Chapter 9 – Which Route?
Chapter 9 – Which Route?
First, let’s sort out the situation.
Kenya analyzed the current state of affairs.
Kaguya Kurokami.
My favorite heroine, the one I want to marry.
She’s actually a bit of a perv deep down—a tsundere born from being hyper-aware of the opposite sex, more than anyone else.
“Kaguya should be part of the resistance… I’ve got to find a way to join up with her.”
He’d become her ally to protect her.
After seeing how they treated her today, there was no way he could tell her to quit the resistance.
Japan wouldn’t be free until they took it back—and Kaguya’s happiness wouldn’t come without that.
“And then there’s Reina…”
Reina Silfield.
My favorite heroine, the one I want to marry.
A cool character who never once showed her dere side in the game I played, but more serious than anyone, with a deep attachment to KOG.
From today’s vibe, he could see a path to getting somewhat close with her.
Two contrasting wives (in Kenya’s delusions).
One was the daughter of Isshin, leader of Japan’s largest resistance group, Amaterasu.
The other was the daughter of Zeke Silfield, the top brass of this country’s military, known as the Military God.
Two people who should be enemies by nature.
Save one, and the other dies.
He wanted to be allies with both, but he couldn’t think of a way.
Still, he had to save them both, no matter what.
“I need to learn why the war even started, and infiltrate deep into the Earthguard Empire’s military.”
Kenya set his course.
“Talk about wearing two hats. Rise through the Earthguard Empire’s ranks while operating with the resistance, huh? Chase two rabbits and you’ll lose them both… but.”
The familiar proverb every Japanese knows popped up to warn him.
But he punched it in the face and told it to back off.
“If you don’t chase two rabbits, you won’t catch any, right?”
He had no intention of giving up on either.
His goal: a steamy double life that both would approve of.
A harem straight out of the game world, brought to life.
Lost in such delusions, his KOG device beeped with an incoming message.
Wonder who it is? He opened the messaging app.
Tomorrow, 07:00
Classroom assembly. Promise.
“Official business!? …So like Reina.”
The next day, Kenya headed to the classroom more than an hour before classes started.
He was a bit late, but it was within acceptable limits.
Sorry, overslept—I’ve always slept whenever I wanted till now.
Can’t be helped, right?
He broke into a run just before the classroom, panting like he’d rushed the whole way as he entered.
A single girl stood there.
Arms crossed, foot tapping—she was probably irritated.
Honestly, he wanted to head home, but leaving now felt even scarier.
“You’re late!”
“Sorry, I was a little delayed…”
He’d never lived on a regular schedule, so mornings were his weakness.
Kenya had fully shifted to a night owl life, bedtime around 4 a.m.
He slept at dawn like a vampire who hated sunlight.
“Sigh… At least fix your bedhead before coming. It’s obvious.”
Reina sighed at Kenya’s messy hair.
Even his fake rush had been seen through.
(To think this guy might be stronger than me…)
“Well then, shall we go?”
“Go where?”
“I’ve got permission from the instructor for independent training.”
Reina flashed her card key at him.
(Cool character on the surface, but a battle maniac at heart. Another gap, huh.)
And so the two headed to the room where they could run yesterday’s simulation battles.
“One promise. Go all out today.”
“Don’t cry, okay?”
“Wha!? Don’t underestimate me!”
Kenya laughed at Reina, who was puffing up, her character starting to waver.
“What’s so funny?!”
“Heh, you don’t care at all that you’re second-class, do you, Reina?”
“…I’ve never thought you all were inferior. But I’m not foolish enough to defy the emperor.”
Cold to everyone, equal to all.
The aloof Ice Princess hated discrimination and favoritism alike.
She had only one interest.
“Come on, let’s do this. Show me your true strength.”
Whether you were strong at KOG.
“Yeah, I’ll spar with you as many rounds as you want.”
(Alright, time to make her cry.)
And the two climbed into the simulators.
3, 2, 1… Fight!
—Which is why KOG’s operating time is about half a day before the battery needs swapping—
Today’s lecture was theory.
Learning KOG controls and basic principles.
The setting mentioned it, but hearing it again was fascinating.
Tons of unfamiliar terms, but stuff like heavy hydrogen batteries—future tech you could kinda grasp from the vibe.
Honestly, a super fun class.
If not for the piercing glare from next to him.
“So? What the hell did you do?”
Kaguya whispered to Kenya from the seat beside him.
Why’s she asking?
Because the scary silver-haired girl next to him was glaring like she wanted to kill him.
Is she done glaring? Safe now?
…Nope, still going.
Is she gonna shoot lasers from her eyes or what?
“Haha, nothing much.”
How it happened dated back a bit.
“Take that, take that! What’s wrong, Reina?!”
“Ngh! How?! What is this?!”
Kenya was pounding Reina mercilessly.
One of KOG’s many techniques: a combo attack.
A fluid chain of strikes you couldn’t easily escape.
It worked in the simulator because of that— in reality, with all the variables, it might not land.
But if you didn’t know how to break it, you’d just die.
Mikazuki Kenya
“Hahaha! My win!”
“O-One more time!!”
Tears in her eyes, Reina begged.
Buoyed by his overwhelming victory, Kenya got cocky.
Cocky enough to utterly demolish her again.
And again. And again.
With sleazy evil laughs, like a demon king mocking mortals.
Everyone’s had that experience once, right?
Playing your favorite thing with someone you like in your specialty, and not holding back at all.
Going full throttle with no mercy, pissing her off.
Normally, you’d learn from it the first time and be careful next round… but.
Unfortunately, Kenya had no such experience.
On his first go, he had his fun, ending with a satisfied grin.
Then time was up, so he suggested wrapping it.
“Phew, satisfied. Yeah, let’s call it here for today…”
She glared daggers.
Tears pooling, eyes like he murdered her family.
She had pride too—known as the empire’s top student pilot.
And he’d beaten her black and blue.
That’s how it’d been ever since.
(D-Damn, went too far—my otaku side came out.)
Showing off his skills.
Overkill on someone weaker—just playing for his own kicks.
He could’ve fought in a way that was fun and instructional.
But under that intense stress, the day’s classes ended.
“Ow, my stomach hurts…”
Exposed to stress all day, Kenya was wiped out.
The warning bell rang; he stood, forgetting his plans, ready to head home.
“Kenya-kun!” “Kenya!”
Kaguya and Reina called out at the same time.
“I have business with him. Who are you?”
Reina and Kaguya glared at each other.
Kaguya hated Earthguard citizens to begin with.
Reina… was probably just pissed, thanks to him.
“Who are you? Tell her, Kenya. I want to have lunch with you today—no babysitting duty.”
Sparks flew between Reina and Kaguya over Kenya’s head.
“What’s your deal? What’s your relationship with Kenya-kun… Don’t tell me you’re lovers?”
“Wh-Who’d date a pervert like this? Me and this guy are… What even are we?!”
(Asking me?)
The battle of the girls raged overhead.
Stop, don’t fight over me.
“Now, now, both of you.”
“Kenya-kun, you’re sparring KOG with me, right? A promise?”
“Kenya? You want to go on a d-de-date with me, right!?”
(If it’s embarrassing, don’t say it out loud.)
Whether pride or too deep to back down, Kaguya matched Reina.
She said “date” herself, face flushing beet red from shame.
“D-Date…”
Reina faltered for a split second at the word.
Kenya glanced back and forth in a panic; seeing that irritated them more, and they closed in shouting.
“Which is it?!”
“Which one is it?!”
