Chapter 10: Interference, the 13th Player
Chapter 10: Interference, the 13th Player
Frontline Command Camp
“What? You know about the Black Sphere Game?” Zhang Wei asked in surprise.
“This is no secret to us,” Colonel Hu said.
The Black Sphere appeared out of thin air in countries around the world several years ago, constantly initiating challenges called the 【Closed Beta Game】.
At first, no one paid it any attention, but its influence gradually grew, eventually drawing the attention of powerful nations.
These powerful nations began to suppress information, classifying the Black Sphere as top-secret intelligence.
Later, as the scale and frequency of the closed beta tests increased, powerful governments found it increasingly difficult to control the spread of information.
“Perfect timing, then. I want you to fight for me and kill all the other Players,” Zhang Wei shouted loudly.
Zhang Wei hadn’t grasped the stance between himself and the troops.
This specialized special forces unit deployed to Dragon Roar City had experience fighting against Players on multiple occasions; they were not afraid of Supernatural Power.
Because Players were not exclusive to the Black Sphere.
They had them too—there were “Players” within the troops as well, utterly loyal to the higher-ups of the Bopomo Kingdom. If Kamiyu knew such people existed, she would surely curse them as “company dogs,” spit in disgust, and walk away.
“Tell us information about the other Players, so we can better help you eliminate them,” Colonel Hu began to deceive Zhang Wei.
“No way. First, you release me. I want money, beautiful women, houses, and… and… I can’t think of anything else for now. I’ll tell you when I think of more,” Zhang Wei said loudly.
The surrounding Soldiers all clenched their fists—how many of their brothers and comrades had died at the hands of so-called Players?
Once a person gained Supernatural Power, they would go around causing destruction.
In the eyes of those who maintained order, so-called Players were nothing but rioters who, after gaining a little power, became arrogant and reckless.
“Hmph, you sure have a lot of wishes. But we are a special forces unit, not Aladdin’s lamp. Even if we were a magic lamp, you’d only get three wishes,” said a young woman with a fiery figure, dressed in black tight-fitting combat gear, her black hair tied in a high ponytail, as she gracefully entered the tent.
The surrounding Soldiers immediately saluted upon seeing her.
Zhang Wei stared at the tight-clad beauty’s ample chest, swallowing his saliva repeatedly.
His lecherous behavior disgusted the Soldier guarding him.
“My name is Xu Liwen. If you’d do me the honor, you may call me Officer Xu. I came here to…” Xu Liwen said with a narrowed-eye smile.
She was a Player loyal to the authorities—what Kamiyu would call a “company dog”—specializing in capturing and interrogating Players for the government.
“I can’t hold back anymore,” Zhang Wei directly interrupted Xu Liwen.
Zhang Wei’s Talent was 【Boundless Strength】, and his class was the common-as-dirt Warrior—a Pure Cattle-and-Horse Combo.
He had deliberately surrendered to the troops, hoping to gain military support and use their Strength to eliminate the other Players and win this game.
But unfortunately, at this time, Players and the authorities were like fire and water—utterly incompatible and irreconcilable.
For a Player to seek refuge with the military was no different from making a pact with the devil.
Zhang Wei was truly digging his own grave.
He instantly broke free from the specially-made steel cables binding him. Since he had already gained Supernatural Power, he should indulge in life to the fullest and reign supreme.
“Thank you for the gift, Officer. I said I wanted beautiful women, and you really gave me such a stunning beauty,” Zhang Wei said creepily.
Colonel Hu was momentarily stunned, then sneered coldly. He and the other soldiers stepped aside in unison, clearing the space as they walked out of the tent.
“You know what’s good for you,” Zhang Wei said arrogantly.
“Hey there, pretty girl, what was your name again?” Zhang Wei leered as he approached Xu Liwen.
Unexpectedly, Xu Liwen didn’t retreat but instead took a step forward.
“Oh ho, I like your enthusiasm,” Zhang Wei said, staring at her ample chest, drool practically dripping to the ground.
“I wonder if you’ll like it even more in a moment,” Xu Liwen said, pulling a leather whip from her waist.
She cracked it against the ground with a sharp “snap!”
The next instant.
“What the—where’s my Strength?” Zhang Wei panicked instantly. His game Interface Panel was locked, all his Skills grayed out and unusable.
“Sorry, Mr. Zhang Wei, let me reintroduce myself. My name is Xu Liwen. Like you, I am also a Black Sphere Player.
I was the final winner of the closed beta three rounds ago. My Talent is 【Nullification】. Within the range of my whip strikes, all Supernatural Power is nullified. And note—this Talent of mine has no Cooldown Time.
We have plenty of time ahead. Big sister here will take good care of you,” Xu Liwen said with a squinting smile.
Evil has its own evil to grind; if you’re cruel, someone will be crueler than you.
In this closed beta version, joining the authorities after winning the game might be a good path forward.
Xu Liwen’s Talent was perfectly suited for those in power—the ability to nullify Supernatural Power.
After nullifying it, she could also grasp the latest intelligence on the Black Sphere Game.
“What?” Zhang Wei was instantly terrified, collapsing onto the ground and trying to scramble backward.
But in the next moment, Xu Liwen lashed her whip at Zhang Wei’s back, tearing his flesh open instantly.
“Guh—wah!” Stripped of his Supernatural Power, Zhang Wei was just a weak, Normal person, utterly unable to withstand the whip’s heavy blows.
“I can’t hear you.”
Xu Liwen swung the whip again with force.
“Guh—wah—ahhh!”
“Speaking so softly and still wanting to be a Player?”
Xu Liwen put all her strength into two more lashes.
“Alright, don’t kill him. We still need to extract information from this fool,” Colonel Hu said, lifting the tent flap and stepping inside.
Xu Liwen kicked the deadweight over to Colonel Hu’s feet.
“This kind of rough work suits you best,” Xu Liwen said, then sat in a chair, crossing her legs on the table with no sense of discipline whatsoever.
Colonel Hu, feeling slighted, did his utmost to conceal his inner disgust.
While the special Troops were vigorously extracting information from the Players, on the other side, Kamiyu was nervously gathering daily necessities, preparing for a prolonged battle.
She entered the 811 convenience store and cleared out all the food, along with clothes, socks, tissues, and every other miscellaneous item—more exaggerated than a zero-dollar shopping spree.
Leaving the convenience store, she looked up at the highest point in Dragon Roar City: the Ritz-Carlton five-star hotel.
As an FPS Game Player, she was acutely aware of the importance of high ground.
In Reality, a certain country experienced a severe gun violence incident that resulted in over 50 Deaths and 800 injuries.
The perpetrator, positioned on the 32nd floor of a hotel, fired down from above, Spraying the crowd below.
And the perpetrator was just one person.
This was enough to prove the danger of holding the high ground.
Kamiyu entered the hotel. Of course, she had no ID—where would a game character get an ID? She paved her way with money, tossing a stack of cash at the front desk and smoothly securing two suites on the top floor.
She set up the place, planning to spend the remaining 60-plus hours here.
What she didn’t know was that the official Players had already entered the scene, extracting information from everyone and activating surveillance cameras to locate all targets. No matter where she stayed, it wouldn’t be safe.
