Chapter 327 – Construction and Vacation
Chapter 327 – Construction and Vacation
“Alright then. I’ll start the work now. Please let me know early if maintaining the spell formula becomes difficult.”
“Understood. I’ll speak up when I start getting exhausted.”
After taking a sip of tea from the canteen I brought, I nodded at Alfred’s words as he psyching himself up to begin working, then deployed a Magic Circle on the deck of the Sirius. Following the spell formula, phosphorescent light spread across the entire Sirius.
“Well, we’ll be going then.”
“Excuse us.”
Talcott and Cindy said this.
It seems Alfred will start working from the right main wing first. Talcott, Cindy, and Rosemary’s Doll will apparently divide the work as assistants.
While Alfred, Old Sigmund and the others work, my role is to alter the state of the armor plates to make them processable and keep them fixed.
Since I’ll be controlling the spell formula throughout the work and it’s expected to be a long session, I won’t participate in training today and will focus on the airship construction instead. Looking from the deck to the square, I can see everyone following Elliot’s commands and practicing touching the stone pillars.
All the Party Members plan to spend time on the deck to match my schedule. We just went to the full moon Labyrinth the other day, and since we train regularly anyway, this will serve as a break too.
“Well then, shall we get our preparations done too?”
“Yes. Let’s.”
A rolled-up carpet was taken out from Rosemary’s Magic Bag.
We all divided the tasks – spreading out the carpet and laying it on the deck, taking out and arranging tea sets, packages containing baked sweets, containers filled with sandwiches, and so on, advancing our preparations.
It had a somewhat picnic-like atmosphere. Everyone moved efficiently, and once preparations were complete, tea was poured into teacups.
“Theo, preparations are ready. Tea has been poured too, so please help yourself.”
“Ah, thank you.”
So the plan was to lay a carpet on the deck like this, sit down on it, spread out boxed lunches and sweets, then spend time reading books or playing cards.
Lavigne was also lying down at the edge of the carpet, yawning and such. Balor was riding on her back. With her eyes closed and looking comfortable, I guess she’s sunbathing. Eclair remained on the bridge.
“Well then, we shall go install ours too.”
“We’ll divide the work and finish today’s tasks early.”
“We’re heading out.”
Old Sigmund, Valentina, Charlotte and the others also started moving after drinking their tea. They floated their luggage with Levitation and entered the ship’s outer hull. Some of Rosemary’s simple Dolls will accompany them as assistants too. I’ll have Caduceus go along to check on the ship’s interior.
Old Sigmund and the others’ work involves installing the core Magic Tools. The mechanism for making the airship float consists of three Magic Tools. They support at three points and adjust output, enabling ascent and descent, and can also adjust the ship’s tilt relative to the bow, stern, port, and starboard.
The Sirius is built so that the main wings themselves generate lift, allowing it to stay afloat even if it stalls, but we plan to install this mechanism made in Silvatoria as well. This has aspects of efficiency improvement and safety measures.
The idea is that as long as stall, main wing destruction, and destruction of the three core points don’t occur simultaneously, it should remain airborne. Since it’s something that flies through the sky, we want to ensure those aspects are properly addressed.
Old Sigmund seems to have started installation at the planned core installation site located above the keel. The installation locations were determined after flight tests with models investigated where support would provide the best balance.
While watching that work through Caduceus, as my awareness went to the spell formula controlling the outer hull’s state, something suddenly occurred to me.
“Speaking of which… even when fixing the outer hull’s state, there’s no need to cover the entire thing. I could just apply the spell formula to the areas being worked on.”
“Is the spell formula not capable of limiting its range?”
Ashley tilted her head.
“Seems that way. Well, unlike the outer hull, state fixation doesn’t require that much Magical Power though…”
“That’s probably because there was never a need to fix and process something of this scale all at once, don’t you think?”
Rosemary gave a small shudder.
“Meaning?”
“Originally, each armor plate should be much smaller, right?”
“So there was no need to limit the range either.”
“In other words, the problem occurred because Theodore is exceptional.”
“To put it bluntly, I suppose so.”
Rosemary gave a wry smile at Sheila’s words.
So basically, processing something of this size wasn’t anticipated. Well… it seems like I should be able to limit the effective range to the work areas by adjusting the spell formula a bit. Since just maintaining the spell formula would leave me idle, I’ll try improving the spell formula simultaneously too. The work of installing Magic Tools on the airship won’t finish in just one day anyway.
“Still, as Theodore said, it was good we brought the carpet.”
“Because the deck being pure white is a bit dazzling, right?”
Grace agreed with Claudia’s words. Relaxing on the deck while working is nice, but since the material is white, spending long periods here isn’t great for the eyes, hence preparing the carpet. The surroundings are white too, but Marlene has summoned Shade to reduce the reflected glare.
Claudia, Marlene, Sheila, and Seraphina were enjoying card games. Irmhild was cheerfully playing her Lute as usual, so it’s quite a relaxed atmosphere.
“We’ll need to either paint the deck later or lay down planks. Having glare that’s dazzling could potentially cause problems.”
While some aspects are unavoidable due to the armor material, that’s something we’d like to address by covering it in some form or another.
…And with that, I managed to modify the spell formula used on the Sirius, narrowing the effective range for efficiency. Hmm… With this level of Magical Power consumption, maintaining it all day shouldn’t be a problem.
Eventually, the Demon-Slaying Knight Order’s training ended, and as Alfred and Old Sigmund’s work reached a stopping point, Elliot appeared on the deck coming up the gangway.
“Good work, everyone.”
“Good work, Elliot-san.”
We exchanged greetings.
“We’ve decided to go out to the hot spring town together again now. Before that, there are some decisions regarding my wedding with Camilla, so let me report.”
“Yes.”
I poured Elliot a cup of tea, offered him some sweets, and listened while he spoke.
“After consulting with His Majesty Melvin, we’ve decided to hold the wedding in the Barony of Silun. At that time, Her Highness Stephania and Her Highness Adriana have graciously agreed to attend as well.”
“Both of them?”
“Welcoming such distinguished guests is unusual for the Barony of Silun… but there’s no problem with holding the wedding itself. We’ll have to send out notifications and invitations everywhere starting now.”
…I see. By having royalty attend personally, they’re demonstrating to the people of the Barony of Silun that King Melvin supports Elliot and that there are strong ties with Silvatoria too.
Since there’s a promise to later install Elliot as lord, from King Melvin’s side, they probably want Princess Stephania to explicitly state that in the Barony of Silun. Making it clear beforehand also serves as a measure to avoid trouble.
“Well then, I’ll contact the butler from my side.”
Ashley smiled.
“Ah. Thank you, Ashley.”
“If the Sirius’s completion and trial run are finished in time, heading to the Barony of Silun with it might be good too.”
“That would be quite flashy. For protecting Her Highness Stephania and Her Highness Adriana, I think it would be perfect.”
Elliot gave a wry smile and nodded.
Considering the timing, the Sirius’s completion might end up being slightly earlier.
We also need to visit Gartner County and the Barony of Silun to increase our transferable bases. If the Sirius is completed, we can use it to travel there. As Elliot said, that would also solve the issue of protecting the two princesses.
Additionally… arriving by airship at the barony for the wedding ceremony would establish appropriate justification both internally and externally for the Demon-Slaying Knight Order Commander’s wedding. And having the trial run be for the wedding ceremony probably has good auspicious connotations and would be favorable, wouldn’t it?
