Chapter 109: Not to Be Trusted
Chapter 109: Not to Be Trusted
The Heavenly Father Altar Fragment, an octahedral blue crystal, floated through the air. Kamiyu caught it with her bare hands, feeling a cool, icy sensation. The crystal seemed to breathe, as if it were alive.
Heavenly Father Inarius had given her the reward in advance—a Main City. However, to claim this city, she first needed to complete two prerequisite tasks.
Three days later, during the Hell Tide, she would have to slaughter enemies relentlessly, filling this crystal with the hatred of Aberrant Beast Demons to officially activate this “Key.”
Then, she would head to Seriga, capture this Main City occupied by Aberrant Beast Demons, and insert the activated “Key” into the ruins of the Heavenly Father Altar in Seriga.
This way, Main City Seriga would completely belong to her.
She would own a resource city capable of infinitely producing high-level materials. But for now, she had to keep this news under wraps.
What if someone snatched away the octahedral blue crystal? This item wasn’t bound to her. Inarius had told her that this altar fragment was a gift from the Heavenly Father, usable by anyone.
Kamiyu carefully stored the altar fragment away.
“Finally, I want to ask, how do I use this halo above my head? Is it just for show?” Kamiyu was a pragmatist.
If something didn’t benefit her, she’d rather discard or hide it. This halo was far too conspicuous.
Inarius pondered for a moment before saying meaningfully, “Humans cannot use it.”
“Huh? What does that mean? Don’t beat around the bush.” Kamiyu widened her eyes.
Inarius said, “Time is running short. I sense a filthy tide is about to sweep over. Hurry and prepare, lest you not live to see Seriga rebuilt.”
With that, the surrounding holy light faded, and Inarius’s figure began to vanish.
“Hey, wait, I have other questions for you.” Kamiyu raised her hand urgently.
A burst of white light suddenly appeared, covering everything. The blinding glare forced Kamiyu to close her eyes.
The next second.
She opened her eyes.
“No way, is this for real? Did I really fall for some trick of the X-Dao?” Kamiyu widened her eyes, finding herself at the entrance of the Holy Light Cathedral.
Jack was right behind her. Kamiyu immediately checked the System clock and discovered the time had reverted to when she had entered the cathedral.
“What are you talking about?” Jack asked.
“Did you just enter the Holy Light Cathedral?” she asked.
“Have you been grinding dungeons too much? Are you hallucinating from lack of rest?” Jack asked with concern.
“No way, could it really be a hallucination?” Kamiyu asked herself.
She turned back to inspect her inventory space.
“Oh no.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, it’s nothing.” Kamiyu covered up.
This wasn’t a hallucination. The Heavenly Father Altar Fragment, that blue octahedral crystal, lay peacefully in her inventory space.
“Do I have a halo on my head? Like the kind angels have?” Kamiyu continued asking.
“Are you still half-asleep? What halo?” Jack even reached out to touch her head.
Kamiyu brushed his hand away and said, “Come with me inside.”
“Weren’t we already going in?” Jack asked.
She wondered if there were three people inside, with a priest named An Dao.
She opened the door and widened her eyes—there really were three priests monitoring the corruption level of the Heavenly Father Altar.
The following conversation was exactly the same as before, and the elder priest inside was indeed named An Dao.
But, but.
What made Kamiyu extremely wary was that this time, An Dao did not tell her the truth about the First Batch of Players, the two Main Cities, the shadow government, or who created the Black Sphere.
An Dao concealed the fact that he was a Max Level 50 Player.
Why he hid the truth, Kamiyu did not know, and she didn’t want to delve deeper into it now.
What if she provoked new trouble? She already had enough problems as it was.
Kamiyu thought to herself, If you hide things, I’ll hide things too. I just won’t mention that I have fragments of the Heavenly Father Altar or that I’m the one chosen by the Heavenly Father.
After learning about the arrival time of the Hell Tide and what Items could be exchanged, Kamiyu left the Holy Light Cathedral.
Stepping out of the Holy Light Cathedral.
Kamiyu thought, It seems everything that happened inside was real, except that Heavenly Father Inarius manipulated time and space.
The reason Inarius expended such great divine power to do this was to conceal the fragments of the Heavenly Father Altar on her.
Even the Heavenly Father’s most devout followers were kept in the dark.
Judging from An Dao’s behavior earlier, so-called Holy Light Church followers were not to be trusted.
It seemed that even after arriving on the Crimson Earth, even with the invasion of Aberrant Beast Demons imminent, internal strife and deceit among humans would never cease.
She worried whether she could successfully collect enough fragments and whether she could successfully rebuild Seriga.
Kamiyu sighed, looked up at Jack, and asked anxiously, “Can I trust you?”
Jack lowered his head and looked seriously at Kamiyu, saying in a deep voice, “I would even die for you. Isn’t that worthy of your trust?”
His words reminded Kamiyu of that day in Dragon Roar City, when Jack gave up his own chance of survival and used his last ounce of strength to save her.
That’s right, aside from herself, he was the most trustworthy person.
Since Heavenly Father Inarius had concealed the information about the Altar fragments, her plan to hide her identity had to continue.
It wasn’t yet time to reveal her identity. There were still many enemies—right behind her in the church was a Level 50 Old Monster. What did that Level 30 Lei Yao even matter?
Wait, no—she was only Level 17. What did she even matter?
And her identity was already known by a Level 50 Old Monster. Troublesome, extremely troublesome.
“No, I can’t win. Let’s head back to the Guild Manor first,” Kamiyu whispered.
Jack nodded, immediately activated all his Defense Skills, and remained fully alert while escorting Kamiyu back to the Guild Manor.
A woman’s intuition really wasn’t wrong.
Just as Kamiyu was quickly leaving, from the tower window of the Holy Light Cathedral.
The priest An Dao, who had just been wearing a benevolent expression, now revealed a gloomy and cunning look.
“How did she see through me?” An Dao watched Kamiyu’s retreating figure.
“Lord An Dao, should we continue our agreement with the Beta Tester Lei Yao? Do we need to eliminate this new Beta Tester in advance?” a subordinate priest asked.
So, there was a traitor!
The reason Lei Yao was so confident about taking over Main City Kaijistan was because there was a traitor.
Lei Yao’s plan was to collude with Aberrant Beast Demons on the outside, while having Holy Light Church followers act as inside agents.
When the time came, they would stab all the city guards in the Main City and deliver a blow to Kamiyu.
However, they seemed to have misunderstood. Kamiyu knew nothing of these dirty dealings; she only knew about the First Batch of Players, the two Main Cities, the shadow government, and who created the Black Sphere.
