Chapter 106: Stepping onto the Altar, the Halo Appears
Chapter 106: Stepping onto the Altar, the Halo Appears
Compared to the impending Hell Tide, the truth Kamiyu now heard was even more shocking to her.
Upon learning the truth, she felt as if she had been played, a sensation so nauseating that her blood pressure spiked, making her dizzy and disoriented.
“Were my Enhancement Talent and Construction Sage Talent manipulated by you?” Kamiyu thought to herself, feeling suffocated.
She had thought herself extraordinary, a chosen one, only to realize she was merely a chess piece in someone else’s game.
What was there to be proud of? Kamiyu felt as if she had been struck by a sudden wake-up call.
But the next moment, Priest An Dao, as if seeing through Kamiyu’s thoughts, quickly explained, “Everyone’s Talents, Skills, and professions are gifts from the Heavenly Father and the Holy Mother. We are but insignificant humans, incapable of interference.”
“Then why did you say you created the Black Sphere? Using it to screen Players and assign Talents and professions?” Kamiyu asked agitatedly.
She felt like she was being toyed with by this charlatan before her.
No, she had to calm down, think carefully, and listen closely for loopholes in his words.
She took out a bottle of Mind-Steadying Potion on the spot and gulped it down, forcing herself to steady her nerves.
“Huff, huff, huff.” After several rounds of deep breaths, Kamiyu felt refreshed. The earlier restlessness, irritability, and the negative Buff of elevated blood pressure had all vanished.
She had returned to her calm, clear-headed self.
Priest An Dao politely waited for her to regain her composure before continuing, “Before the great Heavenly Father and Holy Mother, we are but insignificant humans.
One of the important reasons we established the shadow government was to Assemble the wisdom of all humanity to interpret the ancient texts and scripts found in the ruins of the Main City on the Crimson Earth.”
Kamiyu understood immediately: the “unreasonable” changes in the Real World were because these ten people were manipulating things behind the scenes.
No wonder cryptography, traceology, and archaeology had become so popular over the past decade;
and why countries had vigorously supported the gaming industry, sparing no effort to establish numerous esports schools and organize national and world-level esports competitions of all sizes.
It was all to prepare people for entering the Crimson Earth or for when the Real World was invaded by Aberrant Beast Demons.
Kamiyu couldn’t help but reflect: playing more games is beneficial for both body and mind, and it’s also advantageous for the future. Fortunately, she was skilled at gaming, which allowed her to gain a foothold in the Crimson Earth.
Priest An Dao nodded and said, “As expected of Lord Beta Tester, you are exceedingly wise.”
He continued, “We finally deciphered part of the script three years ago. By combining human technology with the faith power of the Heavenly Father and Holy Mother, we created the Player screening device—the Black Sphere.”
So the Black Sphere had an official name.
Three years ago—exactly when the “first batch” of Players entered the game.
“After all that talk, I just want to know: were my Talents manipulated by you?” Kamiyu stared into An Dao’s eyes.
“Respected Lord Beta Tester, we cannot manipulate the gifts of the Heavenly Father. We cannot control which Player receives which Talent or profession—it is all random.
The only variables we can control are the number of Players and the content of the Black Sphere Game,” Priest An Dao explained.
“If according to your speculation, Lord Beta Tester, if we could control Talents and professions, then our current situation wouldn’t be so difficult,” the priest said.
Kamiyu thought for a moment and agreed with his statement. If they truly could manipulate these things, then everyone would be superhumans now, everyone would possess extraordinary Strength, and everyone would be a Beta Tester.
“Hmph, controlling the game’s content—that’s disgusting enough,” Jack snorted heavily.
An Dao did not reply.
Kamiyu looked sharply at An Dao, then turned her gaze to the Heavenly Father Altar, saying, “You’ve said so much, but all it has done is let us know the secrets of the Crimson Earth and that there are still ten ‘deep divers’ lurking in the shadows.
It seems I haven’t gained anything practical.”
Now she only understood that the World had always been in danger, and now it was her turn to be the “tall one,” needing to step forward and hold it up, to support it.
Kamiyu asked herself, would she become the Hero who saves the World?
Was she qualified to do it? Could she even do it?
She shook her head. She herself didn’t even know if she was willing to be that Hero—it had become a question.
From beginning to end, she was just an Ordinary Player struggling to survive. She never believed, nor was she willing, to be a Savior.
Besides, there were still twelve other players with the noble Beta Tester Title—why not let them do it?
Why could they hide safely in their Sanctuaries, sleeping soundly, while she had to guard this dilapidated, leaky Main City surrounded by enemies on all sides?
For the safety of all humanity?
Could she really do it?
Kamiyu did not yet know that Lei Yao in the shadows was preparing to seize power, ally with Monsters, take advantage of the situation, and occupy this Main City.
Her efforts in defending the city would become a wedding dress for someone else, her fruits of labor stolen.
At this moment, Priest An Dao understood Kamiyu’s meaning. He said, “Respected Lord Beta Tester, please rest assured, the Heavenly Father will not mistreat any Player who defends the city.”
“Please follow me. I will give you something important.”
“Something important?” Kamiyu felt very interested.
An Dao led Kamiyu to the front of the Altar, undid the seal Protecting the Heavenly Father Altar, and allowed Kamiyu to step inside the Altar.
As soon as Kamiyu stepped within the range of the Altar, a platinum Halo immediately lit up around her, and a platinum Halo suddenly appeared above her head.
“Oh, it’s the Angel Lord.”
“The Angel Lord has descended to the mortal world. We are saved.”
The two priests beside them showed “fanatical” expressions of faith, like zealots, startling Kamiyu greatly.
Jack frowned tightly, wanting to step in to Protect Kamiyu, but was stopped by An Dao.
“What’s with them?” Kamiyu had never been worshiped before and felt quite awkward and uncomfortable.
“They are later Players, the researchers who once analyzed ancient texts together.”
“Huh? Researchers turned into superstitious people? What kind of nonsense is this?” Kamiyu questioned in her heart.
“And what is this ‘Angel Lord’ they’re talking about? Are they referring to me?” Kamiyu still didn’t know she had a Halo above her head.
And An Dao didn’t appear overly excited either.
Until Jack told her about the Halo on her head.
“Hey, what’s on your head?”
“Hmm?”
“You have a Halo above your head,” Jack said.
“Huh?” Kamiyu immediately pulled out a mirror from her spatial backpack and saw a halo-like ring hovering above her pink hair, with three cross-shaped stars orbiting around it.
“Wow, that’s so cool! Such a beautiful skin effect,” Kamiyu exclaimed in delight.
Just as she reached out to touch the halo, An Dao quickly stopped her: “Your Grace, you must not touch it.”
