Chapter 12: Contact
Chapter 12: Contact
Kamiyu lay prone on the table, surveying the entirety of Dragon Roar City through her scope.
“Dead quiet, not a soul in sight. Could they be even more patient than I am?” Kamiyu muttered.
She reminded herself, “Stay calm, don’t get impatient. With this Talent and profession, I’m a long-range assassin—specializing in hiding in the shadows and firing covert shots.”
“This playstyle suits me best right now.”
Meanwhile, inside the subway station, special troops were engaged in intense firefights with Mohawk.
“Rat-a-tat-tat!” Gunfire erupted.
Dozens of guns fired relentlessly at Mohawk.
The special troops held nothing back, unleashing maximum firepower against the enemy before them.
However, Mohawk was currently the most lethal and defensively powerful among the 11 Players—a Dungeon Boss-level Player with both offensive and defensive capabilities.
How could mere humans contend with such a monster?
“Swish, swish, swish!”
In an instant, sharp blades flashed, cutting down another row of special forces combatants.
“Insects,” growled Mohawk, his entire body now encased in exoskeletal blades, his head transformed into a terrifying skull.
After having his head blown off by Kamiyu’s Signature Sniper, he could no longer revert to his original form and was forced to remain in this grotesque state.
“Gah!”
“Dammit!”
“Bullets are useless against this monster! Call Captain Xu for reinforcements immediately!”
“Lure this monster to the surface first. We have Infantry Fighting Vehicles up there and can deploy heavy firepower like rocket launchers,” the commander ordered over the radio.
On the surface, at the hotel.
“Huh? There are Infantry Fighting Vehicles moving on the road,” Kamiyu observed through her sniper scope.
“One, two, three, four, five—so many of them. And there are helicopters circling overhead too. Deploying this much heavy firepower all at once—there must be Players over there.” Kamiyu’s scope tracked the movement of the Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
She noticed a speeding jeep joining the convoy from east to west.
Shifting her gaze to the main street.
“Huh? Why is there no one on the streets?”
Mohawk had been lured to the surface. Unaware of the curfew outside, he found no pedestrians—his plan to kill more innocent people to replenish his Life had failed.
His Mimicry Talent had a one-second weakness period every thirty seconds. If he “died” during that one second, he would lose one life.
With no one on the streets, he could only grow more vicious and brutal in slaughtering the special forces members.
Only by killing them could he replenish the Life he had lost. This “life-for-life” playstyle, combined with his “immortal body,” instilled fear even in the well-trained troops.
A jeep stopped fifty meters away from Mohawk.
“Everyone, step aside. Let me deal with this little mantis,” declared Xu Liwen confidently as she stepped out of the vehicle, clad in a black bodysuit and knee-high patent leather boots.
“Hah? You’re calling me a mantis?” Mohawk tilted his head.
“You don’t even have fingers—both your hands have turned into blades. If that’s not a mantis, what is? I could spray you dead with insecticide,” Xu Liwen sneered.
“And who are you?” Mohawk eyed the woman dressed head-to-toe in letter-patterned attire warily.
“That’s none of your business.”
Faced with provocation, Mohawk remained unmoved, instead raising his twin blades and charging up for an attack.
Xu Liwen knew this was the guy with the Mimicry Talent mentioned in Zhang Wei’s intel, but the intel hadn’t explained why he couldn’t die.
Based on past data, Players only possessed Supernatural Power, but their Defense Power was the same as ordinary people. The vast majority were still flesh and blood. Such an unkillable Player was quite rare, and this was now quite troublesome.
Indeed, Mohawk’s Executioner skill—gaining a life for every kill—in other villainous, unorthodox novels, would be a final Dungeon Boss-level enemy. If placed later in the story, after killing tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of people, how could the Protagonist possibly kill him?
And now, the Black Sphere had placed this Talent and skill on the same person. If Mohawk ultimately won the game, and later inherited the Talent and skill during the Open Beta, the world would gain another demon.
Faced with an immortal Player, even the usually arrogant and overconfident Xu Liwen was now watching him warily. Her earlier provocation had been to test his temperament.
Unfortunately, he didn’t fall for the provocation and instead became even more alert.
Troublesome. Very troublesome.
Since he didn’t take the bait, she could only force a confrontation.
Xu Liwen made a hand signal, telling everyone to prepare for battle.
The “thud-thud-thud, thud-thud-thud” sound of a machine cannon rang out.
The Infantry Fighting Vehicle’s machine cannon locked onto Mohawk, providing cover for Xu Liwen.
Xu Liwen charged forward, taking out the whip, the Executioner game character’s tool.
Her Talent was: within the striking range of her whip, all Players’ skills and Talents were nullified.
In theory, this was also a rather unsolvable Talent, capable of turning Players back into ordinary people.
However, her Talent wasn’t like an eraser that could erase Supernatural Power from the outside. She also needed to take the risk of getting dangerously close, approaching the other Player, before she could begin the nullification.
Mohawk aimed at Xu Liwen and forcefully swung his blades.
With a “swish~” sound.
Xu Liwen lashed out her whip, which wrapped around the two blades. She pulled hard, nearly causing Mohawk to stumble.
Seizing the moment he was off-balance, Xu Liwen didn’t stop her assault. She activated the Executioner skill, Sanction: when using bladed equipment, Attack Power is multiplied by 5 times. Effect lasts 10 seconds. Cooldown Time 5 minutes.
Xu Liwen drew throwing darts from behind her and hurled them at Mohawk, hitting him squarely in the face.
“Thud, thud, thud, thud.”
Four darts pierced Mohawk’s eyes, nose, and mouth. Blood immediately gushed out, and he froze in place.
The team members cheered.
“Well done!”
“Captain Xu is amazing!”
Xu Liwen sneered. I originally thought you were pretty tough, so I cautiously used my skill. Seems you’re nothing special after all.
The damage from a Player’s skill was far greater than ordinary human technology. The power of her four darts, after the Attack Power was multiplied by 5, was comparable to a Tank’s smoothbore cannon.
Kamiyu moved away from the sniper scope, shook her head, and said gravely, “The timing is wrong.”
She thought, who is this person anyway? Could it be that the authorities also have Players?
I originally thought only ordinary people would intervene. I didn’t expect there to be Players outside the game. This just got a lot more interesting.
Back at the battle scene.
The four throwing darts were “swallowed” into Mohawk’s head, then emitted an unpleasant sound of metal tearing.
Mohawk chewed the four throwing darts into an iron ball and spat it out.
The people around were frozen in fear, and Xu Liwen frowned as she looked at him.
“An official Player? I thought you’d be more impressive, but it seems you’re nothing special.”
“Now I can go on a killing spree.”
“Hehehe, hahahaha.” Mohawk let out a sinister, maniacal laugh.
