Chapter 218 – Epilogue 3
Chapter 218 – Epilogue 3
Epilogue 3 (Complete)
We arrived in front of the Hunter Association building.
Reporting to the Association first after clearing a dungeon was standard procedure, so there was nothing strange about us coming here.
But the atmosphere at the Hunter Association was far from normal.
For starters, there wasn’t a single sign of life in the building. Except for one person at the entrance.
It was the Hunter Association President himself.
His disheveled hair unkempt, the Association President bent at a perfect ninety degrees to greet us.
“Welcome back! Congratulations!”
The reporters behind him buzzed at his formal bow.
“Whoa, anyone would think you did something wrong to us.”
At my words, the Association President’s face drained of color.
I almost said more but barely held back.
Cameras! Anything you do in front of cameras gets preserved forever…!
But what did it matter if it got preserved a little more?
I couldn’t hold back my inner voice and reached out my hand.
—!
Senia’s three swords, pulled from my inventory, grazed right over the Association President’s head before returning.
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
The sharp whoosh was barely audible.
Drowned out completely by the reporters’ murmurs.
Whoa
O
No one seemed to notice what I’d done, but Hunter So Yeri and Shin Jae-heon clearly had.
Yian probably saw it too, but he didn’t stop me.
No, I definitely saw it.
His statue standing behind the Association President, right at the entrance.
Hunter Yian giving that perfectly severed, motionless statue head a little nudge.
See? This guy was pissed too.
—Thud! Roll roll…
Everyone froze at the sound of the Association President’s statue head rolling across the ground.
The reporters’ gazes dropped downward.
And the Association President’s face, already staring at the ground, turned utterly pale.
The reporters held their breath, trying to piece together what was happening.
I gave the Association President a sweet smile.
Preserved? Fine by me~ Whatever~
“You should be grateful we’re such nice people.”
If it was going to be preserved anyway, might as well smile pretty!
I shrugged and nudged the statue head with my foot.
—Thump!
The bouncing statue head settled right in front of the Hunter Association entrance.
“I’m sorry! Truly, I’m so sorry!”
I ignored the Association President chasing after me, half-listening as I strode inside.
—Thud~ Thud~
Of course, kicking the statue head along the way.
The reporters seem to have caught on to the mood.
It’s obvious we’re pissed, no matter who looks.
It’s gone quiet.
Guess we look like we’ll kill everyone if we get any angrier.
—Thud~ Thud~
I rolled the statue head a couple more times in response to the chat.
Wasn’t that the case?
We’re civilized people.
If we were civilized, you wouldn’t have straight-up punched the math teacher in RP.
Hunter So Yeri immediately corrected Shin Jae-heon’s reply.
We’re people.
“Civilized” lost its “civilized” part. Shin Jae-heon followed up.
Is that the “endure” (忍) in people?
We’re just it.
Even “people” vanished. I could see Hunter Yian stifling a laugh.
By then, we’d lapped the entire Hunter Association.
And the Association President trailing us was practically crawling on all fours.
Finally, in front of the Association President’s office, he spoke to us.
“…All personnel involved in the incident have been expelled from the Hunter Association.”
The reporters who’d followed perked up at “incident.”
I glanced at them and asked.
“What kind of incident?”
“Th-that’s…”
The Association President clearly wanted to dodge the question.
Yeah, no chance~
As I waited for his answer, he finally spoke.
“…Everyone who posted articles claiming entry into the L-rank dungeon was confirmed without consulting Hunter Shin Yuri’s team has been expelled.”
The reporters erupted at that.
Hunter Yian silently raised his hand toward them, as if to say “quiet.”
The reporters froze solid.
“Not only that… Everyone who handled the related affairs has also been expelled.”
He bowed his head again.
“I sincerely apologize. We promise this won’t happen to Hunter Shin Yuri’s team—or any other team—in the future.”
With his head bowed low and no response from me, he peeked up.
Did I miss anything?
