together.
“Hello! Welcome to the 28th Terrarium.”
“Oh! The druid I met before! Do you remember me? Back then, you gave me a bunch of emergency food and potions. Thanks to you, my journey really benefited a lot. I’m truly grateful!”
“Of course I remember. You seem much stronger than when we last met!”
“Hehe… I’m not that strong yet. Compared to you, Druid, I’m just a newborn foal. But I think I’ve gotten a bit stronger than before. My thistle can now take down a small fire about the size of a head in one hit. Hehe.”
Whether it was because she wasn’t used to compliments or she was just weak, the newbie’s earlobes turned bright red as she twisted her whole body shyly.
Unlike the others who were startled at the sight of Siedling, the newbie surprisingly didn’t pay him much attention. I guessed he hadn’t traveled far enough yet to see the wanted poster for Siedling.
That’s a relief. Well, recalling Iris’s party, which immediately went into combat mode at the sight of Siedling, or Loop and Winter, who trembled like aspen leaves… for a newbie, not fainting on the spot was probably good enough.
“So this is the 28th Terrarium. It feels more serene compared to other terrariums. I wonder if it’s okay for me to visit like this.”
I was grateful that she described this barren terrarium as serene.
“It’s still in the early stages of preparation, but feel free to rest here.”
“Then I’ll take you up on that. Ah, I’m ‘Rowella.’ By the way, Druid, what brings you here? I thought someone as strong as you would be in the later terrariums.”
“I’m J. I’m here temporarily as the administrative manager of this terrarium. I usually travel around a lot too.”
The newbie Rowella suddenly stood at attention, her whole body stiffening as her eyes widened.
“‘Jae’? Huh, I’ve heard that name somewhere. Wait… could it be? The hero of the 26th Terrarium? Right? Oh my god, I had the druid who cleared all those fires around the 26th Terrarium right in front of me and didn’t recognize you! And an administrative manager too… That’s amazing…! You have cool dryads following you and you’re a terrarium administrative manager…”
All this praise made me feel a bit awkward, not knowing how to react.
“Come on, Rowella, if you travel a lot, you could become even more amazing than me.”
“Wow… so humble! So cool! You’re my role model!”
It felt like watching a chick peeping and wiggling its beak. My face was burning up.