As if reading my mind, he stammered.
“Of-of course, I’ve decided to step down as Association President starting tomorrow.”
That’s when Shin Jae-heon chimed in.
“And donate it all.”
The soon-to-expire president flinched.
Hunter So Yeri approached him.
“You weren’t planning to spend your remaining days leisurely in the countryside with the bribes you’ve taken from hunters and the payoffs from sending us into that L-rank dungeon, were you?”
She asked in a cheerful tone. His face turned deathly pale.
“N-no, of course not. Naturally, it must be returned to society. Yes.”
Doesn’t sound like it? He looks like his life’s thoroughly ruined.
Hunter So Yeri said sharply.
“So you did take bribes?”
“…!”
Realizing he’d fallen into Hunter So Yeri’s leading question, the Association President flailed his limbs.
The reporters were already setting up, hammering away at their laptops.
Hm, nice view.
“That amount should go toward supporting the orphans from the Gate incidents.”
Shin Jae-heon added bluntly.
Hunter Yian glanced at him. He was already doing it, but more support never hurt.
Hunter So Yeri piled on.
“Please set up a research center for incurable and chronic diseases too. Modern medicine can’t touch some things, but the system windows might be able to cure them.”
Oh really? I widened my eyes.
Hunter So Yeri had gotten healthier since becoming a hunter too? Huh.
This was a fresh angle.
Our eyes met, and she flashed a V-sign with her index and middle fingers.
“Y-yes, understood. Of course.”
The Association President seemed oblivious to what he was even agreeing to.
We’d extracted everything worth taking.
Now the reporters would tear him apart, and he’d end up in prison amid nationwide condemnation.
—Thud!
We could munch popcorn while watching. Feeling refreshed, I kicked the statue head up.
—Whoosh!
Then Shin Jae-heon jammed his flaming Maletia sword into it.
“Argh!”
Not a single spark hit the startled, toppled Association President.
Instead, the statue head melted into the ground, unable to withstand the heat.
—Sizzle…
As the reformed statue head greeted the floor, I held out my hand.
“Great. We’re very grateful for your selfless decision. Here’s a little gift.”
Let’s go!
As we turned to leave, the reporters swarmed after us.
The Association President sat slumped, unable to even fix his crooked glasses.
I paused and looked back.
“You’ll regret not following.”
You’re gonna miss a good show.
He scrambled after us on hands and knees.
Leading the reporters and him, we headed to the rank measurers.
“N-no way.”
The Association President’s face went pale again.
Smashing those would shake the Association’s annual budget.
I knew that too.
I smiled at him and placed my hand on the rank measurer.
—Crackle!
One side crumpled instantly.
“Oops.”
I hadn’t meant to crush it?
Right on cue, each of our five team members placed a hand on one of the five measurers.
—Spark! Crunch!
Each machine let out a vicious groan.
The screens above our heads, linked to the measurers, did the same.
—Flicker! Flash!
They flickered like a busted TV.
I raised an eyebrow watching it.
No way? It wasn’t gonna blow up, right?
But thankfully, modern science prevailed.
The sparking screen steadied and displayed what we wanted.
Hunter Shin Yuri
Hunter Shin Jae-heon
Hunter So Yeri
Hunter Yian
[…]
By the time murmurs of “No way?” rippled through the reporters,
Dramatic timing: text appeared on the screen.
[SS] [SS] [SS] [SS]
“!”
Excited reporters shouted something between screams and questions as they charged.
Dozens of seconds later, a massive headline splashed across the screen opposite the Association.
(Breaking) Korea Produces World’s First SS-Rank Hunters
It took exactly five minutes for the news to sweep the globe.
As promised, we exchanged glances and smiled.
Now it finally felt real that we’d come back alive.
The S-Rank Terminally Ill Young Lady of That Dungeon Complete.
So I am aware there is side stories, but I don’t have access to them, hence why the novel status is Completed. If anyone has access to them, I’ll happily translate those side stories.
